@@Hotgirldrea so what I did was tape off the throttle and blow cigar smoke into it. Sure enough I had a leak coming from behind the upper intake. Took it all apart and ordered new gaskets. Works better but still have a leak somewhere im sure.

    • @1970chevelle396

You always have to have the car turned off when you use the smoke machine. You can hook it up anywhere that gets into the intake manifold for finding vacuum leaks

    • @1970chevelle396

The best hose to use is the hose that goes to the brake booster. But you can use any vacuum hose that goes to the intake manifold.

So I’m thinking about getting one of these, but I’ve got a 2000 Chevy with aftermarket air intake. Not sure the easy intake inflates enough. Another thing, I don’t understand how that works with the butterfly closed? Maybe that’s a silly question to be asking, but my knowledge of the vacuum system is limited. I just know I need to test it.

What if you do this and the only place smoke comes out of is your oil fill cap? Does that mean I have no leaks? Or does that suggest I have bigger issues like worn or unseated rings? Car was freshly rebuilt and its bucking/hesitating badly from 2100-3200rpm.

    • @1970chevelle396

Ok your hooking it up to find vacuum leaks. I thought it was the other video you were commenting on. A little bit of smoke will get past the rings and the pcv valve. So it’s normally to have some smoke around the oil cap

I have an electric throttle body. 2003 Mazda 6i 2.3 l. I would guess someone would have to step on the gas pedal to open the throttle body metal plate for the smoke to go through. I've heard you can blow cigarette or cigar smoke through a tube put a disposable glove over the opening where the intake goes to the manifold cut a little hole in the tip of the finger of the disposable glove and put the tube on there tighten it with rubber band or tie strips and do it that way. But in my case I would definitely have to have someone step on the gas pedal for the smoke to go through
