He's not playing like he's the GOAT. Eddie is humble, he's smiling the whole time and he is taking you on a life journey of him fucking around, learning stuff, developing new techniques and his tour of discovery and enjoyment in playing his instruments. His gift was not only his ability, it is that he could do that for 20 minutes straight on a stage by himself and make every second of it enjoyable to people who know nothing about music - to career musicians alike. That's why he is the GOAT.
How can Eddie be less than the #1 guitar player in the world? Others were revolutionary, yes, but my god, listen to him play...no body else has done this...
And there you have it ladies and gentlemen, the greatest guitarist ever, bar none, no questions asked, no debate, period! Miss you Eddie.
Sammy Hagar says is Joe Satriani though... (love Satriani, but Eddie is my fav 100%)
@@stefansantanaSammy Hagar says it is Eddie Van Halen. I have heard him say it a million times in concert at the shows! However your right! Sammy has said that about Joe S also! Joe S was great with Chickenfoot but he sounded more like a studio musician while playing in that band! I wanted to hear the great Joe Satriani playing with Sammy's lead vocals over him. That would have been Epic!
@@stefansantana Satriani is a great technician. He lacks the musicality that EVH had in spades. JS does lots of tricks. Eddie is locked and loaded and takes you for a ride. No comparing the 2. Very different animals. Want to hear someone play fast-listen to Malmsteen but if you want fast that's like a force of nature, listen to Shawn Lane.(RIP)
@@riffs246 I wholeheartedly agree with you. I feel the same way about Vai and Malmsteen. While they're great technicians, they don't have the musicality that EVH has. Well put.
That smile! Amongst the unbelievable talent, another one of his trademarks!
I was fortunate 2 see him and the old Van,Halen .it was one hell of a show
I've been playing nearly every day for nearly 53 years and I can't even imagine doing that. Thanks Eddie for you greatness
The only man to harness noise as a weapon.
No one else on earth can play like Mr.Eddy! He will always be missed, but his music lives on. I was one of the lucky ones, that the 80s was my teen years and when, Van Halen was brand new on cassette tape, pioneer super tuner 3, and my 73 Chevy was my dream come true! R. I.P. Eddy we are so ever great full for U !!!!!!and the Van Halen’s. Rock on Alex!!!!
The best guitar player and the best band. I am so grateful to have grown up listening to this band, so many great times.
His kind heart and his smile...tears are trying to fill my eyes but I fight it....I don't even know why I tear up...but to think only seven years ago this video was made...❤️🙏 Miss you Eddie.
I know why. We loved him. He was the only one of him this world will ever see.
I was thinking the same thing. His smile shows how much he loved performing for the crowd. He fed off the crowd's appreciation and energy.
@Matt Stevenson i know. stupid.
same solo since '76
@@ryanmozert Exactly. While i was a big Eddie fan, i would much rather watch David Gilmour.
His kind heart? Were you his friend? If not then you dont have a clue, i heard a lot of stories about him being rude to fans, of course the drugs and booze may have had something to do with that.
I was at that show (first time I saw Van Halen live was 1984) and was even more blown away than the first time I saw Eddie live!
I grew up with his music. The best music in the best era. His music played a huge part in my life. Even now I have every album and recording backed up and I take turns downloading different albums to my truck. Yes, I still play it loud, really loud! I'm never without Eddie Van Halen and his music and I never will be. Thank you for this video upload stefansantana and Rock On, Eddie I'm still with ya everyday!!!
RIP Maestro. Best not to be sad he's gone, but happy for the time that he was with us.
When I first heard VH, my feeling was that no one could ever translate the pure essence of rock and roll better than he could. It was other worldly and still is. He was a vessel for the kind of musical purity that we rarely encounter in out lifetimes.
Indeed.. I am fortunate to live in this period with Eddie
Second word from the end you typed "out" instead of "our." No offense by any means but I would want someone to let me know too!!!💯🇱🇷🏅😳🤯😁 👍❤️
(Corrected version of above. Thanks for pointing this out Pumpkin) When I first heard VH, my feeling was that no one could ever translate the pure essence of rock and roll better than he could. It was other worldly and still is. He was a vessel for the kind of musical purity that we rarely encounter in our lifetimes.

Eddie set the bar high. There are a ton of kids nowadays that can play all this stuff. BUT... Eddie invented it. He learned by picking the needle up off a record over and over again and in doing so he totally reinvented the guitar. The kids I mentioned got to see the magic tricks up close and personal through videos like this. There will never be another Eddie. We all take it for granted but we all got to walk the Earth with Giants and Gods.
Are you saying He was "High"?
A master of the instrument and a great innovator...taking the guitar to new levels. RIP
To me ; eddie was the best of the best !!!🤘🎸🤠
The absolute best of all time I still remember when their debut album was released and eruption changed guitar players, they were awe struck I'm 58 I had the pleasure of seeing Van Halan live many times with David Lee Roth and Sammy Hagar great memories RIP Eddie we love you brother you made a big influence on us all.
Same here brother I'm 59.Rolled up alot of joints listening to these guys.Seen them at the Garden in 1981..Blew my socks off.
yeap
.fly on Eddie....
I’m 57 and yes Eddie Van Halen changed guitar playing they were pioneers before him but none that made so much of an influence Randi Rhodes ,Engwie Malmsteen they were all incredible and they were shaped and molded by Eddie I’m sure Michael Shanker was the godfather of guitar rock licks in the early 70s
Eddie will forever be...I'm 56 and I was able to see him in concert several times. His constant smile, exciting movements onstage, he just breathed the music. He played effortlessly. The music flowed through every inch of his being and poured out through his hands so fluidly. Like Wolfie said, a modern day Mozart. My only regret is never meeting you in person Eddie. When you showed up in Heaven and let off one of your squeals on your guitar, you shook the pearly gates and woke everyone the hell up. RIP Dear brother. I hope to see you up there. Wonder what Jesus thought of your Frankenstrat.
That dude just loved playing guitar & it shows.
RIP, EVH...
So much talent and raw energy. I’m glad I got to see him live at least 3 times. Such a great loss…RIP EVH.
Eddie didnt die, he got called to the main stage. This was ALL a practice run.
I Love the way Dave pays the ultimate respect and tribute to the legend at the end with the I'm not worthy bow!
Yeah, that was my first thought after being blown away by the playing.......DLR actually acted humble. Was like, did I see that right!? Hahahahaha!
Im sad to see that era go. But that vibe and excitement will never end. He was truely the happiest performer to watch. Im glad I got to be a fan.
I’m glad to have seen that video that made my night probably my week
They were the 2nd concert I ever got to see, when I was barely 13. It was larger than life, and it defined "awe" for years afterward.
There's a line at the end of the "Avengers: Age of Ultron" movie,
"Yes, but a thing isn't beautiful because it lasts."
So great.😃😄🤤
That man could put on a show like no other guitar player of his time. The one and only.
For those of you who saw Eddie at this show, you are the luckiest people to see him perform before he passed...Wow, he was just sooo incredible and an amazing artist!!..What an amazing legend he was...He will never be forgotten...I still cry...RIP EVH
That never gets old! It's every bit as inspiring as the first time I heard Eddie more than 40 years ago. Though your body is no longer alive ...you will live forever in the music you made. All Love!
We miss you Ed....thank you for leaving us the music. You & your music will live on on all of our hearts. RIP Bro we will miss you.
Eddie was my hero growing up
This is Eddie you remember at his best sure hard to think he is no longer with us.Rip Eddie
Amazing work Eddie
Off the charts talents
EVH was just the absolute man i miss this dude a lot he changed everything for guitar.
Was there !! What a awesome night
It is so Hard to Believe, that He's Gone!!!,I Remember, I was 13 Years Old when Running with The Devil came out!,I Wore my Turntable Out Listening to that Album!,and in The Process Made My Mom and all the Neighbors Fans of Van Halen!,or at Least I Tried too!!!,We Miss You Eddie!!!!
Just like the person that replied here below me! I am a 55 year old guy full of tears watching this! A whole era of my life is disappearing! I used to play these albums over and over, and was excited and couldn't wait to get the next one coming out! And all of us who picked up a guitar as a teen tried to play his licks! Look at him in this video! He is so content and happy performing his special craft to make his fans happy! I am in tears because we lost such a great artist who will always be labeled one of the greatest guitar Gods, as well as lost a piece of my growing up. Thanks to whoever posted this!
Still to this day it is hard to accept that he is gone. I will NEVER accept the fact he left us. As far as I am concerned....EVH will NEVER die!!!!!
Seth I hope you understand it’s up to the generations after us to keep Van Halen alive but I think we both know that nobody change guitar and rock music like Eddie Van Halen dead I can’t believe he’s gone either I’m heartbroken I can’t imagine how a son must feel he must still be in her dark place it takes a while to get over that kind of thing but he does have a good uncle kind of to fill the void I’m hoping
I Agree
So Many greats have left us
Eddie, B.B. King, Aretha Franklin, Cliff Burton, Bon Scott, The Abbott Brothers,
Malcolm young, Michael Jackson
it's all really quite sad actually and as one who saw all this since the 70s , our generation thought music would just get better and better and there would be greats to replace the greats
What the fuck has the world come to and where is it headed
I don't even know what will exist 2 generations down the line
Seth from co... It makes you wonder why most people simply can't play like that 🤔? Why? Why the rarity? Life is strange.
joe, you ate absolutely right!
one of the nicest guys has left earth!
so talented and warmhearted, inspiring a whole generation.
i willforever miss him!
greetings from germany, kreuzzer
Miss ya Ed , like millions and millions of us , you will always be with us all .🎶🎶🎶🎶🎶🎶🎶🎶🎶🎶🎶🎶
Un real musician! I saw Van Halen in 93/94 in Salt Lake. His solo was 22 mins long. I couldn't believe what i was listening to. Thank you Eddie for all your tinkering and what you left us with. Remember everyone he BUILT HIS SOUND!!!! His made all his guitars when he first started playing cuz he couldn't find the sound he wanted so he created it. All my love Eddie ❤⭐❤
Edward Van Halen - The King of Ten Fingers and Six Strings
Made me play guitar....at age of 12...back 79....Im thankful...RIP
Me too! He continues to bless us even after he's gone! The soundtrack of Our Lives, and life's been good!
Amazing talent. All that wisdom developed over the years....Just wow.
can't believe this guy is gone
His tone and style, he was the best in his age, my favorite. He pleased my ears.
Just the whole crowd literally sitting around just watching Eddie fuck around on the guitar... priceless
I don't think there is anyone who made it look so effortless and had more fun playing than EVH. He was an original that left way too soon. One of those artists that changed the format in a meaningful way. People were copying him at every turn and he still did it better. With a smile on his face!
Peter, Check our young man called Jacob Deraps. That young man is almost a reincarnational of Eddie Van Halen. He’s unbelievable and is it true study of Eddie Van Halen and pours out his entire heart and truly learning play just like Eddie and even has Eddie’s tone and brown sound down perfectly! Then there’s the Zappa But Jacob what melt your heart as well watch everyone of his videos on UA-cam you will be impressed. God bless you my friend Peter, peace be with you
He is the GOAT! Ive never seen anyone do with harmonics what he does...simply amazing! You're not taught this...its only God given! Miss ya Eddie!
My best friend I never met.
Miss you King!
My thoughts exactly! I always thought I'd be able to meet him and jam with him someday. His legacy lives on in my heart and always will
Those of us alive when Eruption hit the airwaves will never forget the impact it had on us, Eddie changed guitar playing forever. Not to say he invented hammer on's & pull off's, he said himself, but he brought it to the forefront, and his legacy lives on. RIP Eddie, we wish we still had you with us. ❤️
Eruption wasn't always played on FM as the lead in to Running with the Devil. You had to get the album to hear all the tracks. Im in Nashville and was with my big brother at that Sabbath riot at the Municipal Auditorium in 78. On my channel I took some videos last year of the building if you wanna see it. Sabbath's gear got wrecked and fireworks everywhere and smoke. We went back the next Sunday when they doubled back around to makeup the date. We got two VH shows. They became famous here and at that moment. Sabbath was actually over with and really was supporting VH for Warner. Tony wasnt happy with Eddie but they did stay friends I hear.
@@daviddigital6887 I was in STL listening to KSHE, and it was always played before "You Really Got Me." I can't remember which got played first Runnin' or YRGM, but I was in high school at the time, just starting to play guitar myself, so of course it had an impact.
I wasn't aware of the riot at the time, I'll check out your channel to see the aftermath. Thanks for the heads up.
You're amazing Eddie. RIP
I was at this show. Very cool and nostalgic, seeing them back together. I also saw Sammy with VH at least 4 times. The main thing was that Eddie smile and charisma: He could have been playing a cardboard box with fishing line for strings. A truly kind king of a man. Very missed by millions of us
A true Brother a master of all things tapping playing tinkering a righteous guitar aficionado. We miss you
The Most Amazing Right Hand Fast Picking Technique On Planet Earth.
Eddie is a virtuoso guitar coach, she never gets bored with him!😁
In 1978 I won some free tickets from KROQ radio station to see Van Halen at their first large arena show at the Long Beach Convention Center. They opened for Santana. I went from watching them play in backyard parties in Pasadena to the clubs to the big show. They were arrogant and cocky because they knew they were special. We had no doubt they would make it. It was a given.
The GOAT 🐐. I Miss You Everyday. Look how fast He still was at his age.Always Copied never ever duplicated. RIP Eddie
I will never be over the fact the mighty Eddie Van Halen will never grace a stage again.. I still have all the records but to never again see, hear and feel the King's guitar tapping and dive-bombing through you is a lot to process. 🙏🤘😢
There are rare moments where you get to witness pure joy and human excellence. A Barry Sanders run, an Alex Honnold free solo, and for me, most of all, Eddie on stage performing sorcery with his hands and what must be a magic guitar. RIP the GOAT.
Saw VH live twice. Once with DLR and then again with the red rocker. VH I, VHII, Fair warning, 5150 and F.U.C.K are my fav albums. He's one of the all - time best guitarists and my personal #3 greatest ever.
Kick ass I was at this show Eddie was the king!
Its still hard to believe he is gone, he was and still is the absolute best. Tears still come to my eyes also. One more thing, him and Valerie made the best couple ever. I know you are still rocking Eddie, you are truly missed dude. 🎸🎸
Eddie is LEGEND.... Absouletly Guitar King. R. I. P. Eddie Van Hallen
I saw Eddie and the band in 1978 in Amsterdam...I couldn't believe what he was doing and I can't still believe it...nice touch that Eddie & me were born in the same city...but somehow his guitar genes turned out a little different than mine, hahaha!
Once in a milliniaum! I'm glad i got to know you! And ,im very happy when I introduced my Mom to you ,you were calling her Mom ,and hugging her and that made her whole night, and we were just leaving from seeing Tom Jones ,so ,if you topped Tom Jones, that's saying something ! I lost my Mom in 2020 ,and a few months late ,you were gone! And a year ago next week my best friend since i was 7 died ,so ,this just SUCKS! But ,you were a giant influence on me and most guitarist ,and you were a real nice guy. Everybody has their stuff that happens ain life, but you definitely left your mark! EVH!
RIP EVH
👑
🎸
The best 😊💖
This reminds me of how loud our house was before everyone grew up and left with Marshall amps everywhere
The man was a Genie guitar genius. RIP
I won tickets to this concert...what an amazing night. Kenny Wayne Shepherd Band was the opening act.
Damn ! Eddie was so very good . Miss his playing!🤘🎸🤠
Simply the best at what he did. There are guitar players and then there was Edward......
Eddie knew what to keep the camera focussed on.
RIP Sir
A man and his guitar.. no words!!!!
Best smile in the history of rock guitar. I love how he gives the audience a thumbs-up between sequences, like they just did something great. (Or is that a signal to somebody directing the show, who just said "Yes, keep going"?)
I was blessed enough to have seen this man enjoy his expression of his craft. Eddie's honest guitar playing made everyone play air guitar. His smile was the sign he was inspired. I thank him and will NEVER forget how your music documents points of my life and everyone's else's. Hero's never die, and I can't wait to hear your new stuff when i get there.
Absolutely stunning.
A special kind of focused genius.
He gave his fans their Jiffy Lube!!!
Such a genuine guy! I truly miss him, on many different levels.
He played with such wit and such heart. The guitar solos and his riffs are of Legend.
The greatest rock composer ever, in my opinion!
Van Halen forever!
The tone!
That's what I call Raw flat out talent.
Saw their great show!
As a kid they lived about a block away from my cousins house . Around 1974 or 76 . We knew of the family through my uncle's law practice when there dad was a judge in Pasadena CALIFORNIA. We were 12 or 13 years old .
We were hooked we would ride are skateboard s and listen to them jam most every night.
My younger girl cousin was best friends with David Lee Roth's little sister. That was how we met them. It's been great seeing them go so far . But dam has it been hard to see them split up . And then samy ( good thing) but not the same . Thinking of Eddie ass dead is hard . It makes you think of your own mortality ( hart transplant recently adds to that . Hate to see them gone :-(
God damn. I did not realize how much Eddie retained his chops this far into his life. Good lord.
Best Guitar rifts ever
Thank you for sharing this! Long Live the King!
I wish that I would have appreciated every solo that he performed each time that I saw him live. Gone but never forgotten. The world misses you King Edward.
God he could play. He will always be the King to me
It is really hard to believe that he is gone at such a young age . . .
Hopefully, we will get to see his talent in the new world (Revelation 21:3, 4)
😊
65 isn't that young. He had a great life.
Eddie vanhalen is a great guitarist
There is only one Eddie Van Halen guitar king and guitar innovator, r.i.p King Ed. 👑
2 only that will still be inspiring in another 200 years, King Edward and Jimmy H. True genius that changed guitar playing forever.
Still a MONSTER!!!!!! RIP EVH
Dang I miss him he was the greatest ever far as I'm concerned.
Saw him play in person more than once amazing player and seem to be a great person too
Eddie's signature smile...
I got to meet him 👌 AWSOME
Incredible!🖖🏻
Eddie, Randy and Stevie Ray Vaughn were the shit in the 80's! Eddie created so many licks, Randy took classical music to a heavy metal level and Stevie just blew the doors off with his Texas Blues Hendrix inspired style. Those cats ruled the world!
Cool video.
Love to see great musicians still playing at that age...
More great music came out of that guitar in 10 minutes than come out of most people in their lifetimes. It's easy to overlook, but one of the things that made Eddie so special was that he never got sick of playing the same songs he had been playing for decades, like so many people get tired of doing. It's in this whole video, but particularly pay attention to the end, starting at about 8:45. You can't fake that. He f'n loved playing and he knew that he was making people happy. He is the GoaT and he always will be.
Eddie did some fabulous playing during his Commander Riker years. RIP to a once in lifetime musical genius.
"Commander Riker years?" High and tight vs LONG hair, you mean?
Eddie I still can't believe your gone, I miss you so very very much, every time I see you playing your guitar, I want to cry because I know that it's only a recording, Rock on and Rest Easy Guitar God Eddie, there will never be another like you 💯😪💗
It's been a dystopian nightmare.
