Johnny Strides that's the smartest decision a person can make, buying outside of Canada, in a tropical climate, where the ppl are very welcoming and friendly
Congrats Johnny! very nice apartment. You were promoting Canada and Toronto for many years and end up moving to Thailand. 🙂Frankly you have good reasons why. Hope you enjoy your new home but don't forget about Toronto. 👍
Greetings from Westlake Ohio Wow--Did not see this coming---Congratulations---Fabulous--luxurious What a glorious view--+you certainly worked hard enough and earned it 👏‼️😎
I live in Barrie. I own a 4 bedroom detached on a ravine in a sub division. My land tax just went up to $9200.00 a year. 😮😮😮😮😮😮😮 When my gfs daughters out of university I'm selling up and probably heading that way.😊
Congratulations for your success Johnny! Nothing but sunshine, beaches and a more affordable cost of living and an easier lifestyle compared to the cost of everything (food, transportation, utilities, groceries, restaurants, Netflix, Prime Video and HBO, WiFi, etc) in Canada. And a healthier choice of food in Thailand. I would have probably chose to pick a place in Koh Samui or close to Koh Phi Phi myself because of the nice beaches there. Stay safe and keep a sharp mind.
Dude you are living my dream. i am so freaking strapped in to canada atm its gonna be another 4 years before i can bail. Right now looking to buy in the Jomtien region. i cant move out now but I am looking to buy a pre construction unit. Anyhow enjoy your stay.
Wow i never think Thiland is so clean and this condo is really nice as nice as the ones in Canada....well you know what Canada is becoming very expensive to live so thats great you did this, you have to do what you have to do to get a place to live in...beautiful place good for you i love the rooftop awesome.
Congratulations! That is a great decision! However, i'd spend the second condo money on a parking spots in canada or something like that in downtown toronto/vancouver or a parking lot in a less expensive area and that way you can use the income to live in thailand full time. Thailand rainy season is great if you like heavy rain and quieter pattaya.
Just got back from a 6 week exploratory vacation in the area..80k is correct for a 1 bedroom condo..Personally I prefer to rent..Similar condos for 500$ per month year lease..North America sucks, it’s the only way to go..Ever since I got back to Canada, I’m depressed with the prices of everything that is steadily rising..Today the new 23% so called carbon tax is in effect that will cause more havoc..
It's happening all over Europe too! Heading to Latin America or places in Asia is the best thing to do as the West and its economy push us out ! SEA is safer than most of Latin America though.

Great video! You totally had me until the very end. The two trips to Thailand totally made sense for something like this! Although I couldn’t figure out why you wouldn’t just do a one year rental lease instead. Lol
That is amazing under 80k for condo in tropical country. Can probably rent it out for people as cheap vacation getaway. If it was an April fools dang but you can really buy condo in Thailand for just under 80k and food isn't as expensive there as it is here in Canada. Average Condo Price: The average condo price in Ontario is around $729,005 (as of Q2 2024) Average Condo Price: The average condo price in Pattaya is around $3,000 per square meter (approximately $110,000 for a 36.6 sqm condo)
Damn, $80k???? That same place in downtown Toronto would set you back $400-500k! I live in downtown Toronto, and my monthly maintenance fee is $700/mo. It's crazy when you compare with other parts of the world. The Canadian housing market is stupid expensive. 😐 Looking forward to more content from your new life in Thailand!

Alright Johnny Strides you almost made me want to relocate from BALTIMORE CITY (USA) to THAILAND. My stomach was doing crunches saying go for go for it. WOW you got me right there. But one day very soon I am going to visit THAILAND maybe the year 2026 being close to retirement for me
Smart! On the topic of affordable housing abroad, I hear rural houses in Japan are quite the steal. I know a few fathers who want to buy one as a vacation home.
Reminds of the April 1st that the Toronto Sun had a huge headline on the front page that the Leafs had made a trade for Guy Lafleur. I almost fell for that back then and now today you almost got me again!
Hiya Johnny, If it was an April fool, good one but if not I hope you have a nice life in Thailand, I've never been to Thailand but I've heard its really nice, this is Choppy in Whitehaven, Cumberland, England

I understand that if you rent out, it's tax free earnings for the first 150000baht/yr. So not only did you wisely get some of your assets out of Canada, you also converted from CDN$ and also get some of your assets to earn tax free.
Congratulations on the new condo! I just bought a house out in Cobourg so I'm not looking to buy but how do you find a place like yours? What was the draw to Thailand rather than other places? (Assuming this wasn't a prank LOL) Heather xo
We work hard making Toronto more liveable. More homes, jobs, better streets, including bike lanes. What do we get for all this civic engagement most of us do for free? More want to stay and more want to move in. Then we need to start all over again. What is the solution? Let everything go to pot? What makes our population grow? It’s not actually that Toronto is so great. It’s because it’s better than places like Sudbury and North Bay. So the solution has two parts. Make these other places more liveable to draw people away from Toronto. But Johnny, you’re going the next step, hopping borders! When I was waiting to meet my brother at the airport I chatted with a guy fresh in front Mexico. He’s a Canadian who bought a home in a gated community in Mexico. Pool, etc. The cost of maid service is next to nothing. Something like $100k. Why wouldn’t he? He can rent it out when he’s away and it becomes an income property plus it pays for the mortgage.
I really was fooled until your final remarks! Hey, a quality apartment in a developing city like Bangkok sounds good! But the airfare between Thailand and Canada would be killer. 15 hour flight or more?
New subscriber, also from Ontario ... thinking about doing the same thing. All of SE Asia is appealing ... Thailand, Philippines, Cambodia, Vietnam, Malaysia, Indonesia and Singapore are the countries focused in on. But the plus with both Thailand and the Philippines is that they both have communities - both expat and locals - actually playing ice hockey. In BKK, there's even an amateur men's rec league. Perfect! Can play the best sport in the world all while living in a tropical paradise. So don't forget to bring your hockey gear the next time you go to Thailand. Of course, the 2 hour commute each way from Pattaya might be an issue ... but I'm personally thinking about living in BKK instead. And if you do move there permanently - that is no longer paying taxes in Canada - don't forget to pay that exit tax Canada has ... basically all your assets (excluding RSPs, business incorporated in Canada and inherited items) are deemed to have been sold and reacquired the moment you leave and, as such, you have to pay 26.5% tax on the total value. You will also have to give up your OHIP too. But, health care is cheaper in Thailand than it is here AND you can get private care there, unlike Canada.
