I saw that parents did that in their 2 story house boat.
A spiral staircase, would allow a toddler to climb to an unsafe height on the outside. In other words, even if a gate blocked the stair access at the bottom, it's still a danger due to places for little hands and feet on the outside.

I love the way many of these homes are clever and also so beautifully finished. I look at my own 95 sqm house and it seems not only spacious but full of possibilities for smart design that’s not only space saving but full of convenience.
For me, they also make me feel that it’s better to have a smaller house with a larger outdoor space, in opposition to what frequently happens where I live where people tend to cover the block with house and leave almost no space for outdoor living.

So sweet. Brings back so many memories for me. 20 years ago, when my husband and I were expecting our first child, we renovated a 750 sq. foot space for the three of us in an upper floor of his mom's house. It was a version of a "tiny" house 20 years ago. We had a kitchen, living room, bathroom and bedroom. Our son's crib was in our room. We had everything we needed in 750 sq. feet. But by the time our second child arrived, her cradle was in the living room, and we knew our time was short-lived. Eventually we had to move our family of 3 children into a 1475 sq. foot house, which we have now also outgrown as our children are young adults and each need a bedroom of their own (we have 3 bedrooms) ... but I love looking back at our "beginnings." At the time my friends who were having babies had big, beautiful nurseries to decorate and I felt a little left out, setting up a crib in our bedroom ... none of my babies had a nursery. But we have a beautiful and loving family and 20 years later, lots and lots of thankfulness. Congratulations, best wishes, and keep living your best life!

I have been wanting to build myself a tiny home, possibly off-the-grid, and maybe homestead. I got divorced in 2015 and I want to eventually create an easily manageable lifestyle with as few financial worries as possible-- like everything would be paid for, no utilities plus I would homestead and work out of my home. When I first became divorced, I was unemployed at that time and wound up homeless on a few different occasions. I lived without power for over a year and had trouble keeping myself fed. So I believe my desire to live simply and not have massive debts to pay, stems from that experience.
I actually love tiny homes. It is just me, my dog and cat (no kids or hubby) so a tiny home where I can homestead, have a fully equipped living space and work out of my house would be totally ideal for me.

Maybe it wasn’t by accident but to remind you of the true values in life. There’s a big difference between living with five other people vs. one other person. Also, when you grow up without much money, it’s easy to make earning money and having a lot of stuff very important in life. But it’s a reaction to the extreme situation that led you to think that way. When you choose simple living, you don’t feel forced. You want the freedom of simplicity vs. working so long and hard for material objects that are temporary.

Intentional living...what a great philosophy! Love your home and how you & your husband have customized so much to meet your unique needs. I'm sure it will be fun to continue to customize & evolve when baby comes. Enjoy & thanks for sharing with us!

Cute house, we have our children and their families living on our property as well. Its their own space but they are close to visit and be supportive. Great tour!

I wish more families would be like that. God made families for a reason and some Americans just don't take advantage of that.

Instead of renting apartments for years before having our kiddos I would have done this If we would have thought of it lol ☺️ we currently live in a 900sq foot house with 3 kids and one on the way and it’s great!

Living in a tiny home when theirs only two of you is perfect but once you start having children, it’s not ideal. You need room and more living space.

I live in an RV with 4 kids my husband and a giant poodle…. Our RV doesn’t have the loft. It’s 400 sq feet. We all have space. And it’s not cluttered. If it works for them, it works for them.

@@lyndamcdon someone wanting to look into your house isn’t gonna care if it’s on your parents property or not, in fact that makes it better that there aren’t public eyes. My uncle was a crime scene investigator for the FBI was decades and this is the perfect setup for a criminal. Off the road, away from the larger house, can know where the whole family is in the whole house because of the size, can see in easily.
