Fantastic. Enormously informative. This is the way to set up your planer or thicknesser. Spend half an hour watching this video, get a gauge for about a tenner off ebay, make the simple jigs as the video shows and adjust your machine as shown. I was having no fun with my thicknesser, after following this video it works like it should. Many thanks!

This video is still useful today! I used it several years ago to set up my 1958 Powermatic 100 and am now using it for a 1953 Powermatic CE.

I acquired a parks planer some time ago. I paid a premium for it hoping for the best. It got out of tune and i became frustrated trying to get it back into tip top shape. This video was invaluable. Once I got better informed and acquainted with my 1971 parks planer I became extatic. It's an exceptional machine. Far superior in every way to the newer table top machines and I've had several. It's also superior to the foley belsaws, grizzly and jets out there. With a little patience if you can find one of these you'll never look back. I have two other planers and rarely use them. Watch this video!

A light-weight wooden "T" mallet easily cut on the bandsaw can sometimes serve instead of the rubber hammer and stick to tap a knife into position. It turns a two-handed operation into a one-handed operation.

"You may want to polish the ends of the screws as on some of those imported machines with the softer metals it may scratch the bed." Zing!

Just curious as to why parks 12" planers are so desirable

If you're into the whole old woodworking machine aesthetic, there aren't too many good 12" planers for small shops. The Parks is a pretty solid choice, is durable, does a good job, and the machines and parts aren't too difficult to find

@@joewellsgmail ok that's what I thought....the earlier architecture and duarbility is largely unmatched. However for business I use a double-sided planer...not as pretty nor is the cast anywhere near the quality.

Looks good for this planner. However, I recommend to follow your manufacture's instruction.
