- Explanation of why Hitler was made Chancellor in 1933. Goes through all the Von Papen and Von Schleicher events in sequence. Focus questions:
1. Explain the events that led to Hitler becoming Chancellor.
2. Evaluate the significance of the events.
3. Explain why Hitler's power was still limited.

Hi Ben, possibly covered by you in other places, but Hitlers rise can be strongly attributed to the activities of Kurt Eisner the (Jewish) man who a) Orchestrated a massive strike in the munitions factories in 1918 (b4 the end of the war) this is the (not mythical) 'stab in the back'... then, jailed for treason after the war, and then given amnesty, b) he immediately agitated German workers for the "Bavarian SOVIET Socialist republic" uprising declaring himself it's president and kicked out the royal family. (Munich)... needless to say, this did not go down well with Germans in Munich, having a significant slice of their nation carved off and handed to the Russian Communists, (effectively) and explains why Hitlers support was so dynamic from there.
The Spartacist rebellion is also crucial to understand the rise of A.H. Your sequential analysis is smack on from my reading and your well detailed drawing to be commended.
For me...the 'take away' point from all of this history, is that IF.. a party running on 'bad' ideas can roar up the charts from 2% in 1928 ish, to 37% a few years later.... how much more can a dynamic movement with GOOD ideas do even better. Your point about the reluctance of the Middle Class to support Hitler is affirmation of my point I believe. You can drive and inspire the working classes with simple slogans "Jobs" etc, but the middle classes are more astute. Support does not come from being intimidated, it comes from belief that you are hearing a solution to national problems and that the person espousing those solutions can get the job done.

My history professor (University of Wisconsin) is now passed away, but he was the grandson of the Jewish man who ran the largest Berlin Newspaper in the 20s... You'd think he'd be very biased against a balanced narrative of this period, or that he would not be able to see things objectively, but not only does he do this, he also amazed me with some of the stunning truths of history that most snowflakes today could not handle. He explains "I tell my sophomore students that I am out to destroy them.. I judge the success of my course by the number of suicides at the end of it!!!!"....I'm sure he was not serious, but the point is well made ....that much in history is written by winners, not losers and winners seldom want the real truth to come out. His name is George Mosse, and if you find his lectures become available, they are very much worth listening to from the enlightenment to the 19th century. His treatment of Luther and Calvin are also remarkable for their sympathetic objectivity... and Luther became a raging anti semite toward the end of his life.
I'm just genuinely curious about this so thank you for making this!

I live in South Australia so it's called 'SACE/South Australian Certificate of Education' so yeah, pretty much the same. I'm studying stage 1 Modern History so year/grade 11 and We're focusing on WW2 for the semester (one semester subject unfortunately, I want to do it all year haha), Had the exam today and I think I did pretty well, might get a B? I forgot a few of the exact dates -0- We've just finished the background information-political issues etc. for it and now we're getting into the gruesome stuff :) Can't wait heh :') I hope to do History next year too, but will probably have to do that online as well as Psychology :) Woo! Thank you for posting this. I saw that you posted this in May of last year. I have been following the (American) presidential race over this past year and have heard people say that they think there are similarities between Trump and Hitler. Do you feel there are similarities? And if so, do you think that if Trump were to become President, that he too would feel "chained by Democracy"? Again, thank you for posting this and your other videos. Remembering history and at least SOME of the nuances that came with it show how it can tend to repeat itself. (An aside: I do not consider myself a learned history person. Just someone who loves to discuss it and learn more as I go along in life.)

My book said that Hindenburg helped Hitler, by giving him economical help and letting him use his media.. I find it weird that he then doesn't want Hitler as chancellor, but I suppose that's a thing, and that's the difference. Great helper!

It’s a good start but they are many errors
In the July 1932 elections, nazis became the largest party for the first time because they took efforts to exclude other parties and an official ban on the SA was lifted, but even with these tactics they still lacked an overall majority.
Typically there had been no majority but a coalition of parties together that formed a majority with SPD, Zentrum parties. The "Weimar coalition" held entact within Prussia until von Papen was installed as commissioner there in 1932. So it wasnt just a question of the reischtag for the nazis, it was also Prussia that had opposing coalitions in their way.
Neither the Nazi Party nor Hindenburg had a governing majority, and the other parties refused to co-operate, meaning
no coalition government with a majority could be formed.
Is it correct to say that under these circumstances, Hitler was "by Weimar rule" entitled to become Chancellor after the election in July, 1932? (and when the country was being run by emergency decree by Hindenburg isn't it more accurate that the rules effectively allowed Hindenburg to appoint anyone he wanted?)

Are we meant to talk about Hitler's strengths in public speech, sectorial appeal, Nazi gualtiers / Weimar weaknesses in proportional representation as weak coalitions had to be formed in order to gain majority and decisions were made very slowly / the wall street crash of 1929 and how anger with economic crisis mad Weimar look weak so lead to increased voting of extremist parties?
