I literally weep every time I remember that his gift is gone with him.... the world is a little colder, more sterile without Eddie's beautiful spirit and glorious smile😥 His music lives on but the light has gone out. Eddie has left the building...
In his youth he could be high and drunk and still play. Then 2004 happened but once he got clean he was back at his very best ever. So glad Wolf got to be on stage with him when he reclaimed his GOAT crown
To add a bit of commentary, as someone with substance abuse issues. Obsessive practice can be one of the things that fills that void that every alcoholic\addict knows too well. I'm not going to pretend like I got sober and stayed sober, but I can deeply relate to the idea of taking music to the next level, a lot of it has to do with having no other outlet to fill said void besides musical intervention.
I was at this show on Wolf’s side of the stage. When Ed sat down, two cops made their way down my isle. I thought the saw me smoking pot. They went right on by to the front, pulled out their phones and both video recorded the entire solo. Cops bootlegging a show? I’d never seen anything like this ever at any concert. I guess when it comes to Edward, even the police will break the rules. RIP EVH.
Hahaha cool story. Cops know concerts are filled with pot though; it ain’tworth it for them to waste time dealing with you, they’re along for the ride too!
I think they gave up on the idea of stopping people from recording live shows when phones that are also video cameras became commonplace. Good to hear that people were still smoking pot at shows in 2012 though. The last time I openly smoked pot at a concert was when I went to AC,/DC in, hell I guess it must have been 97-98 ? Whenever they had the Ballbreaker album. Things sure have gotten super lame in the last twenty years
He was always playing amazing solo with smiling. And his sound always made the audience smiling...we missed him but when we hear his solo ,we are smiling again. None could play like him.

I lost touch with EVH’s career over the years with the lineups and his drinking but I’m glad this came into my feed. This is as good as the old days. It’s great that he straightened up in these later years. RIP OH GREAT ONE
Man, Ed came back better than ever! So great to see and hear him killing it after all he and the band had been through! This is absolutely fantastic for the Van Halen Legacy in its last years! And we should give a hats off to the rest of the band, Dave did a commendable job because, we all know what happens to our vocal chords as we age! Ed's son kicked ass and should be commended also and praised... he's top notch like his father! RIP Eddy!

I believe Ozzy was talking about how Van Halen started* all that right-hand finger tapping, shredding - shift in the metal sound. He opened that door and MILLIONS of players followed suit. Ozzy wasn't saying he was the best at it. There were others who followed and kept taking it to new levels. I think Jason Becker would've probably been the best shredder had he not contracted MS. Looking at this vid, and hearing the performance, one thing that sticks in my mind is just how much Edward Van Halen loved the guitar, and how much he devoted to refining it -- not just his techniques, but the guitar he's playing is something he had a hand in designing. He truly loved playing the instrument -- and it shows. It's like he's in his own world, of happiness. And the sounds.... I still thought he'd out live me, just as I thought Chris Cornell would.... It sucks, but we still have their music.
