Covering two ftx crusader 80 and Lionheart 84 Lionheart saw first deployment of challenger1 (shir 2) on test with the armored reserve. Happy days i was on both loved every minute.
I was gobsmacked to see Chally 1 in 1980!!!!!I was on Crusader, and hadn't even heard of Challenger!!Well spotted.I got out in 81,so never served on Chally
Took part in both Lionheart and Crusader. One thing we found, the closer to the IGB we got the more pleased the locals were to see us, they knew what was on the other side!
I was there. 1 SQN. HAC. The correspondent Christopher Wain talks about the Savesa (?) Gap being a choke point for invading orange forces. This was a name I heard a lot at the time, although I’ve never been able to find it on a map because I don’t know the spelling. Can anyone help?

Sad.
I was part of that as a regular soldier when I was based in Germany.
This is 1984, this type of VW at 2.55 didn't exist until 1983

'SIBBESSE' Gap. It's in the area of Hildesheim in Niedersachsen. I was often there too (as a Regular) from the late 70's to 80's!
The last years of GB having a pair, and an army to back it up when Ivan comes over to play.
10:28 WWII veterans marching. A rare sight now in 2022.

Having seen how the Russians are performing in Ukraine, I think we were a bit over concerned with the threat.
The threat was 3rd Shock Army and they were very professional.
