Johnny Strides that's the smartest decision a person can make, buying outside of Canada, in a tropical climate, where the ppl are very welcoming and friendly
Congrats Johnny! very nice apartment. You were promoting Canada and Toronto for many years and end up moving to Thailand. 🙂Frankly you have good reasons why. Hope you enjoy your new home but don't forget about Toronto. 👍
Greetings from Westlake Ohio Wow--Did not see this coming---Congratulations---Fabulous--luxurious What a glorious view--+you certainly worked hard enough and earned it 👏‼️😎
Reminds of the April 1st that the Toronto Sun had a huge headline on the front page that the Leafs had made a trade for Guy Lafleur. I almost fell for that back then and now today you almost got me again!
Great video! You totally had me until the very end. The two trips to Thailand totally made sense for something like this! Although I couldn’t figure out why you wouldn’t just do a one year rental lease instead. Lol
Dude you are living my dream. i am so freaking strapped in to canada atm its gonna be another 4 years before i can bail. Right now looking to buy in the Jomtien region. i cant move out now but I am looking to buy a pre construction unit. Anyhow enjoy your stay.
Wow i never think Thiland is so clean and this condo is really nice as nice as the ones in Canada....well you know what Canada is becoming very expensive to live so thats great you did this, you have to do what you have to do to get a place to live in...beautiful place good for you i love the rooftop awesome.
Alright Johnny Strides you almost made me want to relocate from BALTIMORE CITY (USA) to THAILAND. My stomach was doing crunches saying go for go for it. WOW you got me right there. But one day very soon I am going to visit THAILAND maybe the year 2026 being close to retirement for me
Congratulations for your success Johnny! Nothing but sunshine, beaches and a more affordable cost of living and an easier lifestyle compared to the cost of everything (food, transportation, utilities, groceries, restaurants, Netflix, Prime Video and HBO, WiFi, etc) in Canada. And a healthier choice of food in Thailand. I would have probably chose to pick a place in Koh Samui or close to Koh Phi Phi myself because of the nice beaches there. Stay safe and keep a sharp mind.
Smart! On the topic of affordable housing abroad, I hear rural houses in Japan are quite the steal. I know a few fathers who want to buy one as a vacation home.
Just got back from a 6 week exploratory vacation in the area..80k is correct for a 1 bedroom condo..Personally I prefer to rent..Similar condos for 500$ per month year lease..North America sucks, it’s the only way to go..Ever since I got back to Canada, I’m depressed with the prices of everything that is steadily rising..Today the new 23% so called carbon tax is in effect that will cause more havoc..
It's happening all over Europe too! Heading to Latin America or places in Asia is the best thing to do as the West and its economy push us out ! SEA is safer than most of Latin America though.
@@wrestlingterrier8366 Those who end up moving to other countries. Please don't bring along your liberal views and respect the culture of the place you're moving too. People don't like dealing with bad attitudes of foreigners.
Me and my wife plans to go back to my birth country Cambodia for my retirement in a few years time but I'm not going to buy I'm going to rent a condo try to get away from the winter cold in Toronto Canada from November to March and April we will be back to Toronto to see my childrens and grandchildrens by the way we live milton Ontario just outside of Toronto take care bye from milton Ontario Canada 🇨🇦
Damn, $80k???? That same place in downtown Toronto would set you back $400-500k! I live in downtown Toronto, and my monthly maintenance fee is $700/mo. It's crazy when you compare with other parts of the world. The Canadian housing market is stupid expensive. 😐 Looking forward to more content from your new life in Thailand!
Well we all know he’s not joking when he says the Canadian housing market is a joke! And probably be the smartest decision with the way things are headed over here….
Hiya Johnny, If it was an April fool, good one but if not I hope you have a nice life in Thailand, I've never been to Thailand but I've heard its really nice, this is Choppy in Whitehaven, Cumberland, England
Nice vid and April fools reminder. I have tried to migrate to other countries, including Thailand, But after a month, I had enough and comke back to TO. It is not easy to migrate, the grass always looks greener.
That is amazing under 80k for condo in tropical country. Can probably rent it out for people as cheap vacation getaway. If it was an April fools dang but you can really buy condo in Thailand for just under 80k and food isn't as expensive there as it is here in Canada. Average Condo Price: The average condo price in Ontario is around $729,005 (as of Q2 2024) Average Condo Price: The average condo price in Pattaya is around $3,000 per square meter (approximately $110,000 for a 36.6 sqm condo)
Congratulations! That is a great decision! However, i'd spend the second condo money on a parking spots in canada or something like that in downtown toronto/vancouver or a parking lot in a less expensive area and that way you can use the income to live in thailand full time. Thailand rainy season is great if you like heavy rain and quieter pattaya.
Congratulations on the new condo! I just bought a house out in Cobourg so I'm not looking to buy but how do you find a place like yours? What was the draw to Thailand rather than other places? (Assuming this wasn't a prank LOL) Heather xo
Good day, Beautiful Johnny Strides, wouldn't blame you if you did buy a condo outside of Canada what with the deplorable housing market in Canada, especially for young people! Much kudos to you if that is what you actually did! Cheers & keep yourself safe in Thailand!! 💖💖🦅🦅🦅🦅
very nice, try to get a quality like that in Toronto ...no way unless you pay millions. So well done and I think you will be making a lot of videos about Pattaya soon, it's a major American destination, so you will get a lot of traffic
I was briefly fooled but only briefly! This is a good one Johnny! Lol! Happy April Fools Day!! 🙂I remembered you had bought many years ago - I think I have that right?! You were in a relationship? But you got a Johnny rant in! It sounded like the norm! Lol! 🙂It sounds like a good idea though - good rationales for buying in Thailand!
I understand that if you rent out, it's tax free earnings for the first 150000baht/yr. So not only did you wisely get some of your assets out of Canada, you also converted from CDN$ and also get some of your assets to earn tax free.
New subscriber, also from Ontario ... thinking about doing the same thing. All of SE Asia is appealing ... Thailand, Philippines, Cambodia, Vietnam, Malaysia, Indonesia and Singapore are the countries focused in on. But the plus with both Thailand and the Philippines is that they both have communities - both expat and locals - actually playing ice hockey. In BKK, there's even an amateur men's rec league. Perfect! Can play the best sport in the world all while living in a tropical paradise. So don't forget to bring your hockey gear the next time you go to Thailand. Of course, the 2 hour commute each way from Pattaya might be an issue ... but I'm personally thinking about living in BKK instead. And if you do move there permanently - that is no longer paying taxes in Canada - don't forget to pay that exit tax Canada has ... basically all your assets (excluding RSPs, business incorporated in Canada and inherited items) are deemed to have been sold and reacquired the moment you leave and, as such, you have to pay 26.5% tax on the total value. You will also have to give up your OHIP too. But, health care is cheaper in Thailand than it is here AND you can get private care there, unlike Canada.
Thanks!
Thanks Dennis!

I totally agree 👍🏻 Thailand is beautiful 🤩 🎉 Congratulations 🥳
If you can work there and don’t mind leaving all your friends/relatives.
Thailand has a lot of issues. It’s not Utopia.
An April 1 joke that was easy on the eyes. I hope you all have a lovely spring in Canada 🇨🇦👏👋
-20C windchill in Montreal!
Johnny might like to enjoy the taste of durian next.
Welcome to south east asia..
You're a savage, Strides. I was going to say welcome to the club, but then I saw the comments and noticed the date.
If it's not an April fools joke, then it's the smartest thing you could have done! I'd say we'll done!!
Johnny, this was an awesome video. Well done. Definitely continue to highlight how insane our housing market is.
You nearly had me fooled, but not this time!😂
Confused--so-- no condo?

Okay, you got me for the first 15 minutes. Happy April Fool's Day. And BTW, maintenance costs in Etobicoke are around $850/month.

Kind of reminds me of a bit of Vancouver with the ocean next to downtown.

I bet most of the viewers are here for Toronto videos and live streams! If you move to Thailand, the views and subscribers will slow down a lot!
Smart! On the topic of affordable housing abroad, I hear rural houses in Japan are quite the steal. I know a few fathers who want to buy one as a vacation home.
Read the comments. I got fooled good! But something in me still wants to believe this wasn't a joke. Thailand is great.
Good April Fools joke, I wound up much more impressed with the building from the inside that from its first appearances from the outside!
Can you make a video on the buying process, and banking restrictions. I am thinking of doing the same.
You got me all worked up their for a min LOL
