Double side tape makes more sense, but I like anything Jeff has to offer...the guy is so smart and knows his stuff. I take this as he has an idea that you might want to use, but you don't have to if you don't want to. We are lucky to have Jeff offering his knowledge, that's the most important thing, period. Thank you Jeff...I'm going to use the screw idea because I use all your tricks and so far I'm batting 1,000!

Stainless cable tie, never had a problem. No holes for resale.

Use a pipe clamp or metal zip tie that will hold better than a nylon zip tie. What's the point of having a swingarm guard just to drill a hole in your swingarm?

I've been doing it this way for a while. it works just fine. No matter what you do to try and help someone, there always those that will say you are wrong....This way works and there's nothing wrong with it. If you think you have a better way then by all means take the time and effort to make the video to help fellow riders!

I use double stick tape along with the two zip ties, I have not lost one since going to the tape.

I had this happen to me when I first started using these a few years ago. I found using black metal zip ties (you can find them on ebay or amazon) solved the issue. Never had one come off since. The nylon ones will get ripped off or broken by rocks flying up or rubbing against something like Jeff was saying.

Yes, stainless steel zip ties work well. I do it this way because I think it looks cleaner and is less expensive.

Clean the surface add some silicone calking and install. Keeps the mud and dirt from getting behind and adheres the plastic to the arm along with the zip ties. Would not be a fan of drilling holes into the swing arm though agree it isn't going to weaken it.

Im just going to do two bead-lines of silicone lines.
Guards are as cheap as buying a carton of eggs/plastic surgical gloves.

Jeff I'm appalled! I will trim off the front few inches of the right side same one you were working on to prevent it from rubbing on the brake master cylinder! You put a freaking screw head sticking out there! I don't totally hate the small hole in the swing arm for the screw, but that will get stripped with a few removals for cleaning.
I know you have been riding almost twice as long as I have even been alive but I'm majorly disagreeing about this. You said it works for you, but with my again more limited experience this just doesn't make sense.

      Andre:
You are WAY off track. There is NO need to trim the guard because there is over 1/2" of clearance for the guard and the screw. Maybe you are working on an old Hodaka because KTMs have plenty of clearance and do you really think KTM would make the guards so you would need to trim them a "few inches"? Really?
The screws have not stripped (never will) and I take them off after mud rides for cleaning.
Please check your helmet size. It must be too tight.

Here's one example of smart people doing stupid things 😂 definitely don't need to drill into your swing arm and definitely never use the zip ties that come with it! Use thicker stronger zip ties! Problem solved!!

    • @slaverace1
      @slaverace1  3 роки тому +3

Whoa cowboy. Nothing stupid about it. It's quick and simple and works well. Thicker plastic ties also break/fail on the trail. Stainless steel ties work but not as clean.

I can’t believe you use Dwalt tools, I thought you were smarter than that. Gosh!
