    This is a tutorial on how to make ear wires in four different styles. If you want to skip ahead to any individual ear wire tutorial the times are:
    Basic Ear Wires- 1:01
    Round Head Pin Ear Wires- 4:16
    Rustic Wrapped Ear Wires- 5:38
    Crystal Fish hooks- 8:17
    I used 22 gauge wire for all the styles and 4mm swarovski crystals for the crystal fish hook ear wires as well as 28 gauge wire for wrapping the coils. The length of the wire can be adjusted to your specifications and all wires can be hammered as I show in the first part of the tutorial.

    Hi Denise, just want to make a quick comment to tell you that I think you're a MARVELOUS teacher! When I got sick last year, my ENT asked me, "... can't you do something else to be creative rather than paint?" I started making jewelry and found your videos INVALUABLE! Thank you so much... really appreciate YOU!

    Hello. This is the 1st time I've seen your work. It's great to see how you create the earing wires, really clear & concise. I bought a hammer & block to do this & many other types of wrapping but it's been months & I have only tried one piece. I think the book I have is great but "seeing" how to do things is much better (for me)! I might now feel more enthused to try wrapping & hammering again. Thank you so much for helping me as I truly want to build up my knowledge. So I can hopefully, in the future, make to sell. It's a tough thing to create pieces that are different but wrapping etc certainly seems the way to go. I would like to know how to file the ends so will have a look to see if you have a tutorial. Ty again for sharing your skills! Caroline. :)

      inspiredcaroline24 thanks for the idea, I'll make a video on how to file and finish earwires and jewelry pieces soon. I agree, I have many jewelry books but sometimes I can't figure out what they mean and need to see it in a video. Thanks for your input and good luck with your creations:) Denise

    Hi seek wisdom,
    I'm not exactly sure what your question is, but if you're saying that hammering wire hardens and makes your projects more stable, you're right. But having said that, hammering is not the only way to wire harden, you can also use wire straightening pliers to wire harden as the more you "work" the wire the harder it gets. Hope this is helpful :)Denise

    Just as a point of interest, I prefer to use a much smaller pen as a mandrel, because I’ve never bought earrings with the wires as large as the sharpie makes them, although it seems to be the standard size for most diy designers. Your work is very pretty. ✨💖✨

    Hi Denise,
    I would like to know how to make the hook, loop, & how to attach leather cord?
    I think o have mastered the loop? But, I can't seem to get the hook?
    I have been using 20 gauge wire. Is that the best gauge, for the wrapped ends?
    I have tried using 18 gauge. But, I'm new at wire wrapping.
    I had trouble handling the wire.
    Thanks,
    Francine Schmidt

      18 g wire might be a little too heavy I would probably use a 20-22 gauge because it’s easier to manipulate. Good luck with your project 😊

    Hi I love your video! Can artistic silver wire be hammered,do you know?? Will the copper come through and the non tarnish come off?

    • @DeniseMathew
      @DeniseMathew  5 років тому

      Some Artistic wire has a plastic like coating that doesn’t hammer well, I don’t usually like it for that reason. But you can try a small piece and see how it goes. I really like Beadsmith wire for projects that are hammered. Hope this helps 😊

    Pls let me which wire u r using n where I can find out.for making earrings

    • @DeniseMathew
      @DeniseMathew  8 років тому +1

      Hi and thanks for your question. I used 22 gauge dead soft wire for all the projects in the tutorial. As far as what wire to use, you can use any type of wire that you want to between 20-22 gauge, generally I like to use sterling silver or at least silver filled wire for ear wires because they go through the ears and cheaper wire can cause irritation. I usually buy my wire at beadaholique.com or artbeads.com(I'm not affiliated with either company, this is just my personal choice.) they both have coupons off sometimes and I like to buy when there's a deal. Both places have several types of wire to fit everyone's budget. I hope this helps, :) Denise

    hi, where find true wire silver 925 a good price please ? Thank you !

    • @DeniseMathew
      @DeniseMathew  8 років тому +1

      +Logan Gab Thanks for your question. I usually buy my sterling silver wire from beadaholique.com or artbeads.com. I normally buy my wire when they have sales or promotions, if you join their mailing list you will get a heads up on all their sales. I am not affiliated with either company and this is my personal opinion. They usually sell the wire by the foot or by the ounce and you can buy it according to your needs. Beadaholique also sells fine silver 99.9% which is great for soldering or when you are using a torch but it no better than 925 for wire wrapped project. They also sell the wire by gauge and hardness, if you need more information on what that means here's a link to a questions answered video on gauge and hardness of wire.

    Hi,
    What temper should the wire be for ear wires?

    • @DeniseMathew
      @DeniseMathew  9 років тому

      Hi Rick,
      Thanks for your question. I usually use dead soft to medium hard for most projects and if the design or project requires a "harder" wire then I wire harden it with my wire straightening pliers or by hammering. If you wanted to do this project without hardening the wire then a half hard wire will work but keep in mind that it is less forgiving and will break easier than a softer temper if it's overworked. Thanks again for your comment and I hope this is helpful, :) Denise

I'm trying to learn to make my own ear wires but I get really flustered and constantly have to pause and rewind. As I said, she's great and is a wealth of knowledge. I want to learn from Denise but I it's really hard to follow when she goes at a lightning quick pace.
