@@fiblz5443 what do U think ur doing here, buddy?
As a weird person, the Werehog stages and bossfights are my favorite part of Sonic Unleashed. There's something enjoyable about slamming the enemies around in such a chaotic fashion that feels so different from other Sonic games
You should try out devil may cry or Judgement. Those are even better!
@@snakey888I love DMC5!
@@snakey888 i was about to write "But Devil May Cry doesn't have the cartoonish enemy grabbing and slamming", but then i remembered Nero's playstyle.
Splatterhouse 2010 and Greek God of War games have some nice grab moves too, to my knowledge.
the music in both versions goes hard, also
@ It's not a Sonic game if the music doesn't go hard.
"Sonic Unleashed" and "bad" are not words I would put together.
Edit: Likes, thanks.
Unless it's:Sonic Unleashed is not bad
@@PaypsAgain True, It's actually the first sonic game I had played and I'm thankful for that.
@@tha_real_king yes 😊
Well I still don’t like the werehog stages

Pro tip: when a qte appears onscreen, you can pause and look at the buttons
Sometimes the qtes are really unfair and go by too quick to see them
Especially in Eggmanland
The KH2 Luxord strategy
I've played this game for 15 years and never tried that💀.

I mean they are pretty easy in my opinion
Also, Choc, you should boost most of the time you can in the day stages without it being a problem. They're designed for you to be boosting the whole time, unless you want to be scouring the stage for medals, which, in that case, fair enough.
Yeah, and then complain that the game is unfair, and throws obstacles that "cannot" be avoided..
No he shouldn't, you do that cuz you know the stages, he doesn't. Boosting constantly will make him run into walls and fall into the void
that one part of empire city:
@@lohimocholohilo728 I mean during those sections of just running? Like the openings of the levels? His Cool Edge day looked almost exactly like the IGN review, lol
Ok, not the ENTIRE time, I said when you can, implying that he should do it if he can clearly do it without anything wrong happening.
Hey Choc, useful tip: in the Werehog sections, you don't actually need to keep pressing the "climb/grab" button to grab things, you can just hold the button down and not release it and it will work. Way more reliable and makes it less anxiety-inducing lol.
The Wii version trained me to do this before I ever played the HD version, because you have to keep the button held down in that one to hold onto things
@@robertlauncher Same, I've actually only played the Wii version, been playing it for the first time this past year because I found a copy in my uncle's stash of old Wii games and I was curious. Quite a lot of fun! But I knew this trick works in the HD version too even though I haven't actually played it myself (don't have anything to play it on :( ).
@@legoboy7107 The Wii version’s pretty good too. No Tornado missions, that’s a plus and gets rid of a minor story issue where Eggman should already know Sonic’s alive by the time he gets to Mazuri because they fought in the air.
Rooftop run both Day and Nights Theme go so hard. RTR Nights’s music is such a Vibe. There’s a reason why Tomoya Ohtani is the Goat 🐐
Rooftop Run is a absolutely fantastic track. You can name franchises with better music but no game series I can think of hits so many different genres and manages to have at least two to three absolute bangers in every one.

For bosses during day, you should try boosting into them instead of homing attacking them. At least with this boss, it knocks him back and starts him bouncing out of control so you can get a couple extra hits in.
The werehog isn’t bad and I’ll stand by that, I feel like most of the problems it had is just because it’s in a sonic game and if it wasn’t sonic related it wouldn’t have as much criticism due to not being compared to the boost gameplay
Completely agreed, and if I’m being honest, character action could totally work with speed, with games like Bayonetta being a great example of that, the werehog could use a couple tune ups like having a drop shadow for platforming, but that combat is actually good
I feel like people who dont like the werehog dont understand how he's supposed to be played.
why do people hate werehog that much

Here’s a really helpful tip if you see this, Choc!
If you hold the B button when platforming as the Werehog, you’ll automatically grab onto ledges, poles, and other things. It’s extremely useful and not a lot of people know about it
I saw the title and without even watching the video I'm here to say that it is definitely NOT "that bad", it is AMAZING
W opinion, this game is legendary
I love Sonic unleashed. My favorite Sonic game of all time. Frontiers is second
@@eliezersarcos7813hey bro did you play generations I think it's better
@@user-dj5jp9ez8s it's alright but unleashed stomps no diff
@@user-dj5jp9ez8sGenerations is not better. Classic Sonic doesn't control great, the game is way too short, extremely easy, half the bosses are mediocre and one of them is bad (the final boss), the original soundtrack is not great, only the remixes of songs, the game's story is actually harmful to the franchise and the cutscene before the final boss is the second worst cutscene in the franchise only above the kissing one from 06. Generations is fun, but it's in no way comparable to Unleashed.
Choc, I’m going to repeat this, but you are definitely not ready for Empire City at night!
Ugh. I love the concept of that level, but I HATE how the latter half works out in practice.
@@spindash64 That level and all other Werehog levels before and after it, are the main reason I was unable to even beat the game. True story.😭
I wonder if he goes to THAT PART in arid sands night
@@fruitloops5672 Arid sands NIGHT? Oh, please don't remind me of that! You have any idea how many attempts that took me?
Ohhhhh. My favourite Nighttime level, but it's really tough the first time
The most refreshing first playthrough of Unleashed Ive ever seen
I just love how the day stages in this are JUST the right length of time to fully enjoy compared to the newer modern games with levels you finish in 1 minute
I gotta play Unleashed now. Choc, there are a lot of games you've introduced me to, and even though I've seen stuff about Unleashed and other games, I gotta play it for myself, and it's because of this playthrough. You get the gold star, sir
Don't forget to explore the levels part of the hub worlds , there is some little bonus day and night stages where you can get more medals. They also provide some nice challenges.👌
By the by my guy: If you ever replay day stage bosses, note that under the right conditions you can BOOST into them instead of homing attacking them. Doing so allows you to deal more damage much faster, if you can figure out how to pull it off. You can even chain boost hits into other boost hits, at least for Egg Beetle.
Hey Choc, I'm glad you are having fun with this game. It's honestly my favourite sonic game. Some quick tip: If you ever feel like back tracking, and you want to get all the medals without completing the stage; you can simply collect the medal, and exit the stage. You still get to keep medal. Just note that this only works on stages you completed.
Also, In terms of the sun and moon medals: if you are looking to just beat the game, you need 120 sun medals and 80 medals. you can get them by beating side stories (aka, interacting with the towns people) and extra stages in each world.
If you want to take advantage of an expliot: go to Chun Nun (day time), > go to the area with all the stages > there will be an line of rings to the left (its just before first stage that lights up, don't remember what kind of stage it is) > wall jump up > you will see a circle of rings > dash into them > and just keep walking around. and you will get unlimited rings. You can use them to buy chili dogs at each world's location. If you feed them to sonic, he will gain XP (you can also feed chip some food, to see his reactions). do it enough, and you can max out sonic. You can also use this trick to get to 99 lives (however, you have to exit the area and come back to do this). Hopes this helps!
my favorite bit of trivia for this game is that the messed up off key version of the main theme was the hardest song in the soundtrack to record just because all the musicians kept laughing halfway through the performance
The thing I hate about unleashed is the boost and the homing attack is on the same button with can mess you up when you trying to recover.
The best Sonic platforming
This game is frreeeaking amazing
Since I beat it 2 months ago, I think it’s become my favorite game of all time
Choc, if you’d have boosted into the Egg Beetle while it had its pincers open, you would’ve been able to juggle it, via constantly smacking into it via the Boost.
i honestly really like the werehog stages. especially the platforming and puzzle ones. The problem i have is the stupid music that plays everytime you fight a group of enemies. I had to turn off the audio and play something else so not go insane. If they added a new combat ost for each level i would like the werehog almost as much as the sonic levels
Sonik on leash
😂
songit*
So Choc, a little tip for Werehog platforming: instead of mashing the B button, you can just hold it down and Sonic will automatically grab if he locks on to something. Makes your life a lot easier knowing this
Man, ever since I learned the Boost Tech for Bosses, seeing people do them with homing attacks is weird now.
When Choc got the E rank, it sounded like if the Sonic Unleashed OST was charted in Trombone Champ 🤣🤣
Really enjoying this new playthrough, Choc! This is actually one of my favourite Sonic games, and alI still revisit it on my Wii every now and then
Choc, at 14:25 with the ring area, if you boost from those rings and shimmy around where they spawn, you'll be able to get as many rings as you want, this can be useful for getting the items in the shop, especially the food which you can use to max out the levels for both the hedgehog & werehog aspects.
Huh I never thought of that
@@robertlauncher It's an exploit! I think it has something to do with the camera and how it makes the rings spawn in more frequently. You can just run around that spot and farm rings.
"At least there's no quick time events"
The next day boss (Keeping spoilers to a minimum in case Choc happens to see this): Allow me to introduce myself
I love watching Choc play Sonic games. Thanks for the fun content!
This game is my absolute favorite game ever. I know it's far from perfect, but it is the only game I consistently return to. I recently completed an upgrade-free playthrough (Eggmanland made me want to tear my hair out...), and even though it was difficult at points, I still enjoyed it.
6:19 Me anytime I'm trying to rollerskate
8:53 Puny God... nice reference-
9:28 SHORYUKEN! (The references, just like in the Henry Stickmim games, are endless.)
9:57 Wild Berry Pop-Tarts, my beloved-
10:00 Squidward walking sfx will never not be funny to me.
23:31 Water Zoomies
23:33 Bowling!
24:49 - 24:56 Yes, Choc, I think we are.
Some advice if u dont mind, collect medals only in the hub worlds and during night time stages, if that wont be enough u can get medals from professor pickle if u get him souvenirs from around the world. The day stages r usually just for blasting through and have fun clearly as fast as possible
Choc just a slight tip, but I think one of the best combos for the Werehog stages is something called "Aerial Claw Slash & Spin" (or jump, X, X, A) not because it's a good attack but because it's a good way to propel yourself forward in platforming segments.
This one combo makes Eggmanland’s night sections a piece of piss
About the Eggbeetle: The long grabby fire bits are actually mandibles, not horns! If the critter Eggman referenced for its shape is actually a Stag Beetle, then the long grabbers are actually an extension of the jaw, not a separate pair of antlers or horns grown from the carapace or shell.
Given the articulation of the mandibles on the Eggbeetle though, another fun reference Eggman may have used could be the Tailess Whip Scorpion! While they have eight legs (they're arachnids, the two first legs are very spindly and faint though, giving them a similar overall shape to the above) and are not insects (see the Eggbeetle's six instead, placing it closer to the beetle's insect form), Tailess Whip Scorpions have massive chelae ending instead in pincers, but a very similar body shape to the Eggbeetle, and the articulated folding pincer joints. A cool looking robot overall!
Sonic unleashed was the source of some of my best childhood memories.
I was stuck on that first plane quicktime level for like a year but the rest was fun
Also you can just hear how focused choc is on rooftop run 😭
Also i dont think we would mind watching the backtracking, i know i would
i find it weird that with every mario video he makes the title is like: "mario galaxy is the greatest game ever made" and then he makes a sNOC video and the title be like: "Do the people who made Sonic Unleashed deserve to BURN in hell?"
Imagine a world where this game lived up to the expectations of the intro cutscene
It did
Just decent.
Choc saying silent during Rooftop Run Day was so odd cuz usually hes continuously talking.
You can pause the game for the quick time events. Then you can see the buttons you need to press without the quick time event's timer going down.
One suggestion I could give against day bosses is that you can boost straight into the weak point.
Best practice would be against the Egg Beetle and just consistently boost into the weak point when it opens up and even when it starts rolling around. Just keep boosting to stack up the hits in a quicker time. It's very satisfying seeing it ragdoll around.
I always liked the night stages more than the day stages, mostly because I was really, really bad at controlling Sonic at full speed and would constantly mess up and either struggle slowly through a segment or go full speed and brute force it until I got lucky (and I think the devs knew it was unfair at times, 1up's respawn and are often put in front of checkpoints). I do think the night stages are too long but I do like that it doesn't really punish the player's score if they take ages, they wanted you to explore. But oh boy the final stretch of this game, it was too much and I never beat it, mostly because of getting frustrated.
A final piece of advice, you will want to be upgrading the life and damage of werehog sonic because there will be a huge difficulty spike in Eggmanland. Other than that you’re killing it! Hope you’re having fun. The daytime stages will get more fun the more you learn the layouts and patterns that most stages follow
im wondering about eggman land also if you end up doing the dlc stages i cant wait, this is so crazy to see for me cause I always rush through these stages as its my favorite game
The rooftop level is just crazy, would it be only for the superb visuals.
Hi Choctopus, new subscriber, been binging your Sonic content. Keep up the great work!
I love your videos. Also, a tip about the sun and moon medals. If you get the ones in the night stages, you should have enough so you don't have to back track.
The kid who threw the rock is amazing. He threw it so hard it MADE EGGMAN DIZZY. Kid needs to be a baseball pitcher.
The daytime stages I personally prefer over Rooftop Run are Cool Edge (Holoska), Arid Sands, Dragon Road (Chun-nan) and Jungle Joyride.
The reason I haven't specified what stage is in what country is because you haven't reached them yet
Jungle Joyride is my fav, is soooo fun to speedrun
Man, the gameplay is so different between this and the Wii version. Didn't notice it that badly till I saw how the Werehog fights played out. Lots of Quick Time events.
The thing I remember most about playing this game as a kid was that the werehog stages we played by shaking the wiimote and nunchuck and it was very fun
technically a different game
Hey Choc! I love your content!
Also good luck on Eggman Land
It's said to be the hardest sonic level
24:17 to 28:40 was like a thing of beauty. I never played sonic unleashed but that whole segment made me think "is this why rooftop run is loved by alot of people?"
Quick tip: when you see those trails of rings you press Y to light speed dash, that will allow you to zoom through those trails of rings to reach other areas
Edit: I thought you picked up the light speed shoes my bad(guess this will be a future tip then 😂)
you don't have light speed dash in these parts of the game. I'm in my first playthrough and am exactly where he is.
@@khaosklub my bad I thought in chu-nan he picked up the light speed shoes guess they were just the air dash 😅
I'd love for you to practice the daytime stages and try to speedrun them at the end of the playthrough
Wow the speed in Rooftop Run was crazy. If it got me dizzy and I'm not the one playing, I can't imagine if I were to play it for myself, still it looked super fun. I assume you can get even more insane speed in that stage. To me it also feels like the closest point of view of what Sonic sees and feels when he runs at the moment or at least a portion of it.
Wonder 🤔 if Sega will ever reach a point we're they can fully manage to make that real. Able to fully feel and experience what Sonic does when he runs. Although tough it's probability that a lot of people wouldn't be able to handle it. But interesting thing to imagine regardless.
Thanks for the video Editor and Choc!.
God the voice acting and cutscenes for this game are amazing and even has it's funny moments 🤣. Also yeah Rooftop Run is peak 🙌
you never really get to hear it because dragon road night is like 90% combat, but PLEASE go listen to the dragon road night theme, it's so good. one of my favourites of this game for sure.
in general, the night themes are severely underrated.
Fun fact: Dragon Road Night is less than 3 minutes long if you skip the not mandatory combat sections. My record rn is 2:50 IIRC
Me falling asleep to spagonia hub world night theme for the last few months because it's just that soothing
“It’s alright, we take what we can get.”
You’ll be back
You will see
Sun Medals will cause you misery
The wat you timed your laughter with Eggman's minion at 0:18 was amazing~
I personally feel that Jungle Joyride (Day) is the perfect stage to test all of the skills that you've learned up until that point in the game. The opening of that stage is insane but man does it feel good when you master it.
The thing with Unleashed is that it rewards players who replay through the stage to learn all the alternate paths and techs. You might feel good on your first run through of a stage but trust me, when you really learn the stage and get used to the controls, you genuinely feel like a super sonic hedgehog blasting through these cities at light speed, it's incredible and in my opinion is the fastest Sonic has ever felt.
But in regards to Rooftop Run (Day) it is generally just a really fun stage that offers moderate challenge while also being easy enough to feel fast on your first go. Pair that with the amazingly energetic ost and I can absolutely see why it's a lot of people's favourite stage and why it's been brought back over other Unleased stages. In general though, I think every Day stage and even the night stages are just great and fun to play

Glad to see you're enjoying this game!
Bro this guy is so cultured. He has such great taste in entertainment and is good at referencing them when you never expect it
U know it's a good day when not even 30 seconds into a Choctopus video he explodes into laughter
20:12 was literally a dynamic entry.😂 Chip was on his Naruto Era
Hey choc when you grapple on to ledges you can press A to fling your self upwards like batman in the arkham games when you're using the grapnel gun boost
Also, i would start upgrading other stats like health, shields and unleashed meter to prepare for Eggman Land
BROO I CANT WITH THESE VIDEOS 😂😂😂😂😂 (keep up the good work and I’m a big fan of this game) (also new sub)
I still believe to this day that the Werehog stages are what we would have got if Sega of the time decided to make a 3-D Ristar game. Same stretchy arms, similar climbing and swinging sections, and the same "let's make every platformer mascot into God Of War" trend from that era.
So here’s a really helpful tip for the werehog platforming. Hold the grab button and Sonic will always grab whatever you want him too. I’ve never died from a misgrab after I found this out so I hope you check this comment out. Keep up the great work
U can cheese the first boss by first boosting up to him, wait for him to open his claws and then just boss again, if u boost into him instead of homing attacking u can chain multiple hits together and basically kill him well before he starts anything
Have you ever thought about how the Werehog is actually canonically weaker than regular sonic?
Unleashed is wild because I can play Rooftop Run day and feel like I’ve found a new favorite video game level, and then follow it up with Cool Edge Night, one of the worst levels of any game I’ve ever played
“I should’ve known you’d still be alive.” That line makes me curious how the development of both versions of the game went, because it oddly enough makes more sense in the Wii/PS2 version where the Tornado stages are absent. You’d think all priority would be given to the bigger release. Then again, I’m glad both versions are fun in their own right. Still, I wonder if that was a hiccup or what.
27:37 Shamar is my favorite day stage. The look, the music, it’s just amazing to me.
Is it me or does it look like the humans in this game look like they are in Garfield Gets Real?
I mean...you gotta remember, Choc. Amy mistook Shadow and Silver as Sonic before. I think she really need a glassess 😂😂
I don't care how many critics or how many bugs tear this game apart, it will still be number one in my top 10 3D sonic games
... probably because I didn't play any other 3d sonic game
13:17 that was ODDLY specific, Choc. You wanna……you wanna talk about it????
It’s a pretty common meme
Why would he wanna talk about shitting himself?
Man, i really love your content and i really like a creator of content like you who play games like Sonic without saying "Sonic is bad" every 5 minutes like spanish creators.
I just finished 100% Sonic Frontiers today and this went live today. Today is a good day :)
I am so happy choc is having a good time so far
But i am gonna be scared when he gets to eggman land
I always play with Japanese voices because Sonic does not scream WHOOOAA every 2 seconds if you play in Japanese
oh, that "messed up music" when he got a lousy rank was HILARIOUS!
Fun fact: The reason the oceans are still ok is because Chaos is controling them and stopping them from spilling out. Source? The Archie Comics!
Omg the pipes at 1:58 💀💀💀
Choc is too meta
Hi Choctopus I love this and I hope you have a good day and you are awesome
THE FACT THAT EGGMAN GOT HIT WITH A ROCK IS SO FUNNY FOR NO REASON
Sonic unleashed is like the Monster’s university of Sonic games.
