For those wondering what the bubble warp in the glitched Any% run did: When using a flute warp, the game changes your character's X and Y coordinates on the next frame. However, on the very frame after, the rising bubble causes a shift to your character's Y coordinate, causing them to instantly warp vertically from the warp point to where the bubble lies on the Y-axis. (In summary, frame 1 is the flute warp, frame 2 is the bubble warp). The X coordinate of this flute song's warp location and the Y coordinate of the bubble line up with a room right next to the ending firework. There is a caveat to this: If your bubble warp passes through hazards that would normally void your character (i.e. water, ghost pits), they will be knocked out and voided back to the flute warp's starting point. However, this can be circumvented by pausing on the bubble warp frame; since this happens on frame 2, this pause is an unbufferable frame-perfect input. (I hope I explained this correctly; those more active in Animal Well's speedrunning community will know better)
@@stainblaine He noted above that even with the successful bubble warp, if it warps you through things that normally knock you out (ie, water), the you'll get knocked out on the way through the warp. So he warped to the correct room, but got knocked out the first two times, meaning the game resets the character to where he was before. There's a way to avoid being knocked out, but it requires pausing on the correct frame exactly (the bubble warp frame). He paused a frame early on the first two warps (and got knocked out/reset), the paused on the correct frame for the last warp. Hope this helps.
Every since I heard this was getting accepted into GDQ I've been checking the channel constantly waiting for it to appear! I love Animal Well, probably my game of the year so far, and it's also one of only like 2 games I've actually gotten into speedrunning myself (except I don't do most of the skips because I like playing as much of the game as possible lol)
Didn’t expect to see an Animal Well speedrun here! I’m so glad to get this in my recommendations. It’s such a creative game, I love how there are so many exploits.
Damn, I knew the game could be finished quickly using the flute warp, but I didn't know you could still do it in less than 15 minutes without it! Incredibly impressive
I can't wait for the speed runs of this game in like 3 years. You can already tell there's tons of additional speed you could get if you just went crazy on things.
Watching this after watching PirateSoftware’s longplay of Animal Well, and man.. This was beautifully executed. Well done, Hackakat ❤ Also just noticed there are some studio directors from SuperGiant Games in the credits?! I gotta play this game.
Animal Well is goated for me. It makes me feel different than other games. It has been such a pleasure exploring, puzzling, and discovering secret after secret. I have uncovered alot but there is still more and I am savoring it all.
I had no idea you could use fireworks to changes the axis of the ghost heads. I love the detail in this game :) This run was wicked cool, especially not having the flute to use to skip around. Incredible skill on display from the runner too - so many of the bubble jumps or disc jumps are so insanely difficult to actually pull off!
I like the runner, he seems super nice, smiling all the time while showcasing how to actually play and not to die 40+ times on the wolf ghost (like I did) (who tf approved having to move the mock disc a second time?)
11:44 wait that isn't the intended route? i did a similar trick on my first playthrough and haven't figured out how to release the ostrich even after finishing the game

But why does it look like he warped to the same room 3 times, but he said he was a frame early on the first 2 warps?

This really is the first Well-Type GDQ run!
I feel like this guy would be a good Mario maker troll creator
they would do pretty well (haha)
The firecrackers change the direction of the ghost mice?! Always learning something new with this game.
So happy to see animal well getting some runs despite it still being relatively new
this is like if the halo 2 and halo 3 speedrun

Go Bigmode
HackaKat did animal very well.

Love this game getting so much love and love it being showcased at GDQ!
Cool that this game is featured. It’s perfect for the format.
the 3 wide climb is nuts

I heard about this game. Its like Halo 2 meets Halo 3
Such a great run

This game reminds me of some sort of halo sequel

Spaghetti and meatballs
upd: great run! Animal Well is such a wonderful game
Very impressive. Now, let's see a true ending speedrun!
It is always wild how quickly speed runners take apart a new game.
The ghost's movements seem more ferret like
NOT EVEN CLOSE BABYYY!
what a cool run !!!
Thanks for the final boss strat
At 13:37, why did he not just turn the lantern on and go right (through the bird)? It's slightly faster and doesn't require any jumping.
great run bro
Tnis game is so good, I wish there was more like it
“You can refund your Steam purchase if you request within 30 minutes of playtime”.

This new Donkey Kong game looks good.
this game reminds me of halo 2 and halo 3
Is this NMG? This is so much more fun than the eggs-flute route!
Nice Halo 2.5 speedrun
:soexcited:
whoa ive never seen anyone speedrun halo 2 and halo 3 at the same time
It’s great to see a 4 flame run after seeing far too many flute abuse runs
Whoa how do you jump on the disc without bouncing it off a wall first? This is barely the same game I played casually haha
jump while holding right or left, and right at the peak u use the frisbee. that's actually used for one of the post-64 eggs puzzles
11:44 wait that isn't the intended route? i did a similar trick on my first playthrough and haven't figured out how to release the ostrich even after finishing the game
lol yeah you’re supposed to release the ostrich, I believe you’re able to hit a button in the room to have it chase you.
The 11:19 shortcut is how i did that part lol.
🍉🍉🍉🍉🍉!!!!!
100% a dog
wtf you can bubble wand downards?
😮
erm, these animals sure dont look well to me!
