What do you think of the HBX 903? A good option for a beginner? 2022 is going to be a great year so be sure to subscribe if you haven't already! Happy New Year!! See you in 2022!
@@beyondRC nice teaser for the 901a. Can’t wait to see that. Ours continues to wow me, every time I drive it. Just wish the battery tray were bigger to add some more weight. It was a toss up today at The skatepark between the 901a and the LC Racing EMBT. This time the LC won the toss and it and the 1/16 hbx pro took an absolute beating. Both delivered double backflips. Both went home with nothing broken, in spite of some truly terrible landings. That HBX flexi plastic is little short of miraculous.
I have the old version had it about 5 years and never broke anything on it except the cheap 5 wire servo they used to come with even the plastic drive shafts are still good very good car for price
I've just ordered the 901A myself. After a bit of research (and owning other HBX products) I'm already certain it's going to be a superb all rounder and a great start to 2022. Really looking forward to seeing your take when it's ready 👍
I just had mine apart to grease the diffs. It has metal gears throughout including the spur. Also the motor mount has holes for a larger 14t pinion if you want a bit more speed.
I have to say, I would buy a Haiboxing car over a WL Toys car at the moment. It's good to see a company being honest about their car, but a shame they still use friction shocks, still. Like yours, my sons 16889 is still going strong, although, he's on his 3rd body, having beaten the living hell out of the first 2. Spare parts are readily available, if you can wait for them from China, but touch wood, all I've had go wrong, have been a few bent driveshafts. They've been upgraded to CVDs both front and rear, after a bit of modifications to the rear ones. Great looking car, and ripe to upgrade. Happy New Year, Ricky. 👍🏻
I am disappointed with Wltoys as you know Rob! False speed claims, bad quality control etc. HBX are storming ahead with very solid releases and if I was wltoys I would be worried this year as I think they will take over the cheap/budget market. Happy new year mate!
I've got one and I think it's great. The size is a big step up over the 1/16 models. The wide stance and big wheels are awesome and make it very stable. Usual excellent HBX build quality, should stand up to most 'normal' abuse easily. Not the fastest truck in the world but good pick up for a 390 and the handling is great. For the money I think it's top notch. Great review 👍 (run the led wiring under the bumper loop though so it doesn't get pinched in the springs - the manual shows this)
Another great video Ricky so which one do you prefer, this one or the flyhal I know the flyhal lied about top speed but they both do around 17 and the flyhal has oil shocks how do they compare in size side by side are they similar, the flyhal has a bigger motor so would it be easy to change pinion gear for better speed and how do they compare on price . HAPPY NEW YEAR .
Is there any way you can make a video about repairing on the wheels? My nephew recently rammed it against a wall and one of the wheels broke off along with the screw that holds it in place. Half of the screw is still inside the cross shaped housing. Please let me know. Thanks!
Hello mate Thanks for the video you are very honest and I like its good to see English people like Talbot Tomley and your good self doing good RC reviews thanks again keep safe big up the UK
Appreciate that thanks David. I am not one of those youtubers who will say something is good when its not just because the car was free. Any companies I work with are told before hand I will only be honest in my vid and if the product is bad I will let people know.
Great video and HBX make some great little entry cars and there also great if you’ve been into the hobby for a while aswell. Atm I find myself going to my 16889 above all my bigger cars as you can throw them in a rucksack get a couple of small 1500mah 2s batteries and take it anywhere. The wheels they use are excellent for bashing and the Rd. The only moan I have is maybe charge us a bit more to start with and include oil filled shocks? Look forward to more great content off you in this new year best wishes bro 👍😎
Happy new year mate! The 16889 is a great little truck! Oil shocks should be a standard feature its pointless including friction shocks as most will upgrade these instantly!!
This IMO is a "beginner" beginner RC. The absence of oil shocks is a no-no in my eyes nowadays, perhaps only there to reduce the price (and any decent driver will upgrade them anyway in a month). I would get the 16889a Pro instead, or then the 901a, which you keep teasing constantly :-) If the 901a platform gets a monster truck body and higher ground clearance, I would be instantly sold!
I'm not sure why they dont just include them to begin with for slightly more money or just include them for the same price they really dont cost a lot! 901a should be the next video out so stay tuned!
@BeyondRC If u are the one to choose with no other options of course, between the FLYHAL FC610 and this HBX903 which one will you pick. Just for some who does not know that they are almost the same.
Question, does the remote control has the ability to use the brakes? The box says something like that but the only 2 options i see is reverse or forward.
I just received on amazon 2 of those trucks same box different color made by Yoncher same image even, 137 dollars for two, came with 4 1500 mah batteries bonus battery for holidays I expect.
Hello! I would like to buy this cart! I am satisfied with a durable and reliable electronics. What a Wl toys Rc car with a 540 engine and failing the first time of use... how decent is the quality of the variator and batteries.
www.modelsport.co.uk/product/blackzon-smyter-drive-shaft-set-front-rear--1347514 took seconds on google ;) Blackzon have used the same design for their trucks and are identical Cheers
For me honestly i would prefer 16889 instead of this..the chasis shape is quite ugly for this model.hbx should built a truck with more power when they increase the size, not use the same motor with 1/16 scale..they should use 540 motor with this 1/12 size or maybe it's more like 1/14 scale.overall still can't beat 16889 or hosim q901,902 and 903.
I tried a 1600mah 2s 30c. No real performance gain maybe slightly. Changing out to a small brushless would be best bet for any real upgrade in power. 😎👍
Yes. Other channels have already tried this and it adds 2-3mph. I've even seen one channel run it on 3s and it seemed fine but that may shorten the life of some components.
Just my two cents. I bash 15ft heigh jumps with my arrma Kraton 6s and in my opinion this has a lot of similar characteristics to that vehicle. I think this thing will eat jumps up.
What age group is it for ? not a good beginners car for a adult ? I would really like to meet those who buy this level of RC and say it's really good, I ran a group of 50 rc bashers in the south east, some of the new members that we met had what you call entry level rc cars that they thought were the nuts? once in the group and them coming to race bash and so on they soon realised there entry level rc cars were not up to the job, many people are not realistic in how much a good rc car will cost? I meet many in the park and they always ask that question of how much is your rc car, I get told most of the time £100/200 lol when there looking at £600 price rc car, the first 2 nitro cars I bought were from HBX from a hobby shop in Bromley and the gave me nothing but trouble trying to get them to run properly lol, at the time I was lucky that the guys at Sussex model Centre swap a Thunder tiger EB4 S2 buggy for both of them, I had so much fun with that buggy with no running issues, best to spend a bit more and be really happy, Brands I run to date are, Kyosho, Losi, Arrma, corally , Tean Durango ,anf Tekno racing .
I think it could be a decent adults beginner car but not without its limitations. Yes it wont compare to the Higher end stuff but not everyone wants to spend £300-500 or more on their first RC car so these budget models are great to see if they like the hobby then move up to something higher quality and more expensive. Not having oil shocks and featuring primarily plastic components might be off putting to some but as mentioned in the video with those parts and even a brushless conversion I can see it being a good option and still under £150 all in.
I preferred this over the Flyhal but the Flyhal does offer more for the money and its cheaper. That said HBX are a very good brand and either this or the Flyhal would be great options! The 901a which is coming soon is awesome and better than both of these trucks but its also a bit more expensive!
What do you think of the HBX 903? A good option for a beginner? 2022 is going to be a great year so be sure to subscribe if you haven't already! Happy New Year!! See you in 2022!
mate! I think I figured out the top speed claims from all these manuf. Its DOWNHILL top speed. 🤣🤣🤣
Hahahaha! I think your right 😎🤣🤣🤣
Did you get a chance to try it with a 2S lipo and how’d it do ?
Yes I did. I switched to a 1600mah 2s lipo and performance was pretty much the same worked just fine

Just a question, when you say fully proportional does the rc having a speed selector (for example speed 1 and speed 2) count as being proportional?
proportional steering and throttle dude

Meant to ask you, does the 903 lid fit on the 901a and vice versa ?
Is it true that the hbx90a is the pro version of the hbx903? Do they have exactly the same chassis?
Hi does 2996a use same parts as these
Compare or compared to the Flyhal fc610?
You get more for the money with the Flyhal fc610! If I had to choose I would say Flyhal and I prefer the look of that one!

FC610 it features more metal components over the 903 which everything is plastic
This one compared to 16889, which one is better?
both very solid trucks. Also check out the flyhal fc610 on my channel
