For almost 35 years, Marvel lovers have had a different way of indulging their fandom than just voraciously reading the comics. In 1990, Impel released a set of licensed collectible cards featuring characters, battles, and key moments from throughout Marvel history (up to that point). Since then, not a year has gone by without more Marvel cards-some with exclusive art, some with special treatments like foiling, stamping, exclusive numbering, and holograms, and some with…questionable…art direction.
But fans have always snapped them up. And now, with the secondary market hotter than it has been in years, we present, in partnership with eBay, a brief history of some of the highest highs of Marvel collectible cards-both financially and artistically-and some of the lowest lows.

Thanks for this video. Brought back so many memories. My obsession with this hobby was the 1991 Impel set.
This was so well done. I’m honored to be a part of it. 😊
I went back and bought a bunch of the full X-Men sets about ten years ago. They're in six binders, and I pull them out when I want a nostalgic bump.
I just found my old comics from the late 80s and 90s, and some had unopened fleer Ultra cards in them.
The Marvel Impel cards were the first I loved but the Comic Images set from 87' was the first
Loved the few cards I had as a kid and luckily pieced together a master set (series 1-5, all foils, holograms etc) a few years ago before the covid price spike. Nearly sold it after, but glad I didn't.
Great content!
Awesome video
I love how the marvel impel cards were considered junk for the longest time. You could easily get sealed series 1, 2, and 3 boxes for under $100. I even remember people doing buy 1 get 1s, essentially giving them away. I guess everything comes around eventually. Moral of the story, don't ever throw anything out 😅
This is 90's and up ! My books are from the late 70's and mostly 80's
I just found my binders from 90 & 91.. excellent condition...only question could be borderlines untouched and in the sleeves since 92. Have full set of both years.... Do I have anything..?????. Or just good memories????
Most of the information in this video is incorrect. 90 MU was not the first set
