Autumn at the Swedish COTTAGE | COZY Vibes in Sweden 🇸🇪

  • After weeks of lockdown in the UK, I was finally able to visit my Swedish cottage, as autumn crept across the country.
    In this video I share the autumn or fall colours in Sweden, my family and I celebrate Kanelbullens Dag - Cinnamon Bun Day (or Cinnamon Roll day) - join me on a walk along the shores of beautiful Swedish lakes ... as well as visiting beautiful Dalarna county further north.
    Every time I spend time at my cosy stuga, I'm learning to adapt to life's changes, to live a slower life and appreciate the smaller things - as well as the opportunity to be surrounded by nature.
    Apologies for my Swedish accent - I am working on improving my Swedish! Also, I realise that I only show forest tracks (which I love driving on) in this video - which doesn't do justice to Sweden's roads, which are really good!

      Yup we’ve been told that all our lives here. Made to go outside regardless of how bad the weather was when we where kids and if we complained we where always told that saying. ”There’s no bad weather, just bad clothing”, allthough it sounds a lot better in swedish. 😀
      I didn’t like it then but I do now as an adult, and one day I will - hopefully - get to say that to my own kids.
      And the saying IS true. You can have so much fun in rain and snow if your suitably dressed.
      Oh and I like your videos, keep it up!

    You are a lake hunter ☺️ They call Finland The Country of Thousand Lakes (De tusen sjøers land), but Sweden actually have more lakes than Finland. Maybe the Country of Two Thousand Lakes 😂 I am a Norwegian having a cottage by another lake, and in your videos you really catch what is unique in having an old, red, simple cottage (torp or stuga) in Sweden.
    We are not that far away from each other, and if you would like to go mushroom hunting together later this year, I would love to meet you in a forest, by any lake.
    Anyway, keep up producing beautiful videos. When the lockdown is over again.

    Nygrens café in Alingsås is, in my opinion, the nicest one in this little town. And there are a lot or cafés there. Nygrens café has also a very good reputation far outside Alingsås. I live west of Gothenburg, approx. 1,5 hours from Alingsås, and a trip to Nygrens is so worth it. The interior with the old mixed furniture combined with newly baked cookies, kanelbullar and cakes is so cozy and relaxed compared to a modern café in Gothenburg city.

    -what was your knowledge of Sweden before buying your cottage, it seems like you were familiar with the country before buying?
    - can you take us through your process of finding and purchasing
    - can you speak Swedish?
    -is your cottage warm?

    In Brisbane, Queensland, Australia the saying ‘no such thing as bad weather, just unsuitable clothing’ couldn’t really apply here because it is soooooo HOT and HUMID for at least 6 months of the year that even if you walked around naked you’d still be sweating like a pig and get cooked alive from the scorching sun - as does all the vegetation... if it’s not burnt to a cinder then it’s brown and dead for months on end... you are unbelievably lucky to have a home in the northern hemisphere, especially in Scandinavia which is just breathtakingly beautiful with it’s short summers and 4 seasons - in Brisbane we only have HOT and Humid and not so hot... I especially stayed in Europe for 6 months to escape our neverending, relentless, hot, humid summers so I could experience a real Autumn and a real winter, I LOOOOOOVED it soooo much I cried buckets when I had to come back to Australia and was sooooo sad for at least 12 months afterwards because I would soooo love to live in Europe...

    Dear Jennifer. Thanks for another lovely video. You are an excellent videographer and your voice is very soothing, I felt transported to Sweden and enjoyed the weather and the landscape with you. I am fascinated by your wood burning stove. How often do you use it for cooking or heating? How early in the morning do you light it?

    • @JenniferCarterWriter
      @JenniferCarterWriter  3 роки тому

      So glad you enjoyed it Francisco. There is a wood burning stove in the sitting room, which is for keeping warm, but we haven’t been able to get the oven stove to stay lit yet, so no oven for the moment.

    I have Swedish heritage, as well as Norwegian. My favorite part of your video is when you are walking through the water, stating that your grandmother grew up there. It was timeless...like a walk through a cemetary. Just breathtaking. (I'm measuring my life!) And by the way...how was that blueberry??

    • @JenniferCarterWriter

      What a wonderful heritage to have. The blueberry was very special

      Wild blueberries are much tastier and contain healthier nutrients.

    If you like kanelbullens dag you should visit Göteborg and go find cafè husaren. Order a Hagabulle. Bring your family and share just one bun - you will likely all leave full!

    Don’t know how long you plan to stay in Sweden but I highly recommend getting some merino wool underställ, from like kari traa or other brands (I know kari traa is in Sweden). You can normally get these from stadium etc, it will keep you warm and cozy :)

    I first saw one of your Spoken Word videos which I really enjoy. Thennnn I saw the Sweden ones and just love them. The decision to buy the cabin was a great one. Till I saw this one, I didn't know you had a connection to Sweden, but even if you didn't it is such a great place to ground yourself. We just had our Thanksgiving here in Canada and I was wondering if you have a video on Giving Thanks.

      So glad you enjoy the spoken word videos Mary. I’ve got something a little bit different coming in the next couple of weeks, so look out for that. At the moment, I don’t have a video on giving thanks, partly because we don’t have any holidays which are about giving thanks (other than Remembrance Day, which is giving thanks in a different way)

    The lingonberries you saw could actually be Mjölon or Mjölbär in Swedish , I think they are called Bearberries in English.

    • @JenniferCarterWriter
      @JenniferCarterWriter  3 роки тому

      I tried to look online, but I really couldn’t work it out, I also some saw some other type of berries which were more yellow and in groups, but I didn’t know what those were either! Hopefully by the end of next summer, I will know a lot more!

    Love your videos! One small suggestion, just my opinion, but maybe consider getting rid of the music. I don't think it really adds much and the sound of the environment would be so nice to hear.

      Thanks Jonathan - That sounds like a good idea when I’m filming on my own, but when is the family there, there’s almost always conversation in the background! But yes, I will certainly try and work towards that, it’s a really good suggestion
