@@wuzz111 Oh yeah, cheers. XD
You sure PACed a lot into this video. But seriously, great tutorial!
Ayyyyyyyyy
Thank you! 😁
Hi lath. Fancy seeing you here.....
HHHHHHhhwwwwhhhyyyy lathland you were the chosen one!
Didn’t expect to see you here.
lmao
I had absolutely no idea the Input Port thing gave a damage falloff deduction. This entire guide has been massively helpful.
Now I want to play FTD already
Did you know? Particle accelerator cannon PAC a punch.
The melee lens can be an absolute beast if a thing if set up right. I made a hover-under sub that just rips the guts out of anything that lets it get into position. So much fun :)
"Basic Particle Cannon Guide"
*46 minutes*
Welcome to FtD and the channel. 😎
You should watch the 1:30:00 video on the absolute basics for trains in Factorio
PACs in a shellnut
@@8b8b8b trust me I have and still have no clue outside of basic signals.
It's a Borderwise video, they need to be over 20 mins for anything :p
The wise border once said:
"... what was I talking about?" 🤔
This was uploaded uncannily close to me starting the RSC-60 Gamma for my faction in a cc, a craft which uses pacs for its main weapon. Now I don’t need to mess with pac experimentation for learning how to pac, cheers!
I really enjoyed this, PAC's were always a weapon that I stayed away from because I kept assuming they were to complex. now I can't wait to get back on FTD and bolt a few secondary PAC guns onto my battleship
I generally use pacs for anti-air, as the smaller planes get vaporized.
Oversized, overclocked impact PACs do such wonderfully bad things to little bois
Could you go in depth on how stealth works in this game? I think its a good video idea as not much people really know stealth is even possible really!
Good idea!
Coincidentally, I'd been messing around with a PAC front-sider recently. Currently planning to look into whether I can use bread/ACB's or something to automatically adjust the damage type and charge/focus levels based on the AI's current target to make the weapon more effective without having to babysit it.
Good news! All of that is totally possible with ACBs. 👍
I'm getting into the habit of using breadboards to manage my PACs. You use the primary target mass detection component to adjust the base charge time for the enemy size, and I also recently came up with the idea of using the reader component to read the time since the last firing, and increase their charge time to match that, so that if they end up not firing for a while for whatever reason (say, the enemy was out of the arc of fire), it will charge up instead of sitting idly.
Also, you can read if they are broken, and set the LWC fire rate to 0 so that they don't fire when broken.
Nice, a little while ago I was asking about particle cannons on your discord as I was having a LOT of trouble with them. Your last video on them is a little old, this will help a lot. Thanks BorderWise!
You're welcome! 😁
very informative, I might try a pac fighter with the scatter lens now I know it's got decent range
dang, barely missed being first again haha
thank you for making a guide on this, I was gonna look into making a PAC fighter soon :)
thanks for the tutorial, I had no idea what I was doing with pacs before
I will use this knowledge to make main guns of my battleship and borderwise one of your old tutorials on armour in from from the depths was really helpful when I was designing my new battleship hull so thanks borderwise but I’ll stay from airships and spaceships and subs but stick with good old ships and helicopters as anything above those are way pass my skill grade so thanks borderwise for tutorials on stuff from the depths!
Here's a weird thing about PAC: it's spread growth isn't linear. The dependency function (spread angle from distance) is actually a cubic parabola (but only for 4500 meters or so, on a longer distances the formula begins to missbehave).
Pac pros:
-hitscan explosion (enough said)
-hitscan thump dmg (meme)
-hitscan EMP, great against stupid shit like LH ships
-hitscan piercing, great for sniping AIs
-sounds cool
-hits like an absolute truck, can easily 1 shot every single small craft or even cut in half some bigger ones
Pac cons:
-parts have no hp at all
-flexibility is 0, you can hit only the things right in front of you (ubless you make a massive, well armmored, well shielded turret)
-high cost to build
-high cost to fire
I kinda like them, but pacs are a very, very nieche weapon type
Did you miss the part where Long-Range PAC Lenses have 20,000 health?
@@BorderWise12 been a while since I played with pacs
mostly bcz steams are broken and I cant get enough energy to make them work (well the huge ones that make me smile, not the tiny ass one on your PT bote)
Needed this
I love melee Pacs because the craft doesn't have to move to make them do damage, also they're pretty and u can do a lot of crazy visual things with it
"Expensive to make and run. Very expensive to protect yourself from."
Do you have a detection system guide?
Love your vids btw
That little PAC canoe feels like the Anemonite to me. Just a suggestion though!
I see Pac Cannons i click i see Borderwise and i sub
3:08 Idk how detection worked in 2020 but nowadays you'd need laser range tracker, visual gimbal camera and a coincidence rangefinder for minimum bearing and range error and maximum updates per second.
Also you can set the turret not to fire before it has X amount of detection error.
And also the detection equipment would be great to be set to a lower update time. Not too low tho, sudden movements of lets say aircrafts can break your tracker's predictions and it'll make your turrets to overshoot. Specificly with the squirrel, it has random evasive manouvers with high power and instant counter-manouvers which scrambles the detection's predictions totally.
Yay!
now I can finish the big ass turret I made for my space battleship
For changing the accuracy is there a way to make a giant onion peeler, like a pac cannon that just damages every block in a cone, and would sorta peel the ship's armor like an onion?
i find that 60% focus on scatter lens is accurate enough for engagements below 2000m
i build a submarine on wheels. its a giant battery. with one giant Pac.
It needs to be recharged by a vehicle with super efficient power generation.
It also reaches into orbit.
nothing is safe.
its the dunbest thing.
hey, I was wondering. How do you do those Ship propellers in the down of your first ship? the cylindrical with free gimbal.
You mean the azipods? Learn how here! ua-cam.com/video/CAnr1m8U-wo/v-deo.html
I have heard that the Megalodon gets PAC´s, will this push back her most wanted ? And are you using Cram´s for that ?
Teach me how to zap canoo man
Man, PACs are fun. Build one in designer; 1,8 M energy for evaporating the face of a very unfortunate marauder.
Perhaps showcase the Huge missiles which lathrix talked about
Yup. That's upcoming.
I really hope in the upcoming particle snake tutorial video just for fun you make a GIGANTIC particle cannon, like a Space Battleship Yamato wave motion style gun. I want to see you delete big ships in a single shot :P
A few years ago (before all the different lenses were a thing) I got bored and stuck a PAC on a turret and just wrapped all five tubes around and around and around until each one was at max length. I called it the Eye of Sauron.
That poor White Flayers craft lost half its entire god damned frontside, I loved it.
@@kylestanley7843 *AMAZING!* I would have loved to see it. I had ideas for a heavily shielded flying/floating craft named after and based on The Beholder from Dungeons and Dragons. Main central eye has an "anti magic cone" which would be various munition defenses etc to stop everything incoming, and all its various eyestalks would be different weapons, Including an incredibly powerful 'death beam' PAC.
@@RoxyGotMoxy. Well, you chose the right person to share that idea with, I love DnD lol
That's a _brilliant_ idea, I think an omnidirectional orb of fixed PACs would be a pretty fun build! Trying to squeeze in all the tubing sounds like a fun challenge.
The funniest thing to me is that it would be quite vulnerable to another beholder due to the counterless PAC, which is surprisingly fitting for them.
@@kylestanley7843 yeah for sure. I dont have a powerful enough laptop to run FtD nor the doctorate required to understand half of it lol, but if you ever make such a thing, please please let me know ok? I would LOVE to see it.
Could even have the different beams, so one eyestalk is the PAC, another is a laser, another is a missile launcher, a lower one drops torpedoes, another is a cram cannon/mortar etc. Or could just do like different colour and ability set up PACs and lasers representing the different beams and their effects etc. Just a big ball of hard to hit heavy armor with all sorts of powerful but otherwise a little vulnerable weapons arrays, protected primarily by AI keeping it pointing at the enemy, and the anti-magic cone.
Hey how do you get your water like that
Two Questions:
1) Can you mount the vertical lens on its side to make it horizontal?
2) Is there really no benefit other than block HP from using the longer pipes?
1)The lenses can be placed in any direction and can be routed all along the body, you could make a ship whose structure is made out of PAC pipes that ends up shooting downwards if you really wanted
2)No idea
If a demonstration didn't go wrong it wouldn't be a Borderwise(tm) tutorial ;)
Ur fucking spider avatar scared the shit outa me when it popped up in the intro. Great vid tho lmfao, I never really got PAC cannons.
do you have a tutorial or tips on how to snake the tubes through turrets or confined spaces?
Not specifically that, no. Best thing to do is practice playing snake with the tubes.
@@BorderWise12 ill get some apples. 👍
THOOM? Sgt. Schlock would approve...
I was hoping someone would get that reference. 😁
i can totally imagine a ship that defends itself against ram craft with the melee lens
particle cannons are good for new players (kinda like me) and easy to master
41:25 Maybe a stupid question but when i built this, what do i press to enter firing mod???
I made this but dont know how to fire it???
Scroll the mouse wheel to select the right weapon slot (top one is all weapons) and hit Ctrl to fire.
@@BorderWise12 thank you so much
@@baker8002 No worries. 👍
That thing with the melee lens reminded me of robot wars
also, is explosive impact decent for anti air purposes? Asking for me.
The thumbnail is a weapon of pac oculus
No I want a rotary partial canon mini gun. Sounds as expensive as I would be useless, but I want it.
I like the fact that it is a „basic „ pac guide but it is 50min long xD
I have a cruiser with a particle cannon that has 274k damage per shot. Clearly better than any other weapon (not railgun though)
Could I know how you made those propellers I can't seem to replicate them?
You mean the azipods? It's just props on a spinblock rigged to respond to AI yaw control, with a a bit of Ctrl+X decoration.
@@BorderWise12 thank you, I know where to look now.
you reading the comments
look at the 'Hunter' from the gray talons
I want to get this so badly but I don't have the PC
I was trying to make a death star and discovered that a PAC tubing can only be 1000m long each. So build with that in mind for megabuilds
is it 1000m long across all arms of the cannon, or is it 1000m for each arm?
@@ninjasocks6823 each lense can have 1000m of tubing
haven't we had a pac tutorial before? I don't remember
Nah. I covered the PAC update when it happened. 👍
In my opinion lead should counter PACs, on the same principle of radiation, lead is good at stopping high energy particles because it is dense, PACs shoot high energy particles, so lead should absorb their damage better than other blocks maybe? Like EMP and wood/stone, like it could absorb % of all damage per block the PAC beam hits or travels through, but the problem with that is if you set it to EMP than the logic behind lead absorbing some damage goes to shit.
PACs fire exotic elements at near-lightspeed. I think it'd take more than layers of lead, in the same way layers of lead don't do jack against AP shells. XD
@@BorderWise12 well to be honest some radioactive particles inside nuclear reactor can go faster than light, but only if underwater where light travels a bit slower, although I don't think lead is still used for nuclear fission control rods, they can still stop those kind of light speed particles, unless the exotic particles are something like anti-matter which would anahialate with regular particles, which still would make sense for the impact mode, it kinda makes sense, but idk I am just a nerd with google not a scientist to say what should or should not make sense. And APS going through lead kinda makes sense since lead is dense but soft, on the mohs scale lead gets a 1.5, it is even softer than gold which scores a 2.5 on the mohs scale.
your blocks stopping the particles is exactly what makes them do damage :p same as any other long range weapon really it's just transferring energy from one place to another. you could make an argument for lead stopping penetration specifically though I guess
@@Graknorke the thing is that it lead is a dense material, there fore it can absorb a high number of particles, instead of shattering like it would with fission.
My proposal is: lead would be better than regular metal at absorbing a hit from a PAC, not that it would be immune, but it would shatter less, making less internal spalling.
I followed the turorial and my pac doesnt fire
Do you have a Local Weapon Controller controlling it and do yoy have sufficent battery power?
Lay down pipe... Be a plumber!
Unpredictable projectiles that are stupid strong due to no accuracy perfect for swarms of fighters
Bros PACking
I think using partical canons are probably the worst weapon for fixed broadside canons.
Yeah. But fixed frontside? Oh, they work just fine for that.
