I have briar oil in blacksmiths, roughneck, chukkas and beckman chukkas, and moc toes, and I treated them with neatsfoot oil and wow! They darken a bit , but then they soon lighten, and the leather soaks it up. It penetrates very deeply and the leather feels awesome! Then I sealed it in with mink oil. I have to admit , it is one of my favourite colours now. It is a rich colour. Then used the protector as a final finish.
Hey!CJ. Boots care is important. I cared boots yesterday. Brashing, cleaning and oiling. I use REDWING leather cleaner and all natural condition every time.
Just got a pair of these in Copper Rough and Tough and loved em so much I got another pair in Briar Oil Slick on the way. I already had a pair of 1907s in Copper Rough and Tough that I love dearly. I really think that the Blacksmith my be my favorite boot now tho. The break in wasn't nearly as bad as my moc toes either. Plus these although rugged are lighter and sleeker. Thanks for the vids man. Really helped me get into boots (Red Wings in particular).
Cleaning and conditioning is important but you would be surprised how long they can go without it. I mainly brush my boots off regularly. I think to much cleaning & conditioning can over soften the leather. Nice job with your boots that’s all you need to do 👍🏼
Brushing the boots does wonders simply because Red Wing boots leave the factory treated so brushing will stimulate the oils that already exist on the leather.
Go with a little less pressure on your final brushing; try to just have the tips of the bristles contacting the surface, and it tends to bring a little more sheen to the finish. On smoother leathers, you can do a final buff with a stocking or panty hose for a surprisingly good and easy shine.
I can see why you love red wings. I just got my first pair of red wings 875 oro legacy. I have danners and thorogoods and for heritage type boots the quality is top tier.

I have the 1907 and I would recommend the same one he used in this video or Lexol leather conditioner. Both of them will not darken the leather. I have both the leather cream & Lexol leather conditioner, I prefer the Lexol mainly because the leather cream from Redwings makes the leather feel a little tacky and it gives it a slight shine. Where the Lexol seems to absorb into the leather better and you can put multiple coats without the leather darkening.

Thank you for another great video man! I have the 8111 and love the look and color and don’t want to darken it. If I follow you same steps and products, will this help to not darken the leather?
You might end up prematurely drying out your boots by using the boot cream. The priar leather is a oil tanned leather that needs it's natural oils replenished from time to time. The only conditioning factor in the boot cream is lanolin, which is fine for smooth leathers but not so much a semi finished leather, aka oil tanned leather. Try the Leather Cream by Red Wing. It will do a much better job and keep the original color.
Miguel Vargas I appreciate your advice. I just posted a question regarding the difference between the *boot cream* and *leather cream* .
