Different time and a different age. Remember - where ever the Army goes, the pongos.

my dad was in a reserved occupation during most of the war and didn't
get called up until near the end, he served in the signals in sicilay as
far as i know, photos show him and his mates with motorbikes so i
imagine he was a courier, if anyone can point me in the direction of the
signals in sicily towards the end of the war that would be great.

The 70s are a bit of a blur now but I thought that show was '71, just after I got married, my wife and I ran a side show in one of the tents, also, I thought the signals left Norton in '77.

My father was CO of the White Helmets 1972-74 and we lived up in Catterick.
It's such a shame the display team no longer exists.

Should have had more AAC band showing instead of 2 seconds. I'd been at plenty of shows etc.. where the regular band was also playing but we had a bit more clout including the pipeband. (71-73 AAC)

I was AAC Pipe Band Drum Major '68-'71. It was a great bands. Pipe Band always went on first for Passing Out Parades. Butlins & U. S base in Yorkshire for 4th July & also Sgt Mess do' s. Funny we never done Officer's Mess. We done Gala's & Earls Courts Tournament with Mass Band. A huge undertaking, went in & barely 50 people. Have seen clips of the bands in 80s & its barely half the size. We would do a Mass Band around the Married Quarters too which pleased the wifeys'. Memories...

@@williambuchan4778 Yup I did the 4th July as well I was a 71C so just missed you leaving hehe. USAAF put on a great BBQ.. they know how to live properly hehe.. The band started to shrink after 73 when I left we had a good lot of 71C in as well so it may have been the C intakes leaving really shot it to pieces. Never did Earls Court but although Corps of Drums I did get ask to join the pipe band for their regular Luchon trip in 73.. as they had a dummy drummer and I always practiced with the pipe band drummers... never took it up but wished I had not too long after I left. All of the Open Days were good though in the Summer... Otley, Great Yorkshire Show etc..

@@rockywr hi. You were in pipe band? What did you play or the big stick. Did u have the same Pipey as me. Mine was ever so nice. I ended on Dec 70 then posted 602 Troop (SC). We four were the first four to be fm Harrogate, many followed some u will know prob. R u fixer or breaker, Tech/Op? So many of A/Ts couldnt play a thing then learnt pipes drums brass etc. Tho some came musically. We had one piper player recruit, rest novice. Ok names, tho u wud be a sprog these some senior a/ts nco. Ok McMahon, Copley, Appleyard, Molyneux, Jackson, Raine, tommy baldwin, paddy creighton, garry shreeves & more, they all came to 602 late 71-73ish. Jerry hollihead (beatnik, dead, moly dead) my band era had our mass band & actual proper r. Sig band doing a huuuuge one mass band parade at Catterick, special & took some doing, a squad of drum majors! The new harrogate looks like catterick. Did u see tv doc series chan5 hgate training. They get a £1,000 a month. Clear!! On first month too. Shocking but its tempting to recruit. I wud rejoin but now live on a disabled war pen. 602 was special. Worc. Works with GCHQ. So we were half civvies. Went to Nassau Bahammas for 1yr, cyprus same, cud not believe we finished work 1330!! Lot of drinking. NI too & this & that. Ok thats it mate.

@@williambuchan4778 I wasn't in the Pipe Band but Corps of Drums... I was invited to join them in 73 after our grad for the France trip but I said no thanks at the time. They had a new drummer that couldn't drum so he was a 'dummy' but, I practiced outside with the pipe band drummers as well as our Corps of durms but I still kick myself up the backside each time i remember it and not going with them.
