this was my favorite part of crystal. man this was so damn hard. i used Umbreon with toxic, curse, moonlight to get me through a lot of this. didnt know baton pass was that good of a move =nice.
Thank you for not replacing the in game audio with horrible music and for not giving stupid nicknames to your Pokemon. I remember as a kid beating this twice but with a Mewtwo I got from the yellow version. The difficulty on this was brutal.
Yeah I didn’t give much thought to a bunch of moves in Pokémon or having any non-damaging moves when I was young. When I got a load of the competitive Pokémon battling scene I was shocked
Oh, I get his strategy. He's just using Scizor to Baton Pass the Swords Dance and Agility boosts to either his Marowak or Aerodactyl depending on the context of the situation. And one of them will sweep the rest of the opponent's team. Clever strategy, maybe I'll try it out competitively.
@@32rush79 I agree, Baton Pass is one of the best competitive moves in gsc. U can turn a slow and powerful Pokémon into a really fast sweeper with the right prediction and ev investment.
I personally found the frontier leaders much easier when I finally got there in Gen 3 than this battle tower. I found getting to the leaders more difficult than the actual leader battle since the trainers were always placed in random areas. The leader battles have easy AI manipulation as well.
Battle tower is BRUTAL. Had to use high stat gimmicks like a 700HP Chansey, max stat Ho Oh, and a Lapras with lock on and horn drill to get streaks consistently.
I love seeing this and using this team in Gen 2 and 3 battle challenges. In competitive/Smogon OU this team isn't too common because each Pokémon has flaws holding it back but in game they have insane offensive power. Scizor was only a good stab and coverage move away from being one of the most broken Pokémon in the game.
Well, competitive a completely different world altogether, starting with the fact this 3v3 with Item Clause. If it weren't randomly generated teams, Curse Skarmory would completely wall these three mons. However, Skarmory is completely absent at Level 100 Battle Tower, plus in the other levels it's never seen running Curse. (Not to mention the Aerodactyl is a female, which means it has less than ideal Attack)
@@llSuperSnivyll you mean this Aerodactyl in the video is female? It is rather time consuming to sit and make a legit team. It (aerodactyl) is actually key for a cheap degenerate strategy in the low levels of Crystal Battle Tower. Thanks to the move Dragon Rage. Op made another video where they showcase that. Aerodactyl isn't terrible in Gen 2, but you could probably make more efficient use of the 3rd slot.
@@tylerd1297 The Aerodactyls I use on my channel are always female. I chose Aerodactyl because I like it and because there's only 1 Pokemon that can out speed it in this tower and that's Electrode. Jolteon and Aerodactyl have the same base speed but because I am maxed out in the stat department, I go first. You could use Machamp or Snorlax for a 3rd slot. I always use my favorites instead of the "right" Pokemon for whatever it is I'm doing
The dvs are less than perfect for attack as female right? As will always be and affect shininess as females are in lower att dv but what compensate? Higher def dv or speed ig?
It's so cool to see the first version of the Battle Tower! I always considered the Hoenn one to be the essential Battle Tower since Crystal is the only game in the series I haven't played (as a kid I owned Gold) but it's very interesting to see the 10 level intervals be the normal for this one.
I love how the most elite and powerful trainers of Johto are just randoms. Quiet, obscure and unknown to the public. They silently reside at the top of Battle Tower. The power is truly fearsome and unmatched level 100s. They are a secret higher force that controls everything. The Elite Four and Red are merely a joke compared to them.
I remember this place, but given I haven't actually played this in like, 15 years I was a total smooth brain back then and hadn't thought about actually training my Pokemon with a plan in mind.
My team was Kingdra, Dragonite and Tyranitar. I didn't do any special training other than the Pokemon league, and I didn't use any special strategy other than matching up the elements. I think I reached 20 wins once, but had more than my far share of losses along the way.
I was just thinking in my head if I bought a new gameboy and started a new game on my crystal version (if I can ever find it, may be long gone at this point) I would use Dragonite and Tyranitar. Possibly Gengar, Espeon or Alakazam as the third? I used Tyranitar as one of the 3 on Pokemon Sapphire battle tower and he absolutely smacked. I am about to turn 30 and haven't played these games since I was probably 12 but have had a bug lately that I just want to get a Gameboy and play this and red version again.
@@omegamanGXE Back in the day when I was kid I traded with friends Gameboys and my brother had a GameCube with one of the Pokemon games that could trade to the third gen. So we legit actually did trade for them. I got a Gengar on my red version now through glitching but I have a working GBA SP and I took my wife's in to get fixed so I have 2. So once again I'll be physically trading to have the Pokemon lol.
One of the greatest achievements of my youth is beating the battle tower lvl 100 with a Mewtwo Wobuffet and Venasaur. I had no clue about ev ivs or anything banked on mewtwos op stats wobuffet and his counters and mirror coat and venasaur versatility
Man, I remember getting destroyed by this Battle Tower back when I was a kid. I didn't go in depth into proper strategies etc. and so I was shocked by these brutal opponent Pokemon using moves that they "shouldn't" know and getting my whole team swept by a single Pokemon.
Playing this in 2004 on my GBC lvl 100 team: Snorlax, Mewtwo and any Other. Got my ass kicked a lot of times by Kingdras and Arcanines. Even Blissey was a menace...

It did but if you were to watch my video on the level 60 tower, particularly the battle in the thumbnail, you'd realize why I switched out. Thunder Wave crippled me the last time so I didn't want to risk it a second time. That and because all of the Electrodes hold the Bright Powder.
Is Hp-Up a rare item in this game ? Because that is a lame prize, yes five of them but for those hard battles you think something more useful is better huh. Great battles, i don't think i made it past 3-4 battles.
+KingdomCloudStrife Thanks. You can buy HP-Up in the Golden Rod City department store. All you get when you complete the battle tower is 5 random vitamins that you can buy in the same store. In this game money is not an issue because of the amulet coin so it's not even worth it.

KingdomCloudStrife Master Balls, Rare Candies or even Celebi would have been better prizes. I never completed the battle tower as a kid so I was very disappointed with the outcome.
I loved the battle tower on pokemon saphire. I used a Tyranitar, Metagross and Blaziken. I beleive i still have pokemon red and crystal version around my house somewhere. Just need to buy a new gameboy or two and a trading cord to build a op team on crystal and do the battle tower. It was so much fun to me end game.
Sorry for arriving late, it is possible to get max Effort Values at level 10 without using glitches nor external devices. First give 50 vitamins to your pokémon; second, raise them until level 9 via battles; third, save the game; fourth, make your pokemon fight again and stop fighting when it is almost ready to level up; fifth, deposit your pokemon in the daycare so all its normal experience is set at the minimum for level 9; sixth, withdraw the pokémon; finally, repeat steps 3 to 6 until your pokemon has all its EVs, after that, you can let it level up to level 10. You can also do this for level 5 pokémon, it is more tedious, but possible.

@@lucemonfalldownmode There is no way to get max stats before level 10. There are no EV's in Gen1 or 2. That's also not how stat experience works nor is it how the box trick works. Every Pokemon gives a different stat exp. Pidgeys give speed, Geodudes give defense etc.. It takes 656 of each Pokemon to max out each stat. Do the math. You'd pass level 10 before you'd max out a single stat. The box trick works better when you've reached level 100 since EXP isn't a factor. A pokemon that still has points via stat experience can still increase stats using the box trick AFTER battling pokemon and then depositing it to the PC. Going back to level 10, it only takes a few battles before exp levels you up if you were to start at level 5 making the box trick completely useless. It takes 656 Ditto's to increase all of the stats since Ditto's stats are all even. You'd never make it to 656 battles before level 10 based on the EXP points Ditto gives, even with vitamins. The only way to do it would be if you were to get 0 EXP from battles and then use the box trick. That's not possible without gameshark.
@@pikkon899 Correct. Start at any level and head to the grassy area in Goldenrod city outside of the day care at night. Fight the wild Ditto's there and keep count. You don't need max stats to win at the level 10 battle tower anyway. Using vitamins is enough especially when Pokemon like Skarmory, Arcanine, Aerodactyl, Lapras, all Eevee evolutions, Kangaskhan etc.. are all legal and can be used. Dragon Rage is also legal and very effective.
Extreme Speed was introduced in Generation 2 and it was Arcanine's signature move (learns it at level 50). It is also possible to receive a Dratini with Extreme Speed in Generation 2 by answering the quiz (correctly and on the first try) at the Dragon's Den from the Master after defeating Claire. Wild Dratini's in Gen 2 do not learn Extreme Speed via level up but the move can be passed down from the Dratini that was acquired at the Dragon's Den from the Master through breeding.
Nice vid. Assuming marowak is holding Thick Club, whats his attack dv? Apparently 15 dv + swords dance wont cap the attack at 999 but go down to like 8 attack cause of some glitch
If by DV's you mean diversification values, I can't tell you because I don't know. What I can tell you is that it is not "perfect" and that Marowak is holding the Thick Club. These are my Marowak's stats (I still have and play this game on my laptop) HP: 301 Attack: 244 Defense: 314 Special Attack: 196 Special Defense: 256 Speed: 178 - So, it would go like this, base attack is 244 + Thick Club = 488 + Swords Dance = 976 This Marowak was literally bred from the first Cubone I encountered in the game and I only took it to the breeder for the Ancient Power move. It's stats have been maxed out via stat experience training. In other words, it's stats have been maxed out but it has imperfect IV's and DV's. The glitch you're talking about only happens if Marowak's attack is 256 or higher which in turn, will reduce it's attack by 1024 if it is holding the Thick Club and after using Swords Dance. However, that only applies to Gold & Silver. It was corrected in Crystal version and it is possible to go past the 999 cap for regular battles only.
I wish that Crystal Battle Tower was more diverse though. There are only 19 pokemons you can encounter there at lvl 100 which gets repetitive and boring fairly quickly.

Machamp isn't a threat for me but Kingdra? God damn. Kingdra does make this set vulnerable but believe it or not, Marowak sometimes can take 1 surf but the same also applies for Kingdra as it sometimes can take a boosted Earthquake from Marowak. I was very lucky indeed.

The average user will most likely just use vitamins to bulk up and let me tell you, from past experiences, that doesn't always work. I still lost. Sentinel (Gaming) Ho-oh with toxic fly and recover is perfect Charizard always flies first so it's a free kill Mewtwos amnesia is epic but if a houndoom gets a critical or managed to lower special with Crunch then things might get tough hence dynamic punch Only real threat to this line up is Jolteon but usually holds up. I forget which one has leftovers but the other two are holding good items too
Jolteon wouldn't be a threat if your Ho-Oh had Earthquake. Since you have 3 Pokemon that are Physical/Special attackers, Toxic is not needed. At max 358 attack, Ho-Oh is the best physical attacker in your team. It should have Earthquake. This also takes care of Houndoom , Arcanine & Electrode. Mewtwo has the speed and the special attack to get by with out amnesia. At max 318 attack, and given Mewtwo's low defenses, Return would have been a better choice if you had to have a physical attack as Dynamic Punch has lower accuracy. Mewtwo can't afford to miss. I would have given the left overs to Ho-Oh. I'd swap Toxic with Curse or Sacred Fire for burn. Give Lugia the Scope Lens and Mewtwo the Brightpowder. Although you've probably already won, I see Kingdra as the only problem with your current moveset. A Ho-Oh with Earthquake and Curse would blow through Jolteon. I would also take advantage of it's part fire type as there are more steel, ice pokemon at level 100 than there are grass. Exeggcutor is the only one. Lugia has the flying type moves covered with Aeroblast. Good day.

So it's ok for him to take down a Rhydon, a Pokemon with a SUPERIOR defensive stat with one earthquake but you don't think it's possible for a fragile Jolteon to be taken down by the same move and by the same weakness? Besides he didn't even get the swords dance boost when he took down that Rhydon because his Scizor was ko'd nor did he did get the boost when he ko'd the Jolteon so yes it's ENTIRELY possible.
The battle tower at lv 100 ive found consistent success with my team of Typhlosion, Tyranitar and Starmie. Typhlosion has 355 hp, TTar has 399 hp and Starmie at 320 hp. But they all have their stats near their maximum. Typhlosion :Flamethrower,thunderpunch, earthquake, and sunny day Tyranitar: earthquake,rock slide,crunch,hyper beam Starmie: surf,psychic,recover,ice beam 95 out of 100 times i would win with this team

How did you get your Marowak to have the appropriate DV's for swords dance? It rolls over with swords dance and thick club if it doesn't have the right DV's in attack/defence and to my knowledge you can't glitch them to be 13 dv's like you can for perfect DV's.
Chip Chipperson It doesn't have perfect IV's or DV's. This Marowak simply has all of it's stats maxed out via Stat Experience training. This Marowak's attack is 244 without IV's or DV's. The thick club doubles its attack, giving it a 976 attack after boosting. More than enough beef to bulldoze anything in front of it.
Manny Pardo It's holding the Thick Club which doubles it's attack. All of it's stats have been maxed out. Remember, this generation 2. The current EV system doesn't exist here
Marowak was holding the Thick Club. This item doubled its attack. If your Marowak's attack is 245, it becomes 490 while holding the Thick Club when it is sent out. After passing 1 Swords Dance onto Marowak, its attack becomes 980 once it switches in. You can see me pull off this sweep in other videos where Marowak is present.
No. The main difference is that in this generation, the Pokemon at the battle tower have all of their 6 stats nearly maxed out, even at level 10 which is impossible. In Generation 3, the current EV system used today was introduced and it changed everything. Instead of having 6 maximized stats, you can only spread EV's to a certain set limit. Natures also raise and lower certain stats. No such thing was present in Generation 2. Generation 3 only allowed battles at level 50 to level 100. Generation 2 allowed battles as low as level 10 to level 100. Generation 3 was also much easier as it progressively got more difficult the further your streak continued but no where near the level of this tower as it was difficult even at level 10. It was also much easier to KO Pokemon in one turn after EV training in Generation 3.
I see, What about just the level 100 battles, in terms of the battling only and not the training? I assume that since there is no EV system you can abuse it just as much as the enemy? And there are probably less tactics to consider because I assume there are less items which can affect the game? (focus band/ choice band) Because at the moment in pokemon sapphire my win streak is like 77 and I just can't get to 100 wins in lv 100 battling. The most troubling things are critical hits and "luck" being against me, and the most troubling pokemon that I come across are gen 3 pokemon like swampert(only weakness is grass and it know ice beam!), Lati@s (generally strong) , walrein(sheer cold never misses) and milotic (recover and toxic). Heracross with salac berry can be annoying too though. But in gen2 I can't think of such deadly annoyances.
hakkihan tunbak What makes Generation 2's towers so difficult is the stats. Since there are no natures in this Generation, it was possible to have "Perfect" Pokemon in stats, IV'S and DV's. The split in special attack and special defense made a huge difference but because you are allowed to maximize all six, the Pokemon in this game are like tanks. Now granted the items in this game do make a difference (brightpowder, scope lens, quick claw) but to win, you have to be strategic like I was in the video. If not, you will be mowed down by the bulk of the Pokemon. You cant really abuse the EV system in this game (it's called stat experience in the 2 generations) because it takes much longer to achieve maximum stats than today. Even if a Pokemon was naturally low in defense, you could still maximize the stat and it would be higher than it would be in today's Pokemon games but it would still be the Pokemon's lowest stat in this game. This is the main reason why the EV system was introduced as having 6 maximized stats meant longer battles and it was seen as "unfair" by some fans. I disagree with that and I don't like the new system. Generation 2 was where we got to see the full potential of and battles were often intense because of it.
Sentinel (Gaming) Gen 2 also was a hard campfest. Lots of tanks and stall out matches so things got boring quick. People like hers hitting sweepers. This became more and more of a thing as Gen 3 and further tens came along.
@Sentinal, I agree with you for some parts but the maxed Evs in everything is what led to all competitive battles on the OU level being stalky. All there was was Curse and Snorlax, the God of Gen 2 and OU Briton built around him due to maxed stats. Even defense, his lowest stat, is mitigated heavily by rest and maxed EVs
+MLG EL Christoph The current EV system that is used today was introduced in generation 3 but the concept as well as EV's and IV's have existed since generation 1. The effort system was called "stat experience" in the first 2 generations and it allowed for all of the stats to be maxed out which took much longer to accomplish than with the current EV system used today.
@@R-1988 yup you can use gameshark to max pokemon ev so they have perfect Gene's like mewtwo for example would have 415 ho 318 attack 406 spt attack I did that for my pokemon blue so all my pokemon reach they max Gene's on its permanent for you to get a pokemon with perfect Gene's that is one in a million to cat h them in the wild

You must have at least 1 Pokemon at level 100 to access this tower. If you can only access the level 40 tower, it most likely means that the highest leveled Pokemon you own is at level 40. You unlock the remaining towers once a Pokemon in your party reaches the required level. You can also unlock a tower by catching a PokeMon that is the same or of a higher level than a specific tower. If you catch a level 40 Graveler, you will unlock the level 40 battle tower.
I understand this is a somewhat old video but what is the quickest method to getting perfect Pokemon in terms of EVs on the Crystal ROM. Is there a certain GameShark code that maxes out EVs or is there a program like PokeGen or Ciro's Pokemon Maker that allows you to generate Pokemon? Any feedback will be appreciated.
Unfortunately there is no quick way to maximize all of the stats in Generation 2. There are gameshark codes but they don't maximize the EV's. They instead give you 999 in each stat and it's a separate code for every stat. The "quickest" way to do it, legally is to go train at the grassy area near the day care center in Golden Rod City at night, where Ditto can be encountered. Since Ditto's stats are all even, all of your stats will be maxed out after 656 battles. Vitamins speed up the process and you will only have to battle half of the amount. You can of course use gameshark to trigger only wild Ditto to appear but the process otherwise remains the same. Unlike later games, the EXP Share does not share the EV's to your Pokemon in Generation 2. You must repeat the process I mentioned earlier for each Pokemon.
Aww, that's a shame. I wish there was a faster way, but that's kinda what I expected, since there's no PokeGen equivalent for Gen II. How long would you say it takes to max out a Pokemon's EVs by battling 656 Dittos (given you use the Ditto encounter code)?
If you pump up your Pokemon with vitamins first, you'll only need to battle 300 Ditto's instead of 656. The trick is to track the amount of Ditto's you've battled. This can be done by adding the total PP of your Pokemon's moves. Let's say your Pokemon's total PP count for all 4 moves is 61. 61x5=305. That means you would have to use up all of your Pokemon's PP during wild encounters 5 times to maximize the stats. Keep track of how many times you visited the Pokemon center after using up your PP and if you're using high level Pokemon, go back to the grassy area in New Bark town to face low level Ditto's. To see the gains before you level up, deposit the Pokemon after using all of the PP's into the PC and then withdraw it. Make sure to write down the stats before you do so. In other words, if your total PP is 61, then after every 61st battle, deposit and withdraw the Pokemon to see the gains before leveling up. Good luck.

Generations 1 & 2 used Stat Experience instead of the modern EV system. Stat Experience meant that you could max out every stat instead of 2. The Battle Tower in Generation 2 contains Pokemon that have near maxed out stats. That's why they are so difficult to take down. That and you attacking a half water Lapras with a fire type move.
@@stevenschmidt4441 I thought you wrote Lapras. This is why I hate looking at these notifications on my phone. Paras is 4x weak to Fire but if you went into the battle tower with a level 30 Magmar that has no Stat EXP, no vitamins were given to it or was raised to level 30 on Rare Candies alone, your damage will be less against a Pokemon with near maxed out stats. To understand stats in generation 2, you must understand what Stat EXP is why it is so different than the EV system used today.

The Thick Club doubles Marowak's attack in battle only. It's not a stat increaser like Protien is. The item takes effect in battle only. If your Marowak's attack is 150 when viewing it's stats, it becomes 300 but in battle only.
If I remember correctly, it has to be chain bred onto Cubone. You would need to breed either a male Omastar or Kabutops that knows Ancient Power, with a female Totodile. Once a male Totodile hatches from the egg, it should have Ancient Power passed down to it. Lastly, breed the male Totodile with a female Cubone and hatch the egg, which should be another Cubone with Ancient Power. You can go to the move deleter and delete all of Omastar's/Kabutops' moves except for Ancient Power. Males are the ones who pass moves onto the offsprings. If you don't have Omastar or Kabutops, I believe you can use a male Corsola as well, provided it knows Ancient Power
@@ChalieJourney You can also breed for Rock Slide instead. Simply breed a male Tyranitar that knows Rock Slide with a female Cubone to get it. I choose Ancient Power because it's more accurate than Rock Slide but Rock Slide is more powerful.
@@R-1988 Now I try to breed a male corsola male with Ancient power with a slowpoke female for breeding out child monster species and then breed with Cubone. But now several days in the game. Why don't they lay eggs?
@@ChalieJourney They're probably incompatible with each other, go into the daycare and check the Pokemon. If you see the message "They don't seem to like each other that much" when you talk to either one, it means they can't and won't breed. Certain moves require certain Pokemon and cannot be substituted with others.
isn`t blizzard supposed to do normal damage against scizor given that it`s a bug/steel type?, super effective against bug but not very effective against steel... doesn`t make much sense to me that it`s not very effective.
The Ice type was not super effective against the bug type in the first 2 generations. I don't know about today but I'd say it still isn't. Marowak is holding the Thick Club which doubles it's attack.
where did you find the metal coat to evolve scyther into scizor ? i looked everywhere's and i can't find it; i have a scyther and a trade stone just need metal coat now
There are no Trade Stones in Pokemon Crystal. Those exist in ROM hacks. You can find the Metal Coat in Crystal Version on the S.S. Aqua going into Kanto after finding the little girl and returning her back to her father. The father will give you the Metal Coat only you'd have to actually trade Syther in order for it to evolve.
Ah. In that case, you can find the Metal Coat on an Aggron after meeting the old man in the Firelight Caverns. He will ask you to find his friend at his house so he can go home. His friend is an Aggron. You can take the Metal Coat from Aggron once you accept him into your party, just make sure to take the item before you go back to meet the old man in the Firelight Caverns.
Tommy Hagen The answer is Wobbufett however, Scizor can take down Kingdra after using Swords Dance should it be sent out first. If it is sent out second, it's screwed. Machamp is another decent choice if you don't like Aerodactyl. Aerodactyl is a personal favorite of mine and I feel comfortable using it.
Tommy Hagen Tauros does not fair well in this generation. If you want to use a Normal type, choose Snorlax for this generation. The concept of the streak and the game keeping track of your wins didn't start until generation 3. This was just an added new feature in Crystal Version. And remember, the Battle Tower has in game AI. It is tough because the game has added EV's to the stats (just like your Pokemon would have regardless if you use Vitamins) but other than that, the AI is only slightly better than average. Don't waste your time with "sets" As you can see, Marowak's moveset here is quite bad but it still bulldozed it's way through this. Although the move Return would help tremendously.
@@R-1988 Ah thanks for clarifying the win tracking thing. Tauros seemed a better baton pass receiver to me than Snorlax, because it KO's almost all the battle tower pokemon after a +2 attack boost and it manages to outspeed most of them. But then again the pros of Snorlax are that it can set up on itself and bulldozer the entire team. Tauros is actually pretty decent in gen2, but of course falls far behind the gen2 king Snorlax.
Tommy Hagen The problem with Tauros is low defense. Paralysis is another issue Tauros can't deal with. Snorlax also has low defense but it can take more hits because of it's higher HP. Tauros also has to worry about Machamp, the Quick Claw and Cross Chop, which is why I have Aerodactyl with me. Boosting twice with Tauros will not give Earthquake enough power to take down Golem and Golem will Explode on you afterwards. Snorlax can compensate for this by using Curse and Rest. If Baton Pass with Swords dance is all you you want to use, consider Machamp, Tyranitar, Aerodactyl and to a lesser extent, Heracross as your 3rd options.

Oh, I get his strategy. He's just using Scizor to Baton Pass the Swords Dance and Agility boosts to either his Marowak or Aerodactyl depending on the context of the situation. And one of them will sweep the rest of the opponent's team. Clever strategy, maybe I'll try it out competitively.
jolteon is also another baton passer in gsc. heavy hitting mons like machamp and sandslash benefit heavily from bp.

I use Girafarig to pass Agility and Amnesia to Marowak, then Marowak sets up a Swords Dance.

The Battle Tower in Crystal was only exhibition back then. But when Emerald was released, the Frontier Leaders made a whole new spin for boss battles.
I personally found the frontier leaders much easier when I finally got there in Gen 3 than this battle tower. I found getting to the leaders more difficult than the actual leader battle since the trainers were always placed in random areas. The leader battles have easy AI manipulation as well.

I love seeing this and using this team in Gen 2 and 3 battle challenges. In competitive/Smogon OU this team isn't too common because each Pokémon has flaws holding it back but in game they have insane offensive power. Scizor was only a good stab and coverage move away from being one of the most broken Pokémon in the game.

Well, competitive a completely different world altogether, starting with the fact this 3v3 with Item Clause. If it weren't randomly generated teams, Curse Skarmory would completely wall these three mons.
However, Skarmory is completely absent at Level 100 Battle Tower, plus in the other levels it's never seen running Curse.
(Not to mention the Aerodactyl is a female, which means it has less than ideal Attack)

It (aerodactyl) is actually key for a cheap degenerate strategy in the low levels of Crystal Battle Tower. Thanks to the move Dragon Rage. Op made another video where they showcase that.
Aerodactyl isn't terrible in Gen 2, but you could probably make more efficient use of the 3rd slot.
@@tylerd1297 The Aerodactyls I use on my channel are always female. I chose Aerodactyl because I like it and because there's only 1 Pokemon that can out speed it in this tower and that's Electrode. Jolteon and Aerodactyl have the same base speed but because I am maxed out in the stat department, I go first. You could use Machamp or Snorlax for a 3rd slot. I always use my favorites instead of the "right" Pokemon for whatever it is I'm doing

I love how the most elite and powerful trainers of Johto are just randoms. Quiet, obscure and unknown to the public. They silently reside at the top of Battle Tower. The power is truly fearsome and unmatched level 100s. They are a secret higher force that controls everything. The Elite Four and Red are merely a joke compared to them.

My team was Kingdra, Dragonite and Tyranitar. I didn't do any special training other than the Pokemon league, and I didn't use any special strategy other than matching up the elements. I think I reached 20 wins once, but had more than my far share of losses along the way.
I was just thinking in my head if I bought a new gameboy and started a new game on my crystal version (if I can ever find it, may be long gone at this point) I would use Dragonite and Tyranitar. Possibly Gengar, Espeon or Alakazam as the third? I used Tyranitar as one of the 3 on Pokemon Sapphire battle tower and he absolutely smacked. I am about to turn 30 and haven't played these games since I was probably 12 but have had a bug lately that I just want to get a Gameboy and play this and red version again.

One of the greatest achievements of my youth is beating the battle tower lvl 100 with a Mewtwo Wobuffet and Venasaur. I had no clue about ev ivs or anything banked on mewtwos op stats wobuffet and his counters and mirror coat and venasaur versatility
Man, I remember getting destroyed by this Battle Tower back when I was a kid. I didn't go in depth into proper strategies etc. and so I was shocked by these brutal opponent Pokemon using moves that they "shouldn't" know and getting my whole team swept by a single Pokemon.

Playing this in 2004 on my GBC lvl 100 team: Snorlax, Mewtwo and any Other. Got my ass kicked a lot of times by Kingdras and Arcanines. Even Blissey was a menace...
Mine was Heracross snorlax and weirdly tentacruel (shiny so incentive to get it to 100). I probably won 90% of the times I went in.

It did but if you were to watch my video on the level 60 tower, particularly the battle in the thumbnail, you'd realize why I switched out. Thunder Wave crippled me the last time so I didn't want to risk it a second time. That and because all of the Electrodes hold the Bright Powder.
Is Hp-Up a rare item in this game ? Because that is a lame prize, yes five of them but for those hard battles you think something more useful is better huh. Great battles, i don't think i made it past 3-4 battles.

Thanks. You can buy HP-Up in the Golden Rod City department store. All you get when you complete the battle tower is 5 random vitamins that you can buy in the same store. In this game money is not an issue because of the amulet coin so it's not even worth it.

I loved the battle tower on pokemon saphire. I used a Tyranitar, Metagross and Blaziken. I beleive i still have pokemon red and crystal version around my house somewhere. Just need to buy a new gameboy or two and a trading cord to build a op team on crystal and do the battle tower. It was so much fun to me end game.

Sorry for arriving late, it is possible to get max Effort Values at level 10 without using glitches nor external devices. First give 50 vitamins to your pokémon; second, raise them until level 9 via battles; third, save the game; fourth, make your pokemon fight again and stop fighting when it is almost ready to level up; fifth, deposit your pokemon in the daycare so all its normal experience is set at the minimum for level 9; sixth, withdraw the pokémon; finally, repeat steps 3 to 6 until your pokemon has all its EVs, after that, you can let it level up to level 10. You can also do this for level 5 pokémon, it is more tedious, but possible.

@@lucemonfalldownmode There is no way to get max stats before level 10. There are no EV's in Gen1 or 2. That's also not how stat experience works nor is it how the box trick works. Every Pokemon gives a different stat exp. Pidgeys give speed, Geodudes give defense etc.. It takes 656 of each Pokemon to max out each stat. Do the math. You'd pass level 10 before you'd max out a single stat. The box trick works better when you've reached level 100 since EXP isn't a factor. A pokemon that still has points via stat experience can still increase stats using the box trick AFTER battling pokemon and then depositing it to the PC. Going back to level 10, it only takes a few battles before exp levels you up if you were to start at level 5 making the box trick completely useless. It takes 656 Ditto's to increase all of the stats since Ditto's stats are all even. You'd never make it to 656 battles before level 10 based on the EXP points Ditto gives, even with vitamins. The only way to do it would be if you were to get 0 EXP from battles and then use the box trick. That's not possible without gameshark.
@@pikkon899 Correct. Start at any level and head to the grassy area in Goldenrod city outside of the day care at night. Fight the wild Ditto's there and keep count. You don't need max stats to win at the level 10 battle tower anyway. Using vitamins is enough especially when Pokemon like Skarmory, Arcanine, Aerodactyl, Lapras, all Eevee evolutions, Kangaskhan etc.. are all legal and can be used. Dragon Rage is also legal and very effective.

Extreme Speed was introduced in Generation 2 and it was Arcanine's signature move (learns it at level 50). It is also possible to receive a Dratini with Extreme Speed in Generation 2 by answering the quiz (correctly and on the first try) at the Dragon's Den from the Master after defeating Claire. Wild Dratini's in Gen 2 do not learn Extreme Speed via level up but the move can be passed down from the Dratini that was acquired at the Dragon's Den from the Master through breeding.

If by DV's you mean diversification values, I can't tell you because I don't know. What I can tell you is that it is not "perfect" and that Marowak is holding the Thick Club. These are my Marowak's stats (I still have and play this game on my laptop)
HP: 301
Attack: 244
Defense: 314
Special Attack: 196
Special Defense: 256
Speed: 178
- So, it would go like this, base attack is 244 + Thick Club = 488 + Swords Dance = 976
This Marowak was literally bred from the first Cubone I encountered in the game and I only took it to the breeder for the Ancient Power move. It's stats have been maxed out via stat experience training. In other words, it's stats have been maxed out but it has imperfect IV's and DV's. The glitch you're talking about only happens if Marowak's attack is 256 or higher which in turn, will reduce it's attack by 1024 if it is holding the Thick Club and after using Swords Dance. However, that only applies to Gold & Silver. It was corrected in Crystal version and it is possible to go past the 999 cap for regular battles only.

Machamp isn't a threat for me but Kingdra? God damn. Kingdra does make this set vulnerable but believe it or not, Marowak sometimes can take 1 surf but the same also applies for Kingdra as it sometimes can take a boosted Earthquake from Marowak. I was very lucky indeed.

Only real threat to this line up is Jolteon but usually holds up.

Jolteon wouldn't be a threat if your Ho-Oh had Earthquake. Since you have 3 Pokemon that are Physical/Special attackers, Toxic is not needed. At max 358 attack, Ho-Oh is the best physical attacker in your team. It should have Earthquake. This also takes care of Houndoom , Arcanine & Electrode. Mewtwo has the speed and the special attack to get by with out amnesia. At max 318 attack, and given Mewtwo's low defenses, Return would have been a better choice if you had to have a physical attack as Dynamic Punch has lower accuracy. Mewtwo can't afford to miss. I would have given the left overs to Ho-Oh. I'd swap Toxic with Curse or Sacred Fire for burn. Give Lugia the Scope Lens and Mewtwo the Brightpowder. Although you've probably already won, I see Kingdra as the only problem with your current moveset. A Ho-Oh with Earthquake and Curse would blow through Jolteon. I would also take advantage of it's part fire type as there are more steel, ice pokemon at level 100 than there are grass. Exeggcutor is the only one. Lugia has the flying type moves covered with Aeroblast. Good day.

The battle tower at lv 100 ive found consistent success with my team of Typhlosion, Tyranitar and Starmie.
Typhlosion has 355 hp, TTar has 399 hp and Starmie at 320 hp. But they all have their stats near their maximum.
Typhlosion :Flamethrower,thunderpunch, earthquake, and sunny day
Tyranitar: earthquake,rock slide,crunch,hyper beam
Starmie: surf,psychic,recover,ice beam
95 out of 100 times i would win with this team

How did you get your Marowak to have the appropriate DV's for swords dance? It rolls over with swords dance and thick club if it doesn't have the right DV's in attack/defence and to my knowledge you can't glitch them to be 13 dv's like you can for perfect DV's.

It doesn't have perfect IV's or DV's. This Marowak simply has all of it's stats maxed out via Stat Experience training. This Marowak's attack is 244 without IV's or DV's. The thick club doubles its attack, giving it a 976 attack after boosting. More than enough beef to bulldoze anything in front of it.

Marowak was holding the Thick Club. This item doubled its attack. If your Marowak's attack is 245, it becomes 490 while holding the Thick Club when it is sent out. After passing 1 Swords Dance onto Marowak, its attack becomes 980 once it switches in. You can see me pull off this sweep in other videos where Marowak is present.

No. The main difference is that in this generation, the Pokemon at the battle tower have all of their 6 stats nearly maxed out, even at level 10 which is impossible. In Generation 3, the current EV system used today was introduced and it changed everything. Instead of having 6 maximized stats, you can only spread EV's to a certain set limit. Natures also raise and lower certain stats. No such thing was present in Generation 2. Generation 3 only allowed battles at level 50 to level 100. Generation 2 allowed battles as low as level 10 to level 100. Generation 3 was also much easier as it progressively got more difficult the further your streak continued but no where near the level of this tower as it was difficult even at level 10. It was also much easier to KO Pokemon in one turn after EV training in Generation 3.

What about just the level 100 battles, in terms of the battling only and not the training? I assume that since there is no EV system you can abuse it just as much as the enemy? And there are probably less tactics to consider because I assume there are less items which can affect the game? (focus band/ choice band)
Because at the moment in pokemon sapphire my win streak is like 77 and I just can't get to 100 wins in lv 100 battling. The most troubling things are critical hits and "luck" being against me, and the most troubling pokemon that I come across are gen 3 pokemon like swampert(only weakness is grass and it know ice beam!), Lati@s (generally strong) , walrein(sheer cold never misses) and milotic (recover and toxic).
Heracross with salac berry can be annoying too though. But in gen2 I can't think of such deadly annoyances.

What makes Generation 2's towers so difficult is the stats. Since there are no natures in this Generation, it was possible to have "Perfect" Pokemon in stats, IV'S and DV's. The split in special attack and special defense made a huge difference but because you are allowed to maximize all six, the Pokemon in this game are like tanks. Now granted the items in this game do make a difference (brightpowder, scope lens, quick claw) but to win, you have to be strategic like I was in the video. If not, you will be mowed down by the bulk of the Pokemon. You cant really abuse the EV system in this game (it's called stat experience in the 2 generations) because it takes much longer to achieve maximum stats than today. Even if a Pokemon was naturally low in defense, you could still maximize the stat and it would be higher than it would be in today's Pokemon games but it would still be the Pokemon's lowest stat in this game. This is the main reason why the EV system was introduced as having 6 maximized stats meant longer battles and it was seen as "unfair" by some fans. I disagree with that and I don't like the new system. Generation 2 was where we got to see the full potential of and battles were often intense because of it.
Sentinel (Gaming) Gen 2 also was a hard campfest. Lots of tanks and stall out matches so things got boring quick.
People like hers hitting sweepers. This became more and more of a thing as Gen 3 and further tens came along.
@Sentinal, I agree with you for some parts but the maxed Evs in everything is what led to all competitive battles on the OU level being stalky. All there was was Curse and Snorlax, the God of Gen 2 and OU Briton built around him due to maxed stats. Even defense, his lowest stat, is mitigated heavily by rest and maxed EVs

The current EV system that is used today was introduced in generation 3 but the concept as well as EV's and IV's have existed since generation 1. The effort system was called "stat experience" in the first 2 generations and it allowed for all of the stats to be maxed out which took much longer to accomplish than with the current EV system used today.

You must have at least 1 Pokemon at level 100 to access this tower. If you can only access the level 40 tower, it most likely means that the highest leveled Pokemon you own is at level 40. You unlock the remaining towers once a Pokemon in your party reaches the required level. You can also unlock a tower by catching a PokeMon that is the same or of a higher level than a specific tower. If you catch a level 40 Graveler, you will unlock the level 40 battle tower.

I understand this is a somewhat old video but what is the quickest method to getting perfect Pokemon in terms of EVs on the Crystal ROM. Is there a certain GameShark code that maxes out EVs or is there a program like PokeGen or Ciro's Pokemon Maker that allows you to generate Pokemon? Any feedback will be appreciated.
Unfortunately there is no quick way to maximize all of the stats in Generation 2. There are gameshark codes but they don't maximize the EV's. They instead give you 999 in each stat and it's a separate code for every stat. The "quickest" way to do it, legally is to go train at the grassy area near the day care center in Golden Rod City at night, where Ditto can be encountered. Since Ditto's stats are all even, all of your stats will be maxed out after 656 battles. Vitamins speed up the process and you will only have to battle half of the amount. You can of course use gameshark to trigger only wild Ditto to appear but the process otherwise remains the same. Unlike later games, the EXP Share does not share the EV's to your Pokemon in Generation 2. You must repeat the process I mentioned earlier for each Pokemon.
Aww, that's a shame. I wish there was a faster way, but that's kinda what I expected, since there's no PokeGen equivalent for Gen II. How long would you say it takes to max out a Pokemon's EVs by battling 656 Dittos (given you use the Ditto encounter code)?
If you pump up your Pokemon with vitamins first, you'll only need to battle 300 Ditto's instead of 656. The trick is to track the amount of Ditto's you've battled. This can be done by adding the total PP of your Pokemon's moves. Let's say your Pokemon's total PP count for all 4 moves is 61. 61x5=305. That means you would have to use up all of your Pokemon's PP during wild encounters 5 times to maximize the stats. Keep track of how many times you visited the Pokemon center after using up your PP and if you're using high level Pokemon, go back to the grassy area in New Bark town to face low level Ditto's. To see the gains before you level up, deposit the Pokemon after using all of the PP's into the PC and then withdraw it. Make sure to write down the stats before you do so. In other words, if your total PP is 61, then after every 61st battle, deposit and withdraw the Pokemon to see the gains before leveling up. Good luck.

Generations 1 & 2 used Stat Experience instead of the modern EV system. Stat Experience meant that you could max out every stat instead of 2. The Battle Tower in Generation 2 contains Pokemon that have near maxed out stats. That's why they are so difficult to take down. That and you attacking a half water Lapras with a fire type move.

Paras is 4x weak to Fire but if you went into the battle tower with a level 30 Magmar that has no Stat EXP, no vitamins were given to it or was raised to level 30 on Rare Candies alone, your damage will be less against a Pokemon with near maxed out stats. To understand stats in generation 2, you must understand what Stat EXP is why it is so different than the EV system used today.

The Thick Club doubles Marowak's attack in battle only. It's not a stat increaser like Protien is. The item takes effect in battle only. If your Marowak's attack is 150 when viewing it's stats, it becomes 300 but in battle only.

If I remember correctly, it has to be chain bred onto Cubone. You would need to breed either a male Omastar or Kabutops that knows Ancient Power, with a female Totodile. Once a male Totodile hatches from the egg, it should have Ancient Power passed down to it. Lastly, breed the male Totodile with a female Cubone and hatch the egg, which should be another Cubone with Ancient Power. You can go to the move deleter and delete all of Omastar's/Kabutops' moves except for Ancient Power. Males are the ones who pass moves onto the offsprings. If you don't have Omastar or Kabutops, I believe you can use a male Corsola as well, provided it knows Ancient Power

@@ChalieJourney You can also breed for Rock Slide instead. Simply breed a male Tyranitar that knows Rock Slide with a female Cubone to get it. I choose Ancient Power because it's more accurate than Rock Slide but Rock Slide is more powerful.

@@ChalieJourney They're probably incompatible with each other, go into the daycare and check the Pokemon. If you see the message "They don't seem to like each other that much" when you talk to either one, it means they can't and won't breed. Certain moves require certain Pokemon and cannot be substituted with others.

And that marowak is definitely cheated, it`s base attack is usually pretty average but it`s like this one has an exceptional attack stat...
The Ice type was not super effective against the bug type in the first 2 generations. I don't know about today but I'd say it still isn't. Marowak is holding the Thick Club which doubles it's attack.

There are no Trade Stones in Pokemon Crystal. Those exist in ROM hacks. You can find the Metal Coat in Crystal Version on the S.S. Aqua going into Kanto after finding the little girl and returning her back to her father. The father will give you the Metal Coat only you'd have to actually trade Syther in order for it to evolve.

Ah. In that case, you can find the Metal Coat on an Aggron after meeting the old man in the Firelight Caverns. He will ask you to find his friend at his house so he can go home. His friend is an Aggron. You can take the Metal Coat from Aggron once you accept him into your party, just make sure to take the item before you go back to meet the old man in the Firelight Caverns.
Love this team, although it's weak to Kingdra. Maybe replace Aerodactyl with something else? Don't know what though..

The answer is Wobbufett however, Scizor can take down Kingdra after using Swords Dance should it be sent out first. If it is sent out second, it's screwed. Machamp is another decent choice if you don't like Aerodactyl. Aerodactyl is a personal favorite of mine and I feel comfortable using it.

Tauros does not fair well in this generation. If you want to use a Normal type, choose Snorlax for this generation. The concept of the streak and the game keeping track of your wins didn't start until generation 3. This was just an added new feature in Crystal Version. And remember, the Battle Tower has in game AI. It is tough because the game has added EV's to the stats (just like your Pokemon would have regardless if you use Vitamins) but other than that, the AI is only slightly better than average. Don't waste your time with "sets" As you can see, Marowak's moveset here is quite bad but it still bulldozed it's way through this. Although the move Return would help tremendously.
@@R-1988 Ah thanks for clarifying the win tracking thing. Tauros seemed a better baton pass receiver to me than Snorlax, because it KO's almost all the battle tower pokemon after a +2 attack boost and it manages to outspeed most of them. But then again the pros of Snorlax are that it can set up on itself and bulldozer the entire team. Tauros is actually pretty decent in gen2, but of course falls far behind the gen2 king Snorlax.

The problem with Tauros is low defense. Paralysis is another issue Tauros can't deal with. Snorlax also has low defense but it can take more hits because of it's higher HP. Tauros also has to worry about Machamp, the Quick Claw and Cross Chop, which is why I have Aerodactyl with me. Boosting twice with Tauros will not give Earthquake enough power to take down Golem and Golem will Explode on you afterwards. Snorlax can compensate for this by using Curse and Rest. If Baton Pass with Swords dance is all you you want to use, consider Machamp, Tyranitar, Aerodactyl and to a lesser extent, Heracross as your 3rd options.
