My Very Last Trip at Sea (Part 1)

- After nearly 40 years at sea, I have decided to call it a day, hang up my old sea-boots and work on an organic farm across the road from me. So....I have decided to record my last ever trip at sea. We steam out of Lerwick in the Shetland Islands on board an ERRV (Emergency Response & Rescue Vessel) for one last time.
Thanks to all of you who have followed The Crews & myself over the last decade. IT'S BEEN A BLAST
This is my new UA-cam Channel for Trinity Farm. It is still in its infancy but, with your help, we can make it grow ;)
/ @thetrinityfarmproject...
5 years ago i was struggeling with myself at university when i stumbled across your video "weather from hell" and decided afterwards i also want to experience this. So i quit my university and applied as apprentice to become a shipmechanic. And now 5 years later im at university again to become a shipsengineer and almost done. I will start as 3rd engineer this winter.
So i have to say thank you to inspire me and convince me to go to sea because i love it.
Thanks and have nice retirement from the Vessel !!!
Wow! What a great tribute to a great seaman.
That’s an amazing story. Makes me feel very humble.
Thanks for years of good clips. Have a great time and stay safe!
Thank you very much

Thanks for being such an amazing friend to my Dad aka Old Viking Alec Laird. He’s just returned back to sea at 81 the papers aged him at 82 but. It quite yet. Also your amazing UA-cam channel was mentioned in the article to generate views. Once he’s seen it I’ll send you s copy. He said “ you were some Seaman out of this world and a fantastic Chief Officer “‘I wish I had your subscribers as my car channel on Tik Tok would explode but UA-cam is so different now. Good luck with everything you do Sir.
Thank you, Alex. It was a pleasure and a privilege to sail with your old man. I always said that I would retire before he did 😂

What a fantastic adventure it has been riding along with you on these trips with all the information and fun you have given us. I hope the retirement is everything you want it to be. As an afterthought, what a rodeo ride was enjoyed by the boat crew on recovery to the ship. Need seat belts for that one.
Thank you very much. All the DC crew wear seatbelts…and you can see why 😂

I will miss him. We spend many, many hours chewing the fat.
I loved following you, even though your adventures scared the wits out of me. I just subscribed to your channel in the description. I'm anxious to follow your new adventures!
Thank you very much. I have 3 more videos to post before I concentrate full time on my new channel.
@@Bigwavemaster1 Thats wonderful! I watched them all until you had to stop posting them. They did so much for this old grandma. To watch the comraderie, the calmness of the crew in such adverse weather, getting tossed around, to just be there in case someone needed you had a huge affect on me. I was weathering a different life storm, one that was eating my lunch. My health went to crap, my mental abilities were at point zero. Watching you took me to another place in my head, and made me realize that if you can do that, I could get a hold of mine. So, I retired, I went back to what I love best, farming, raising small animals, gathering eggs, gardening, building fences... now, both my mental and physical health is returning. It's taken a while, but I also now have a UA-cam channel. It's growing. Life is good. Thank you for sharing your adventures! Its done a ton for me.
@@thetrinityfarmproject-xf2di Thank you so much!
All the best to you and thank you for your great videos!!

Thanks for the videos, I spent a fair biit of time ar sea in the galley. Would do it all agin if I could. Changed days now though, and not for the better in some instances. Enjoy your new adventures ashore.
Thank you very much.

Enjoy yer retirement Graeme --fine ti see Oor Albert one last time... just realised I've already watched this twice lol
Thank you, Linda. More of Oor Albert to come 😉

We film some of the largest waves ever caught on camera.
We work with 2 North Sea oil platforms that can accurately measure wave height so no guessing or exaggeration.

What was your shop name? And do you ever go past the north end of Skye? I take photos of ships passin there :p
This is the Grampian Contender. I’m afraid we never made it to the west coast 🙁
@@Bigwavemaster1 ah darn, so many large vessels go past the most northern point of Skye. Wondered if I had inadvertently photographed you passing by.
Will Albert ever retire? Or is he planning to die and have his funeral while on shift too? Or is he just immortal and will continue to keep that seat warm for all eternity?
Whenever someone has said that they want to come on my watch I have replied “You’ll have to prize it out of Albert’s cold dead hands”. But I’m not there any more so we shall see 😂
@@Bigwavemaster1 Albert may have promoted himself to your chair now!
@@HughzieTube I think that would be a bit out of his comfort zone 😂😂
WHAT
I'm afraid that it's the end of a era.
