I had no idea that taking care or curly hair was such an adventure! It's mind blowing to me how a curly haircut can end up costing 300-400$. As a person with straight-ish hair, I enjoyed watching your video and it inspires me to take better care of my hair, too! :)

Can we talk about a routine for the days after washing? What do you do through the night and how do you style it the next morning? I found the perfect routine, but its never nice the day after having washed my hair...

I cannot stress this enough; satin/ silk bonnets are your friend. I useone for my hair overnight and it really helps keep it frizz free. If you don't like one style try a few different kinds and see what you prefer. When my hair is super crazy sometimes I'll use a loose hair tie (one of the spiral ones) to pull my hair together very loose so it can fit under the bonnet.
I've also fallen in love with curl oils. I use one every morning to keep my hair from frizzing as much and it really helps preserve the definition. I personally don't have any recommendations. I just bought a really cheap one at the drug store to try out and im loving it. When I'm done with this bottle I'm going to look into a more sustainable brand.

TIP: To make my shampoo/conditioner bars last longer, I only put them in the shower when I’m actually in the shower. My partner does his own shampoo thing, and I find that when the shampoo bars are in a wet environment they soften and erode away quickly. When the shampoo bars dry out in between uses, they last a lot longer. 🌎💦Ⓜ️ary🙋🏻‍♀️

Ecoslay has bigger quantities of product than most brands than most (which means less packaging waste cause it lasts longer and you buy less), it’s natural and a small black owned brand, and they package the ingredients in thin squeezy like bags, which uses up less plastic. You can buy glass gars from them if you want to store it in something.

There are a lot of curly hairstylists who cut hair when wet- if that happens to you don't be worried because 9 time out of 10 that person is very experienced in wet cuts! Some will say don't do it dry because it might be uneven next time you wash it, some will say don't do it wet because it will dry uneven but if they are a good curly specialist they will take the time to get to know your texture and how it will dry once wet :)

Tip to thicken flax seed gel : let the seeds infuse in the boiled water after the gel has formed. I let the whole mixture cool down before straining the seeds, it results in a thick gel. Naptural85 recipe works perfectly. 😊

LUSH finally has an Afro (& Curly) Hair Care section! Their curl creme is called Curl Power, and it comes in a recycled pot that you can return to the shop once it's empty (they give you a 50p discount and recycle it again). I think I have similar hair to you, and it works really well on my curls.
P.S. I'd recommend brushing you hair when there's conditioner in it, so the brush slips through rather than snags. Also, you can reduce frizz by putting a tiny bit of oil on your fingers when separating the curls and fluffing it. Your curls look beautiful though, so your routine must be working, just thought I'd share tips that work for me xxx

Product manufacturing is powered by Aveda’s solar array and/or wind energy through renewable energy credits and carbon offsets. Striving to achieve a Silver Zero Waste to Landfill certification using the UL scheme by end of 2021 at our primary manufacturing facility. Pioneered 100% post-consumer recycled PET packaging in beauty. Hair care is 90% naturally derived on average using the ISO standard. From plants, non-petroleum minerals or water.

Actually, recycled plastic packaging is one of the best options for sustainability! It's the equivalent of buying secondhand clothes, but even better! We want more companies to start using recycled plastic, so that they will stop making virgin plastic. As long as we as consumers are making sure it keeps getting recycled, that's one of the best options.

    • @fibromiteready2fight809

    • @jessicasantos6690
      @jessicasantos6690 3 роки тому +1

@@fibromiteready2fight809 it's true that our recycling system is quite broken, and we can only do so much. However, it costs companies more money to use recycled plastic than to get virgin plastic. This is because there isn't a high enough demand for it. So much plastic gets thrown out because there's not a large enough market for it after consumer usage. By supporting brands who are using recycled plastic, we are creating a demand for it which should result in less plastic being thrown out.

You can get these little packets with powder from Malibu C that remove all the build up. They work really great but are sadly not very sustainable - and are also expensive in the long run. But they are great if you need to ‘reset’ your hair. Some people find that an apple cider vinegar rinse works to keep the minerals at bay. I have personally started to rinse my hair as the last thing in the shower with water where I have added a little citric acid to give the water a pH of 4. I honestly have no idea if it works but I hope it at least won’t hurt my hair since I have been careful with the pH 🤷🏻‍♀️ But I feel ya! My hair was much easier to care for when I lived with soft water..

@@Stuffings00 I actually stopped using shampoo completely 9 years ago once I realized my scalp is allergic to it. I used to have insane itchiness the day after washing my hair my whole life until I stopped using it.

@@mathildelonborg yeah using a diluted acidic rinse is key! I stopped using shampoo about 9 years ago and have only been using baking soda and vinegar ever since. I did try a shampoo bar a couple times but they left too much buildup in my very fine textured hair. But the vinegar rinses do help -- definitely can't skip that step!

@@TM.BECK14 I can see how it will be hard to do anything about it if you’re not using shampoo - except maybe a water filter for the house and that’s expensive 😅 I am a bit envious that you can go without shampoo but that would sadly never work for my hair or scalp. My first shampoo bar didn’t work for my hair at all so it is definitely trial and error. But if you can go without it completely even better. I have not found a single shampoo bar that have chelating agents (that’s what can remove mineral build up) in them anyway so I don’t think they would help much except clean your hair more throughly so that you wouldn’t have to wash it as often. But I hope you get your curls back some day!

I wish there was a leave in conditioner or deep conditioner concentrate kinda like what Ethique has. Like it comes in a bar or powder so no plastic and u add water to make it into a cream. I’ve honestly considered cutting my hair short cuz ion wanna buy products in stupid plastic bottles that Ik my hair will just drink up in like a week. Currently I’m using a refillable conditioner as a leave in and I’m no longer washing my conditioner out in the shower. My hair gets shrunken and tangled in about an hour or two. I’m really struggling man any suggestions would be really really appreciated like tattoo ur name on my ass appreciated.

Flax seed gel didn't work for me either. It really did hold and that was great but my hair is dirty blonde but for some reason it made my hair look wet and greasy. So yeah my mom hated that so I stopped using that.

I have real fine, straight hair. If I make a spray with salt and apple cider vinegar it works. A conditioner bar would be too much.

I don’t think it is, it’s less common but people straighten so much it’s not as rare as it seems. Saying that, you never know!

I love a curly hair cut! I will say, I prefer a Ouidad cut (wet cut) to a dry cut because my curls tend to be all over the place and they need to be forced into some sort of uniformity.
