- This ultra rarity is from Amsterdam, filmed on 24th May 1982. Only this scene is available... I don't have any more of this performance.
This amazing video comes from a truly amazing, kind and generous Sutherland fan who shared it with me.
Incredible footage of the greatest coloratura soprano of all time.Stupendous!
Extraordinary how the sound just pours out of her!
in 1982 she could still sing all the colouratura, the accuti, and could STILL do a dramatic 'fall'. What couldn't she do?! BRAVA
Hearing her “live” was one of the greatest experiences imaginable. Her voice was simply ENVELOPING. Her flexibility was astonishing, and her high notes, like this stupendous high Eb, were titanic. She was also very gracious to us fans backstage, patiently signing autographs and letting us adore her. La Stupenda indeed.
great way to start the new year, with a Sutherland Eflat !
Incredible!!!!! That instrument , that lady…. Happy new year to me…! Thanks always, dear Dix
Thank you so much! There will never be a greater Lucia, her signature role, which she sang for 29 wonderful years.
I also saw her as Lucia in 1982, but at the Met. The tix were so hard to get that I enrolled in an opera appreciation class at a local college to obtain them. I had already seen Sutherland onstage since 1973, but this Met appearance was after a long absence. She was as great as ever, and I’m trying to think of another big voice that actually gained in brilliance, the higher it went.
Maravillosa La Stupenda😍
Has anyone ( including the handwringing Maria) ever had loving and touching curtain calls, all kindness and sweet, like Joan… the divine , humble Stupenda!
Inarrivabile!!!
Merci pour ce chant miraculeux
BraVa!!!!!!
No one like her!
Her Sempre libera - and Traviata in general - began my love of Opera - in 1973!
😎😎😎
Totally and completely incredible! Love her to pieces and nothing/no one can replace her. Thank you for the video!
Truly amazing!
Bravísima!!!!!!
❤❤❤
👏👏👏💯💯💯
Lucky Amsterdam. She's in phenomenal voice here. For the life of me I can't understand the baritone and bass at the end of the scena. The bass ignores her when she approaches and the baritone looks upstage for the Eb. Maybe they'd been in the dark too long.
She was 55 and her voice was still so strong and secure !
👏👏👏👏👏👏👏
Joanie always gave 100%
