It's hard to get past the nostalgia of what you're used to. This new remix is clearly more modern. I love the songs, regardless of how they're listened to, but I find the new remixes a lot better. Also, the surviving members had to sign off on this new mix as well. Good breakdown and I enjoyed your video even if I don't agree with your conclusions.
I have actually now bought the deluxe vinyl box because I really wanted to compare the new mono mix to the original mono etc. I haven't even opened it yet let alone listened to it.
However I have now compared the stereo mixes over headphones which I am sure was a major factor in them doing this new stereo mix. I'll probably do another video on this. Glad you enjoyed the video and many thanks for your comment Todd.
The original mono sounds claustrophobic. I always want to open the window to get some fresh air.

Very pleased to hear your take, Dave. My appreciation for the Beatles starts at Sgt. Pepper's through Abbey. Being that this AAA remix is available for a short time, I really wanted to dig this. But alas, it's an iteration of the Beatles that doesn't grab me. I am thrilled that a AAA Beatles record was released in 2022, though. Thank you for your thoughtful analysis and impressions.
Hi Austin, this is most definitely not an AAA remix. They’ve even used Peter Jackson’s AI technology to unpick the original multi-tracks. I believe the box includes a new AAA mono mix. That’d be interesting, but £200 interesting to me: honestly, I love the original.

Enjoyed your review, I too got the remix today and was disappointed. The Mono version was always kind of 'dirty or loud' sounding which I like but the remix is a little too 'clinical'. Like you, I think younger people will take to it more as the Stereo mix did have some wide Stereo panning issues.
Thanks, yes, I'm sure this is primarily made for younger folk who primarily listen on headphones. I'm more than happy with the mono. I would be interested to hear the new mono mix, shame that's not available separately.

@@DaveDenyer The sad part is that the original stereo mixes get pushed to the background with these “remix” versions flooding the market. They don’t even label it as “stereo remix” so it basically replaces his father’s work…very insulting.
@@brianpgraves certainly for a while all I expect to see and hear about is the new Giles Martin remix, but hopefully in time it'll fade into the background, behind the originals which have been milestones of recorded art for the passed 56 years, and I am sure will continue to do so.

LOL, yes, definitely not AAA... I'm not sure how many times I'd play this new mix, but I do know I'd never get rid of my original mono, unless a better condition copy comes my way of course.
One can only wonder where Giles put the cymbals that used to be on the song she said,she said🤷

Its all about the beat? Thousands of bands have a great „beat“….Beatles is all about COMPOSITION, HARMONIES and MELODIES.
I won't argue with that, but I would also include the "beat": they played together like they were on rails.
With this album I could love a pressing done in Nigeria in 1959….

I think Giles Martin misses the point. That is especially true on a song like I'm Only Sleeping, which I think lacks the dreamy quality, where John's voice is unnecessarily brought forward in the mix in this new version. It's the cohesive sound that gives Revolver its power, and not necessarily the clarity. This new version is more clinical and lacks the original punch. Mono has always been my favourite, too. I also have an early pressing of the original album.

Great. I agree with you. This new remix does not beat the originals but I do like it even with the “flattening”. Yes loss of “real sounding” timbre of instruments…but the originals had a lot of processing too. I think they are just different presentations. Here are some other observations: 1. Listener is used to hearing things a certain way for 53 years/bias first time I listened I couldn’t stand it, 2. The remix/demux technology allows for a different display of the “performances” in the recordings. There are some crazy details in there that really peels back the covers and displays the actual unique instrument performances in a more “raw” state, 3. The original mixes have all sorts of studio trickery to “smooth” the edges of the recordings, compressions, limiters etc. the cake baked for mono is just a wall of sound in front of you, sounded processed back then too. I like the mono and the stereo original mixes but they do sound sort or muddled together a bit. The mono version of Tomorrow Never Knows being the shining example of an amazing recording. The current mono version provided in the package was quite good. Some think better than the 2014. To me mono sounds like a yellowed photograph oozing with imagery. 4. The new mix allowed for an “atmos” mix or the album. I have listened to the atmos mix in my AirPods Pro and it sounds fantastic. Yea not vinyl or analog. But retains most of the magic or the mono IMHO.
I also think they did this to do another round of archiving. Also Ringo, Paul had a hand in this. One last thing. Miles Showall cut this with his 1/2 speed mastering. Honestly, several these abbey road half speed masterings are crap. If they had Bernie Grundman or Kevin gray to cut it at normal speed the vinyl would have sounded better. The best way to consume this new mix is the atmos version. So yes…not as good? Definitely eye of beholder. I am glad we have it rather than not. Cheers! Love your channel.

@@DaveDenyer thanks. Yes. Jus relistened to the atmos mix. I love my vinyl. But this atmos gets you closer to that analog sound (using 2 channel headphones). The atmos mix sounds way more real than that Miles cut from Abbey Road. I have a few other Miles cuts but they sound terrible mostly. I think they did a disservice by using the 1/2 speed process for this release. I just picked up the Police 1/2 speed mastered greatest comp. Sounds terrible! If you want a cool episode get the Marley Exodus half speed cut and compare it to the recent Analog productions or even the Jamaican recent releases. See what you think. Also if you have the Who Tommy that has a half speed master. It sounds pretty good at first but compared to the classic records or other cuts…not so much. This may be a future topic for your videos. 1/2 speed mastering from abbey road vs others
Did they point out in this book Lennon's main involvement in the creation of Yellow Submarine and Harrison's authorship of the chorus for Eleanor Rigby? And who do they think is the main lyricist of Eleanor Rigby? What does it say about George Martin's participation in the creation of the Eleanor Rigby tune?
Hi Debessar, I didn't buy the vinyl box, just the new stereo mix LP because I mostly wanted to hear the new mix. So I don't have the book.
However from what I see on other videos the book does look superb, and the outtakes LPs are also tempting.

Interesting observations in your appraisal. From what I've heard, the more orchestral numbers benefit best from the remix. But there is a general lack of cohesiveness. What was a whole sound now feels like separates.

It would have been super cool if they had made reel tapes for this and a box set as the ultimate if you wanted to go the extra mile in price for it ..Maybe if it is as messed up as you say it is, maybe it should have been left alone ..I assumed you had the set with the MONO at first and was wondering if it is as as good as the original you have ..I heard some pretty bad reviews to more mid tier opinions .,but nothing great about it ,the stereo version that is
I'm pretty sure they did release a 7.5ips 4-track tape of this: they go for quite a lot of money, I've only got Abbey Road in this format.
I still haven't got around to playing any of the Deluxe box yet to be honest. I am keen to try new mono vs original mono. I'll probably make a video of that.
And to be fair to the new version, the original stereo mix is a bit weird; hence my preference for the original mono.
@@DaveDenyer CAPTIOL XDR STEREO CASSETTE still as I said before was THE BEST to me ..If you can find one in good condition , get it if you still have a cassette deck ..You probably have mostly Parlaphone there I reckon and maybe they have the XDR format but who knows how old they are now since cassettes had their last days in the 2000s and the tape used in the XDRs were known to get a bit stiff but they can be brought back from a certain treatment method ..
Hi Dave - I haven't heard this Giles Martin version. My main trouble with most remasters is that they often don't sound like a BAND anymore - but sound a little bit to "nice". Is this also something you have noticed maybe. (I usually don't like that the comments is not 100% regarding to the video topic - but I just for once have to mention Rickie Lee Jones cover take on "For No-One")

The new Mono mix in the deluxe box is worth the price of the boxset, It is supposed to be the original 1966 mix, You must compare the original Sterio mix with the 2022 mix. I don't believe you can improve upon the original mono, because that's what the Beatles signed off on.

What on earth have they done? To me this release is just a cash in. Is the new production all analogue? A 45rpm cut from the mono master might've been better.

@@dmd7472 I assume you have the original version (not Giles Martin's remix), In my opinion I'd suggest you find an old original copy, mono or stereo. There were so many copies sold you shouldn't have to pay too much for one, maybe buy both (mono and stereo).
