These guys should probably know better to plug their trucks in and with having the heaters as well so when she's really a cold winter day, then she'll start nice and strong for ya!
It seems that many of these trucks have had engine modifications and either re programming of the ecu or a chip added. There seems to be some severe over fueling issues.
Cummins also, until recently, had the ECU programmed by default to have the injectors wide open below certain temperatures until the engine reached a suitable idle. The large rev followed by hunting for a small amount of time is fairly typical behavior.
All 12V's are mechanically injected, these have p-pumps from factory or have had one swapped in. This pump has static timing, and doesn't flow full fuel at start up (emissions regulations). I'm also guessing they have their timing advanced and big injectors, both of which don't help cold starts.
These owners have their trucks all jacked up! I'm fires right up, and yes I live in a cold climate. These trucks would be left at home in the barn!! Lol
I have 2 trucks for this and other reasons. I don't have power to my diesel for a block heater and don't want the wear and tear on it for short drives or cold weather.
