Nice job, however, the protector spray leaving clearly visible drops would really annoy me after buffing up the boots to create a nice and even shine.

Do you reckon the reason a white residue appears around the creases is because the leather is coated in paint preventing it from absorbing conditioner?

Very good video on alternative products for care, however, you failed to do anything about the soles and the sole edged of the boot. They are the most vulnerable part of the boot and tend to fall apart quicker than the uppers. They are also of leather and deserve proper treatment to make the upper function longer. Is there any reason you do not put product on them? I would be curious to know your point of view, considering the advice others give to this subject. I enjoy my Beckmans and Iron Rangers, as well as about five other pair of Red Wings. Thank you for the helpful advice you give toward boots. I have Wolverines as well, and am glad to rotate between them and the Red Wings. DJ

I did forget to condition the leather on the Roccia outsole. I should have put some mink oil on there.
You have a nice collection of boots. How do you like the Wolverines vs the Beckmans?

@@CJCook Most people assume that both manufacturers are in the same (or similar) category, but designed styles and construction are different for Red Wing and Wolverine. Newer Wolverine boots utilize too many leather parts stitched together and detract from a clean design, while providing too many opportunities for cut stitches in hard wear.
Wolverine's eagerness to capitalize on the popularity of the current 1000 Mile styles (and their increased profits) made them introduce an inferior version at a lower cost - greed on their part and shameless lowering the high standard expected of a venerable company. (By the same point, China is producing "knock-off" Iron Rangers for sale on the internet.) I'd caution anyone to either save money over a long period of time for the "real deal," or take a chance to purchase used pairs through one of the online auction platforms. Fit becomes an issue for both manufacturers, so trying on sizes at a local sales location might prevent later disappointments.
The short answer to your question is that most of my Wolverines have a very thin sole and this wears through quickly -- which is why it is important to condition the soles, and eventually have a half sole (martyr sole) attached to add extra life in the wearing.
Two influences brought me to favor Red Wings: (1) the PBS program This Old House, whose Kevin O'Conner's foot (wearing a pair of Iron Rangers) has a close up as he gets out of his truck, and, (2) seeing a pair of 8-inch cap toe boots (taller Iron Ranger style) in a store window in Singapore on a visit there.
I've been fortunate to have added several pair since. Red Wing construction is second to none, although everyone slips up on occasion -- they have provided fewer disappointments through the years. Enjoy wearing boots, and continue with those reviews! DJ

@@quickfoxxes I really like the silhouette of the Wolverine 1000 Mile boot. It is impressive. I think it would me a good Summer boot but I agree with you the leather sole limits the 1000 Mile boot for year-round wear especially if you live in a city with proper seasons.

CJ, I recently purchased my first pair of RW’s. I also own a pair of Wolverine 1000 miles in brown. I like them so much I decided I need a black pair of boots as well. I went with the Beckman’s (9014- black) based in large part on your recommendation to get a pair while they’re still available. You’re cleaning tip to use black leather conditioner (instead of neutral, because it leaves white reduce in crease lines) sounds like good advice. However, I can’t find black leather conditioner for sale on Red Wings website or Amazon. Do you happen to know if RW has discontinued this product? If they have, do you have a recommendation for an alternative leather conditioning product? Thanks for any advice and I enjoy your videos and find them very helpful.

Questions for you Mr. Red Wing ; ). I have Iron Rangers in a size 9E. Wear Orthotics thus the need for the E. I want to find the Beckman 9014 but as you know they didn't come in a wider width. If I find them (probably used which is ok) you think a size 9 regular would suffice i.e., did they run wider possibly to begin with...?
Also, I know you mentioned the Beckman may return (wooo...!). If so do you know when, any details etc.?
