God. I wish sometimes that they wouldn’t completely change the character when they did that. When the first character redesign for flower dropped I was sad it changed but I was ok with it because it fit their purpose more and they were still recognizable. This is too extreme a change. They did the same thing with tone rion and I was equally upset. I liked tone’s og design more…
SAMME I still think she gives slight andro vibes and she really has a rei ayanami-esque kuudere aesthetic but I need the edge to come back. The v3 box art was a little less rockstar, which is why I liked the v4 better, but now its even worse. I like the clean look on vocaloids/cevios/whatevers that suit it, but flowers voice best suits harder music, meaning harder, rougher designs look more natural

this also happened with my favorite vocaloid (tone rion). her v4 design is cute and a good design but her new design changed a lot of her core features (eye color hair color etc) and it doesnt look like the same person

The blue, black and lavender colour scheme is JUST NOT her. They made her look so overly simple that now she almost looks like a character from a random slice of life anime. Plus, the dark purple and bright colours that match her just got taken away. This design honestly made me feel sad cuz she just looks incomplete and dull now...

The new design has a very sleek and modern look that seems to throw away the previous designs more rougher look. The reason the older designs have that look is because initially, Flower was made with rock music in mind, which is reflected in her first design (V3). My guess is that as time went on, Flower is demonstrated to be compatible with a wider range of music genres, so eventually, her design is changed so she doesn't appear to be exclusive to just the Rock genre . However, the newest design seem to get rid of her roots entirely, which is why she "doesn't look like Flower".
The change in colour palette from having purple as the main colour to blue is one of the first differences I noticed, but that isn't a big deal as even Miku's designs changed between varying shades of blue and green while still retaining her signature look.

It feels so different because there’s barely anything aside from the hair(though even I feel like its a bit smoother that what’s recognizable) that reminds the viewer that they are looking at a new Flower design. But it also makes me wonder why the purples were heavily toned down, it might be a stylistic thing though.

The design is actually pretty good the only thing that makes her "not like the actual Flower " is her light violet eyes they should've been dark purple
The things that bothered me is how she lacks purple and lacks asymmetry. She only have purple on her head and shoes, instead of her clothes. If you show people V3 and V4 flower they can tell the similarities between both. This flower design also takes the aspect of her big chunk of purple "strand" of hair( it looks more like the piece of her headset (which makes it look like a headphone)than hair, I had to double check it) and her hair lacks extreme messyness(her V3 and V4 have very messy hair that goes everywhere unlike her CEVIO)( this could be an artstyle factor)
Overall, I think the artsyle is the thing that bothered people. The artstyle differs from miwashiba's(V4 illust.;iconic flower)and yamako's(V3 illust.). Oguchi's artstyle is more "realistic";focusing more on shading than lines ; which is what miwashiba's and yamako's artstyle consist of. Lines.

Edit : also wanna point out how V3 flower very much have an androgene face despite looking feminine, the CEVIO flower doesnt have that
Edit again : I then analyzed gyroid flower(illustrated also by miwashiba, artstyle wise she looks different from her V4, but its only from the artstyle and i dont mind) dispite being more feminine, she still is recognisable because of these factors

She looks recognisable because of her having these aspects, which the cevio illustration lacks
Also, another similarity I found from the V4 and V3 is that they have a darker color pallete. Despite the GT illust having a lighter color pallete its still recognisable

For me it isn’t even that she isn’t as boyish as her prev design, it’s that her prev designs have always leaned pretty heavily into this… idk, kinda punkish, almost lolita, maybe visual kei style. It’s one of the things that rlly made Flower well. Flower. Regardless of if she was given a feminine, masculine or androgynous design. This design, while being decent from an objective standpoint, just. Isn’t very interesting, especially when compared to her previous iterations. It’s not bad it’s just kinda disappointing
flower seems to have gotten a pattern of changing a lot from one design to the next. my fav is still v4 (miwasiba just got the enby vibe so well man) but i dont think the others are ugly or completely out of vibe. its like the art style of the pokemon anime (?)
and tbh ive come to appreciate each artists take on flower. it kind of gives room for more variation, styles and potentially new people falling in love with one or the other design, hopefully more variate music to come too

Also it's a little transphobic that you're implying one has to be male-passing to have "enby vibes". Flower can be enby no matter what they look like. I am agender but I'm no less agender just because I have huge honkers.
Anyways, I'm not being judgmental; I just want you to be aware of the impact of what you're saying. As a non-binary person I'm quite sick of people assuming enbies have to look male-passing to count as non-binary. The whole point of being non-binary is that we are not tied to gender norms. Making every AFAB enby look like a man and making every AMAB enby wear a skirt only sets new gender expectations.
Aside from all that, I do agree that Flower's designs have all looked very amazing, and I love the variety as well. I am nostalgic so I prefer Flower's OG look, but they'll always look stunning to me.

The old flower gave off rockmetal vibes but the new flower feels more like pop vibes. And also her hair makes it all different. The old hair is spiky so it feels more rough tomboyish while the new one is more flowy .

As someone who is neutral on Flower, this design is pretty meh imo, like if this design was for a new character it would have looked nice, but for Flower it just doesn't fit her especially compared to her other designs.
True, Take example from V3 Flower (V3 is her old design). Even if her hairstyle and clothes are different, We still know that it's Flower (Because her eyes and hair color. The clothes is still giving us the flower vibes too).

Well, as I remember, people were actually excited about her V4 design. Yes, they misgendered her a lot, but they always were pretty warm and welcoming. Because V3 and V4 match well with each other you know.

That said, at least the V4 kept the general aura of the V3. This new design isn't bad, but boy is it outlandish compared to the previous ones

In this the hair color, overall palette and eye color has changed, (along with hairstyle and wardrobe) so either she got cosmetic surgery or she is into cosplay now.

It kinda feels like she was designed in Ikea, smooth, well constructed, balanced but industrial. She looks like she was designed to compliment rather than stand out as her own mascot. I love Ikea btw, but that’s a furniture company with a very rationalistic design philosophy. While synthetizers are quite a different concept. Besides, it us much easier to remember a character if their artstyle is also really unique. As they don’t have to just depend on cosmetics alone to stand out.
Then again as v-tubers in the industry have demonstrated, it’s usually more profitable and safe to have a more standardized look rather than something a bit more out there that people might be “adverse” to. This leads me to believe they are treating their characters more like a “team line up” rather than a “voice persona”. More like “buy our line of products” rather than a “concept demonstration”.
So what I’m getting at is that another reason why Flower might have received this style of redesign is due to updating her to a shift in the Industry from individual design to collective branding.
But that’s just a theory, A DESIGN THEORY.
