So, the entire soundtrack sounded off to me for me to learn that only like 3 tracks were replaced… 😅

Actually, it was 7 (if you count both acts of Carnival Night, Ice Cap, and Launch Base). The competition select screen was also originally a Michael Jackson composition, but in Origins they resurrected the November 1993 prototype track to replace it. I actually like that one better, so I'm not upset at all. It's too bad about the other tracks though. Carnival Night has terrible sound quality, Ice Cap sounds good but isn't the same without the original track and Launch Base sounds super squeaky and does not fit the zone at all. What a bummer.

I can understand why you thought all the tracks were replaced. The audio quality for those songs is highly compressed and muffled.
Hey, I just wanted to say that rock in angle island can be past by knuckles.
Seeing him collect each blue sphere individually actually gave me anxiety.

Would've been kinda neat if the final cutscene in Origins was Eggman finding out about Chaos and thus setting up Sonic Adventure 1.

Choc, I gotta tell ya there’s a secret to the blue spheres! Only touch the outline/perimeter of blue orbs in any given grouping, and they’ll all turn into rings. It’s faster and easier :)

Bro for YEARS of playing this game, I NEVER knew how to get to that SP Ring, and this man literally does it first try.

I had always just assumed that it was like part of a Knuckles section or something.
Well to be fair you need Tails to carry you to that Giant Ring so if you’re playing Sonic alone you probably can’t get there unless you have Hyper Sonic probably which at that point they just give you 50 rings for Hyper

Choc, listen to the prototype soundtrack to see how we were STILL robbed when it comes to these replaced tracks. All the tracks sound much better when from the actual Genesis/Mega Drive, rather than through Origins' filtered music system.
Also, Sonic & Knuckles' already-existing replacement tracks were used when possible for between-game jingles, like the mini-boss theme, Knuckles' theme, and the invincibility theme. The 1-up jingle and the title screen theme were kept as Sonic 3's, however.
EDIT: Oh, and the Bonus Stage you go to is based on how many Rings you have when you pass the checkpoint.
The different sound isn't a result of filtering, but the prototype they were taken from. The November 1993 prototype uses later versions of the tracks. Only the Super Sonic theme was newly created for Origins.

So with the Blue Sphere, if you go around the outside perimeter of a group of spheres, the insides and all collected will turn into Rings. Watching you zigsag back and forth hurt my soul.
This is my favourite of the classics, had so much fun with this one, love how it looks, the soundtrack and gameplay, and bosses plus it had the best bound stages (apart from sonic manias bound stages) love the story too, being super sonic and hyper was cool. Happy I was able to beat and get the good ending first try, again thank goodness for the coins. Had a lot of fun playing and beating all these classics. 💙

Yuji Naka confirmed on Twitter regarding the soundtrack that the replaced music tracks (Launch Base, Ice Cap, Carnival Night, and Act 1 Boss) were done by Michael Jackson. The verdict on why they were changed is still out, though; prevailing theories are that Jackson was unsatisfied with the Genesis sound chip's ability to reproduce the music, or that the legal issues surrounding Jackson in the mid 90s caused Sega to terminate the partnership (which may be why he remains uncredited even in releases featuring his music). The only change unrelated to Jackson regarding the music is Ice Cap, which was an at the time unreleased track by Sonic 3 composer Brad Buxer's band, The Jetzons, titled "Hard Times."
I though the legal issues wasn't to do with MJ himself but rather his agent Brad Buxter something?
The contributions by Buxer were just rearranged old songs from his band and old mj songs. Not very original work
0:55 never knew you could get all the chaos emeralds in green hill zone in sonic 2 despite it not being in the game!
A few comments:
1) In the Special Stages, collecting every single ring will give a 50,000 point bonus (essentially a free extra life) and collecting 50 earns a Continue.
2) As far as Hyper Sonic vs Super Sonic, Hyper Sonic has that Hyper Flash that clears the screen and also acts as a directional double jump, but he can also breathe underwater.
3) For the Giant Rings, while all of the Sonic 3 zones have at least one Giant Ring, only the Sonic and Knuckles zones up to and including Lava Reef contain them. So for you to get your 7th Super Emerald in Lava Reef 2 was very lucky, as if you passed without getting it, you'd be screwed.
4) Would you be willing to play the missions? I've heard that they are really fun.
Play as Knuckles, you can break open those locked routes as the echidna

That goal post juggling situation is genuinely one i encountered, me and a friend who was playing as tails were just juggling endlessly to the point where the other friend had to make us fail for it to end, it was going on for a WHILE though
2:24 Not sure anyone mentioned this already here, but you can break through these rocks only with Knuckles. Some levels have these Knuckles-exclusive paths.
Knuckles also has a seperate story taking place after Sonic's. By skipping Knuckles' story, you're skipping the ending of the game.

Honestly thinking of buying origins just for 3 and Knuckles, I played it on my aunt's DS when I was a wee little child, had a lotta fun.
I'd recommend sonic 3 air for better graphics,controls,og music and mods
I have played a lot of Origins and I really recomend it, they added a lot of little details and big quality of life features the Origins Sonic 3 remaster really is the most fun I ever had with Sonic 3

Congrats on completing the Sonic Genesis trilogy! This was a childhood favorite of mine! Probably one of (if not) the best Sonic game in the series, IMO. I think Sega was forced to split the game in half as they couldn't fit the entire game on one cartridge at the time. You have to admit, the lock-on technology was pretty novel back in the 90s.
Could you do Knuckles' story in Sonic 3 & Knuckles next since takes different routes, fights harder bosses, and has a completely different final boss?

As a kid, I knew of the emeralds, but I never knew what they did. Even in sonic 3 where he was super, I didn’t know how it happened
I love the "Cutscenes" in this game, they're just so Expressive and Describe what's happening in such a Good way.
Hey Choctopus, you should play through the Knuckles story of this game. There aren't any scripted cutscenes as it isn't included in the main story for some reason, but it brings the story of Angel Island to a close and is definitely worth a shot for the added challenge!

I love Sonic 3 and Knuckles! I played the original 3 on my DS like 12 years ago and 3 was always my favorite. I played it way more than the other 2. I did 3 by itself, then Knuckles, then played the 2 combined, then played through 3 as Knuckles, then Knuckles as Knuckles, and then the full thing as Knuckles! Good times.
Marble garden zone was definitely my least favorite zone in Sonic 3 and Knuckles
This was definitely the 2D Sonic game I played most as a child. Only ever got Hyper Knuckles 1 (one) time, but he still comes to me in my dreams
The fact that there were so many more amazing games before I was around makes me sad that I wasn't.
Why be sad? The games are there, and if you aren't against emulation, it's never been easier to play them.
I swear this is like, the most perfect Sonic game.
Every other Sonic game's peak runs circles around this game, but those peaks don't stick around as long or as consistently as the ones in Sonic 3 do.
I think this game still has alot they can learn from to this day.

Legitimately I was upset for the longest time that when I played Sonic 3 on the sonic mega collection for the gamecube. I was stuck on that barrel trying to figure out how the hell I was able to get through to the next level when I was younger…
The way Choc does blue sphere stresses me out so much, he's just adding MORE red spheres instead of turning the to rings.

I have never been more triggered by anything else in my entire life than I was watching Choc play the special stages without turning the orbs into rings. He figured it out halfway through the S3 stages... and then forgot again at the start of the S&K stages! I thought I was about to get a second anxiety disorder.

If you touch the top layer of blue spheres in a 4x4, they'll all turn into rings.
It's very useful for chaos/super emerald speedruns :)
A tip for Super/Hyper Sonic:
Press the jump button twice to do a dash mid-air.
It's useful for gaining instant speed.

If any of you are wondering why the big arm boss changes the sky color, it’s because they are still driving up into space, which means that they are basically close to the outer space
Fun fact: ever special stage floor pattern has colors for ever stage in sonic 3 in order expect for the 5th one since that one has colors from flying battery since flying battery was actually going to be the 5th stage in sonic 3 but got moved over to sonic & knuckles

Seeing you getting *ALL* the blue spheres in an unusual fashion instesd of going in circles so you can efficiently get them faster and get rings just triggers my childlike self
in special stag you can go around the edges of the blue groups if 9+ and they turn into rings and dont need to get the ones in middle and there are 6 special stages in marble garden
The stone path on the second stage of the first zone that you were trying to go through is for knuckles
0:50 In the bonus stage you can turn blue balls into rings by tracing the outline of the blue balls around a group. That's how you get a perfect.
You did the blue spheres wrong but good job on getting so many in a row.
If you see a box of blue spheres and you get the outside layer of spheres, the spheres in the middle will turn into rings.

i think it's funny that the placebo effect makes him think angel island is slightly different, because he read about SOME of the tracks being changed, with angel island being one of the ones that DOESN'T have a different song XD
On the blue spheres make sure to on the 3/3 and 4/4 squares only get the ones on the outside so you can get the rings
In the Special Stages, if you only collect the outside blue spheres when there is at least a row of three of them, they will all turn into rings. This makes the stages significantly easier and lets you get more coins/lives.
Hey choc. As someone who thinks sonic is cool and has barely played any sonic games and knows nothing about them, your videos have been a blast to watch and you looked like you were great at the games.

10:31 You managed to get wedged between a wall and the spike weapon, which the game counted as being "crushed," which is one of the three ways Super Sonic can be killed (drowning, bottomless pit, and crushing).
The only zones that Soundtracks were used as the prototypes vers were Carnival Night and Ice Cap Zone plus when Sonic goes Super (maybe Launch Base zone but idk)

You can collect the outside rings in the special stage, saving yourself a lot of time

Ice Cap had the best theme that got removed, but at least it also got the best of the prototype themes. I honestly think the Ice Cap prototype theme is a bop. I think I might have gone a bit insane listening to Carnival Night too, but I think it fits for when the lights are off.
Choc sorry to say but you did the bonus stages wrong if you get every blue orb on the outside of the squares they turn into rings and you can then collect the rings

Choc, the only tracks that changed were Knuckles' theme in the sonic 3 part, Carnival Night, Ice Cap, and Launch base.
I remember never beating this game because I was too scared of the ghosts.
I never found the ghosts scary.
Sandopolis 2 did have a confusing layout tho.
well sonic 3 air has an option to remove the ghosts!
i know, the sonic games got removed from steam unless you bought it already, but you can use a rom from other sources like a genesis cart.
if you havent got around to beating it still or want to replay it its considered the best version by most of the fanbase.

Those rock's on Angel Island act 1, you gotta destroy then with Knuckles, it leads to his exclusive path on act 2
The path at 2:24 requires knuckles to break through and you get to knuckles' own area, im pretty sure
I've certainly been Sonic 3 & Knuckles back-2-back between Sonic Jam & Origins. And...it's hard to shake off the luxury offered by Normal mode in Sonic Jam. And the added Super Transformation button in Origins.
Both definitely made Sonic 3 & Knuckles greater than great. I'd say...Supreme Goodness. And I'm still playing Sonic 3 this very second.
If you make a red sphere ring around other blue spheres you can get rings and get more stuff

To somewhat answer your question about Super Sonic + Speed Shoes, it actually slows you down. I don't know the exact reason though, but you do indeed slow down if you get the Speed Shoes as Super Sonic.
