  • When it comes to planting in raised beds and grow bags, you can fudge quite a bit on plant spacing. With such limited space, who has the luxury of two-foot row spacing? Those spacing recommendations on seed packets are meant for in-ground growing. Let me show you how I plant American Flag leeks I grew from seed in my raised bed. Their location in the garden will benefit the berry bushes they're planted between too.
As for the potatoes, you might be surprised at just how much you can pack into a 15-gallon SmartPot grow bag!

Hi there! My name is Heather and I garden in zone 5B, recently changed to 6a, in the southwest suburbs of Chicago on a small residential lot. My garden lives a whole lot larger than it is and I love sharing tips and tricks, as well as plenty of mistakes, with others who love to play in the dirt.

I have about 1/2 acre dedicated to my personal garden. I forgot how much you can fit into a small space. You are rocking it! I wish I could grow lettuce & chives here in Texas, they bolt even in the winter.

What type of soil do you use for the potatoes? And fertilizer? Your garden looks so nice. I live close to you in Manhattan so we are the same zone!

Hi Dennis! Some varieties can be treated as perennials but mine will be harvested in November, maybe even a little later.
