A doomed man speaking to all of us, probably the first and last time any of us will hear him.

A man who tried to become a would-be military dictator at a time when a more ruthless man did it much better. Schleicher was like Man Utd to Liverpool FC.

Indeed a tragic political character, in Summer of 1934 he was murdered, most probably authorised by Hitler himself, in the "Nacht der langen Messer"( night of the long knives, also known as "Röhm-Putsch"). This was the time when Hitler rid himself of bis major political opponents, of which he knew that they could be become dangerous to bis political career. Hitler still knew Schleicher since the early twenties, and despised him deeply. Interesting little film clip to actually see and hear him, very rare material. Very little known in Germany even today.

Tragic? He was a horrible man, he wanted to be a fascist dictator but Hitler outmaneuvered him. He is responsable for creating the militaristic and repressive system which Hitler used after 1933.

@@victorfergn Nonsense, that started _before_ Schleicher, when Bruning came to power in 1930. He was the first Chancellor to rule with emergency powers, invested by Hindenburg.

@@septimiusseverus343 Nonsense my ass, what you said after the comma is right but saying what I said is nonsense is beyond exaggeration. Schleicher was a key player in creating the militaristic sceneario in the early 30's, he literally established a link between the military and the politicians (his influence was larger than his tenure as chancellor)
We could say Hindenburg's role was way more relevant. Also the Freikorps and Ebert's.

@@victorfergn....Okay, I know that, no need to get aggro, I was merely stating the fact that Schleicher _alone_ did not kick start the trend towards authoritarianism.

A von Papen lo sustituyó el general Kurt von Schleicher. Consiguió formar, el 2 de diciembre de 1932, un gobierno minoritario, apoyándose en partidos pequeños. Schleicher tuvo que dimitir el 28 de enero de 1933.
