Ultra Powerful South Korean K9 Thunder Artillery Mass Live Fire vs Mountain
Вставка

- This truly awesome and impressive artillery live fire video shows a total of 18 ultra powerful South Korean K9 Thunder Self Propelled Artillery howitzers in action during a mass live fire exercise.
The video features the simultaneous firing of the artillery and the impacts on a mountain aswell.
The K9 Thunder is a South Korean self-propelled 155 mm howitzer designed and developed by the Agency for Defense Development and Samsung Aerospace Industries for the Republic of Korea Armed Forces, and is now manufactured by Hanwha Defense.
K9 howitzers operate in groups with the K10 automatic ammunition resupply vehicle variant. The entire K9 fleet operated by the ROK Armed Forces is now undergoing upgrades to K9A1 standard, and a further development of a K9A2 variant is in process.
In 1980s, the ROK Armed Forces came in need of new artillery system to contest North Korean equipment. The armed forces operated M107 self-propelled gun and K55 self-propelled howitzer; however, they had shorter firing range compared to M-1978 Koksan and were outnumbered by various North Korean artillery. With the success of designing and manufacturing KH-178 and KH-179 towed artillery, and experience gained by license producing K55 (KM109A2), the Ministry of Defense ordered to develop new system that has longer firing range, faster firing rate, and high mobility. The development started in 1989 and was led by the Agency for Defense Development (ADD) and Samsung Aerospace Industries (now Hanwha Defense).
The ADD first offered upgrades on existing K55, inspired by the United States' M109 Howitzer Improvement Program (HIP), but was rejected by the Republic of Korea Army. As a result, the ADD determined to create new weapon system and worked on conceptual model till 1991. Early concept requested by the military includes river crossing capability and installation of M61 Vulcan as anti-air weapon, which were removed due to unnecessity for such long-range weapon.
In 1992, the Ground System Division of United Defense LP (now BAE Systems Land and Armaments) invited members of the ADD for its first M109A6 Paladin release ceremony and expressed interest in participating Korea's self-propelled howitzer program by upgrading K55 to Paladin standard, which was rejected by South Korea.
By late 1990s, internal review showed localization of 107 out of 235 (45.5%) technologies required to build the artillery. After the review, South Korea decided to continue developing domestic main system, main gun, 155 mm ammunition, fire control system, structure, and autoloader. On the other hand, engine, transmission, and INS were chosen to be imported from foreign partners, and license produce hydropneumatic suspension to boost up localization by 70%. The engineers faced biggest challenge on designing main gun and suspension due to lack of experience; while licensing the K55, its main gun was brought as finished product and suspension was produced under knowledge base from the United States.
The turret servo electrohydraulic system is a derive from that of K1 MBT. Automatic fire control system enabled rapid aiming, faster shooting, and improvement to accuracy.
Originally, Air-Log hydropneumatic suspension, which was being used for British AS-90, was chosen for test for license produce, but failed to absorb shock from much bigger 52 caliber gun. Later, South Korea developed domestic hydropneumatic suspension and sold to Britain.
The contract for the K9 artillery system was awarded to Samsung Aerospace Industries on 22 December 1998. The first vehicle was rolled out on 17 December 1999, and was fielded to the Republic of Korea Marine Corps in Yeonpyeongdo.

Artillery has a kind of beauty to it. You just don't want to be on the receiving end.
I have personal experience not being on the receiving end of artillery, and I do like it here.
I grew up in a small town in the border of Ethiopia-Somalia-Kenya...there’s a time alshabab took control of it and we were shelled by government forces.I would never wish anyone to experience what we went through that night. My grandfather taught me that “If you hear the whistle sound of a motar,it means you survive to die another day”

Wow..... the body is so stable when it's firing...
If there was one battalion guarding that mountain, and the shells fell like that at the same time... just thinking about it is terrifying.
You will be in pieces before you feel anything
Don’t have to theorize about it. It happened and people survived it to tell about it. During Sino-Vietnamese border skirmish, there was a constant back and forth over a hill top. Vietnamese built very sturdy trenches and fortifications while the Chinese bombarded that hill nonstop using several hundred artillery pieces for over a week. Each square meter of that hill received roughly 3 tons of TNT and the entire hill was reduced by about a meter in height.
Vietnamese casualty rates was 96% and when the Chinese pushed up, no whole pieces of corps can be found. After that, both sides realized that fixed fortifications won’t work and constructed a series of smaller trench networks for quick retreat and regrouping.
That will be the Korean War looks like.
With the AI-assisted upgrades,
the warfare will be brutal...
and amazingly fast.
@@sina697alphaI agree. For example, the Korea Combat Training Center (KCTC) training in Korea indirectly allows soldiers to experience that individuals die easily on the battlefield, even if they are not in practice. The North Korean military's role unit uses a North Korean-style tactic to build an anti-tank defense line consisting of infantry in the valley, but once shelled, the damage will be serious.
There are close to 3,000 of these self-propelled guns in Korea and they are the newest and getting stronger.

The development of defense weapons in the Republic of Korea has been accomplished for 70 years in preparation for a war with North Korea, and in the future, Korea will continue to develop advanced weapons at a rapid pace.
The K-9 Vajra will be deployed along the worlds largest heavily fortified border that incredibly tight cone of impact will be devastating. I can imagine the combination of massed K-9 155mm rounds and MLRS hammering into the ground.
100 howitzers are already deployed along the LAC by Feb 2021.The Indian army will purchase another 200 K-9 Vajra from Larsen and Toubro.
K-9 Vajra made under a license from ROK at a plant in Western India. That is on top of the M-777 and a gun called ATAGS developed by DRDO.

Temperatures in Korea occur from 40 degrees Celsius to minus 40 degrees Celsius.
And 70% of the country is covered with mountains.
In winter, it is very cold and very dry.
In summer, the temperature rises to 40 degrees Celsius and the humidity remains above 90%. It has the sea on three sides and even has salinity.
It's the best condition to test weapons.
We call that God's country.
Exactly.
In real engagement, lot of unexpected climate variables make army going hell.
Weapons made in countries with 4 distinct seasons and large annual temperature or humidity intervals have strengths in that regard.
Lol during the Korean War, the US fought battles in the heat of Daegu in July-August, where it is nicknamed "Daefrica" these days b/c of how hot it gets in the summer.
And in the winter the GIs fought in the Gaema Plateau, where it gets as cold as Siberia in the winter.

It's not because the k9 is heavy. It's because it adopts a hydraulic suspension system. In addition to the k9 self-propelled artillery, most of the ground mechanization equipment made by Korea, such as the k2 tank and the AS21, adopted the hydraulic suspension system. As a result, the ride comfort is very comfortable even with armored equipment.
They use powder patches, so soldier can adjust how much powder to use. Maybe they used really mild charge for demonstration.

I don't get it, why you would still need these when you have aircraft to deliver bombs on target where ever. Even though they're mobile, I just see them as a slow moving target with a giant bullseye slapped to its back.
I'm sure there is a reason and I'm open to being educated on the topic.
@@silentblackhole Korea's air defense network is one of the world's most dense places. In addition, the mobile surface-to-air defense system is operated very delicately at high and medium altitude and low altitude. Take a look at Russia's ongoing invasion of Ukraine.
Even if it is dropped with a fighter or the air defense net is neutralized, the occupation is completed only when ground forces enter. In addition, there is a clear limit to fighting only with missiles and air force in actual war.
As you may not know, the Korean military does not exist only for defense. If a war breaks out in Korea, it will strike all the core origins of the perpetrator, and the invading state will lose its function as a state. And the South Korean military is preparing to attack with fast mobility at the forefront. In short, the Korean military is a unit in preparation for attack.
On the surface, South Korea seems to exist only for defense, but in fact, the basic strategy hidden in it is an attack-oriented army called the "poison attack strategy." Attacking South Korea means that the invading country also loses its national function. In other words, the Korean military is an army specialized in attacks. This means that it is not a country where people sit still and run.
Why do you need infantry when you have special forces? It's such a shortsighted idea as to say.
