  • Given the mild winter we had this year, I'll be shocked if my hardy banana HASN'T survived! What a disappointment that would be. I love big leaves for the drama and tropical energy they add to my small space garden. I find that big leaves - whether from canna, colocasia or hardy banana - are an excellent way to spice up a midwestern garden. Position them next to plants with small leaves to really play up the size. Throw in some bright colored perennials and you have a perfect recipe. I love the way perennial hibiscus looks with hardy banana!
Hi there! My name is Heather and I garden in zone 5B, recently changed to 6a, in the southwest suburbs of Chicago on a small residential lot. My garden lives a whole lot larger than it is and I love sharing tips and tricks, as well as plenty of mistakes, with others who love to play in the dirt.

Thanks for sharing your tips! We’re excited to add our hardy banana to the backyard. Hopefully ours performs as well as yours does 🤞

I don’t see why it wouldn’t, unless it’s in a really exposed area and we get a ridiculously frigid winter. Can’t wait to see yours progress. Perfect spot next to the pool!
