- I compare the Red Wing "Red Leather" boots: The 3340 Blacksmith in Briar Oil Slick Leather, 8012 Munson Ranger in Burgundy, 8119 Iron Ranger in Mesa Oxblood Leather and the 9011 Beckman in Black Cherry Featherstone Leather. I adore all of these boots and can find a place for each boot in my day to day wear.

I’d have to say the Blacksmith in Briar Oil Slick is my favorite...that’s why I bought a pair :) I’m with you though- I love the outsole on the Beckman.
Lmao like a kid on Christmas morning when he said let's go buy a pair at the Redwing Store. Then comes out with two pair. Awesome!!!!!!
You know it!
Just found and bought a pair of the 9011 Black Cherry Beckmans online (new) and recently bought Mesa Oxblood in the Harvesters. The Harvesters were used and looked darker than your Iron Rangers here, so seems like it darkens with age, could have been the previous owners conditioning as well, but so beautiful. Can’t wait to get the 9011’s, I like the purple-ish brown-ish hue to it. I also like how the briar oil-slick leather seems to have a texture that deepens over time as well, gives great character to them. For me, the brightest red is a little to flashy for my style but looks like a great choice for special occasions. Great video as always!
Oooh, my favorite leather color scheme when it comes to boots, probably a hold-over from my old oxblood Doc Marten days.
Yep, the "reds" featured amongst the various Red Wing leathers is pretty broad, a feature I rather enjoy. Allows me to change things up from time to time.
Oh yeah, and the most important (wink wink) reason: It's a very convenient excuse to.snag yet another pair of boots. Oh well, once Boot Guy always a Boot Guy.
Great feature topic, mahalo!
Man that Munson iron ranger is so nice!! Love the collection one day I’ll own all 4 as well 👌👌
Thank you, on top of looking nice the Munson Ranger is the most comfortable.
Oh, the Beckman looks fantastic. I would definitely get a pair. Thank you so much for the Color Comparison.
Sweet boots I have the Iron Ranger Oxblood since 2015 but just got the 9010 moc toe in black cherry and there really cool.
Great... Cause I don't think RW is making the 8119s anymore
I actually just purchased the 8119, and I’m super excited to get them in the mail. Can’t wait to beat the hell out of them 😂
Crazy nice boots are all!! I’d love to see that Beckman outsole on the Iron Ranger. Regardless, they are all stunners!! Thanks for taking us on the shopping trip too. That was awesome!
Yeah, the Roccia outsole is the best!
Glad you enjoyed the video.
The Beckman is the most beautiful (and most versatile) boot Red Wing ever made!
Agreed!
Beckmans and Blacksmiths for me.I do berlieve that the Blacksmith will look great in Roccia Sole.
Nice man I like the oxblood iron rangers personally but it depends on the angles too lol
I was in the market for the Oxblood Mesa Iron Ranger and missed it on Amazon and the price change went up, had them for $257, just last week!! But next boot I'm getting will be one of the "reds" for sure...so, this video was timely. Thanks for the comparison and "remember be a boot!"
Wait a second, CJ...i didn't get to hear..."TRIPLE STITCH!!!"
HAPPY NEW YEAR EVERYONE!!!
The Oxblood Leather is soo soft I just love it! It is the softest out of the four boots (by feel).
Mesa Oxblood Rangers with the commando style outsole you were mentioning would be a breath taker. The Beckman look great with them but I'm a sucker for the cap toe. Great video btw!
Yeah, I would be all over those boots!
Thank you!
My 8119’s are fantastic! Maybe my best boot choice ever. So, I’m more of a 875 Moc and Iron Ranger guy and have never been interested in the Beckman line; however, due to your videos, I’m intrigued. Especially with those 9011’s...Red Wing’s reddish leathers are quite nice. But, my next purchase will definitely be the beautiful 8083’s, and then possibly the 9011’s or charcoal Blacksmiths. Keep up the great videos!
Thank you Scott! I am wearing the 8119s right now. The Beckman's are special. If you have never tried them on...there is a different level of comfort. You really should try them.
Great comparison video CJ. Nice work pulling the trigger on the 8119... next video, sole comparison video....
Hahahaha, Roccia outsole would win for me...hands down!
For me, the Oxblood Iron Ranger has the best combination of color and style. That cap toe really stands out and the color is vibrant without being obnoxious.
true.
Ive got to give the crown to the briar but maybe bc thats the next boot on my list! All are stunning though
The Briar has a lovely texture.
@@CJCook for sure. it doesnt seem like it has the best patina though honestly. I think the rough and toughs look way better with age. what do you think?
@@TheMensch Oh yeah, the Rough & Tough leathers tell a great story with their patina.
If I were to get some boots resoled, would they be able to put the rosha sole on them? Actually I guess my question is do they cost more or is it the same price for a resole, no matter what sole you pick to be on there?
Correct, it is the same price.
Thank you for doing this. The 8119 was my first RW purchase and I've been waffling on whether I should buy the 3340s. This helps.
GREAT! I am so glad this video helped you.
Happy New Years.Yes,CJ,I love the outsoles on my beckmans too.I like the briar leather best also.I only have the briar oil in the 8138 mocs for now but really like the blacksmiths with briar.Only blacksmiths i have are the spitfires which are in my top 3 favorite.I have seen your spitfire blacksmith review too..Also wish the beckman leather would age better instead of the shinny dressy look.Take care. Thanks for sharing.
Happy New Year Brad! The 2955s are special - - glad you have those in your collection too. I love mine.
Love this vid man. I’m going to buy the 8119s right now!
I’ve own Red Wings for many years and their colors are inconsistent from boot to boot. Dealing with a natural material such as leather it’s hard to stay consistent. I recently sent back a pair of 8111s for warranty and was given a new pair. The new pair I received was way darker than the pair I sent back. So much so that I’m not sure you can even call it brown.
That is interesting...I know a shipment of boots were sent back to the factory once for the reason of having a leather that was discolored. Which color would you call your new 8111s?
CJ Cook I wish I could post pics. The pair I sent back came with a defective panel. But the color was consistent with 8111s I’ve seen in the past. This new pair I would call a deep dark brown nearing black when there is no light on them. When you put them in the light I would call them a dark mahogany.
@@recoilrider2833 Oooh, that reads NICE! Maybe like the Beckman Walnut Featherstone 9023 that I have been chasing...?
@@CJCook 9023 is Walnut Settler
@@wendhynovizar3926 Yep, so lovely
The oro russet moc toe is a reddish leather also #8875 & #8864.
8119 and 3340 are the two I went with, Both are still new in the box, but plan on starting the break in of the 8119 and then the 3340 :o)
Thanks for the comparison.
Love you vids man this was great I got a lot out of this
The only thing letting you down man is the audio
Invest in a little rode micro mic on a boom pole it will lift you’re production x100 and get rid of that roomy sound .
It sounds great when you do you’re voice overs and you shoot great compositions just the sound is letting you down in my personal opinion ( please I’m not hating on ya just know this is a cheap easy fix to up you’re game )
I just got the 8138 Moc Toes in Briar Oil Slick and they"re not really red at all. Much more like dark brown. Maybe because they are still pretty new?
I can get my hands on the Iron Ranger in oxblood and the Beckman 9011. Considering buying one of them, but not sure which one to get
Beckman! 100% the Beckman!
@@CJCook They Are both discontinued
@@qltyboots yes, they are
can't wait for an Iron Ranger galore!!!
I want those Munsens!!!
They are worth the hunt!
Congrats CJ, those red leather boots are beautiful. I want to know if Red Wing has any dressier boots? What about the Beckman or the Sheldon, can I wear them with suits?
williston
I just got my IR 8119 had there first outside walk today I did look at the Beckman 9011 that out sole is a thing of beauty. Also did you say you sized up as I though sizing down was the way to go I went down a half size.
Great video! Your briars look more brownish than mine. But I have not yet needed to condition mine. I like the color you have on yours and hope mine ‘brown out’ more. I am thinking about amber harness IR so that I can have a ‘brown’ boot.
Also how would you think about the 875 (I know different style) as a red? I think they were originally dyed with redwoods which give them the orangey-red tone. I bought a pair also hoping that when I apply mink oil they will darken towards brown.
The 875s are a classic. I would call them more orange than red.
If you apply mink oil they will definitely darken.
I am fortunate to have a pair of 8012s. Would you use the same polish as you would a Beckman? Another words, is it a smooth finished leather?
Yes, Red Wing Leather Cream would be the best product to use.
CJ, what don’t you like about the way the black cherry Beckmans age? I just ordered a pair (my 3rd pair of RW’s) after seeing various pictures of them “aged”. I personally thought they looked better with age, so curious what turned you off about them. BTW, thanks for the great content, one of my favourite channels for sure.
I don't like the off-colored scuff marks that happen with time.
CJ Cook I get it. I personally like the character it adds, and if you need to dress them up it looks easy enough to cover with the right conditioning and coloured boot crew.
I am missing the 3340.
Mon you have enough boots to last you 2 life time's depending on how much you wear your boots. Wow I would love to just have one boot would last me many year's brown or black.
I do indeed have too many boots
& that pair completes the red wing home page.....😏
Heard Redwing will do the IR in Briar. 😀
That would be cool. I asked them to do a Briar Rover.
I'm not sure I like any of the red boots mostly everything I wear Brown boots would be my first choice then black is more of a dressy style if I was in uniform or casual style wear I guess brown boots would work but Oxford red? They do stand out but for me to spend that much on boots nope I'm good with brown or black just like the same style diffrent colors.
Only Briar Oil is missing from my Red Collection and that Will have to wait till next payday, gonna buy 8138
Great choice!
@@CJCook You lack Bordeaux Spitfire though, Gotta look for that 8016 asap!
@@wendhynovizar3926 I know! They are beauties...not east to find.
Love it!
Can I still find the Munson's in burgundy????
Let me check
@@CJCook I appreciate it
Where can I buy the Munson’s?
Europe and Asia...unfortunately.
Do you think the Blacksmith is a better quality boot than the Wolverine 1000 mile?
Hey Dan, I am not able to answer that question because I have never had the Wolverine 1000 Mile on feet but I have held them and I think they are gorgeous boots. BUT, I will get an answer for you from someone who owns both.
@@CJCook Thanks. I have the Briar Oil Slick Blacksmith and really love them. What is another color/model Blacksmith you think might be worth picking up? Copper Rough and Tough?
@@DSilvergun I own the Briar, Charcoal Rough & Tough, Hawthorne and the Spitfire Blacksmiths.
Well...I changed the Hawthorne Blacksmiths to Beckmans.
If you can find the Spitfires pick them up second the Copper Rough and Tough are quite lovely. The 3343 look quite nice on feet.
@@CJCook Great thanks!
Man that Beckman is sexy the best out of all of the Beckman color way IMHO.
The Beckman is a FANTASTIC lookin' boot indeed.
The Beckmann in Black Cherry was my first Red Wing . I constantly get compliments on them every time I wear them.
@@davidbaughman3840 the 9011 has been my latest purchase and love em! I'm gonna try to baby them since they are discontinued.
Can you do a video of how to break in your boots? I’m in break in hell right now.
Hahaha! I am working on one now.
