    Ik this videos from a year ago, but I have a 99 740il with a possible leak. Would I be able to use the same smoke machine if my battery is in the rear? Would they happen to make these machines designed with wall sockets?

    Another awesome video, i bought myself one off amazon (not identical to yours but same idea, with a pressure guage) to find my vacuum leak in my 330i. Do i just remove the airbox and connect it to the pipe after the MAF sensor? Keep these hugely helpful videos up!
    That's also a beautiful v12

    Great video! What hose was the smoke machine connected to? For other car makes, where could you connect a smoke machine to?

    I absolutely agree with your sensible comments about Vaico parts. We've all done it though - gone quality aftermarket and found something is just not right. Some parts just have to be genuine BMW.

    • @GeorgeAusters
      @GeorgeAusters  Рік тому

      Agreed, and definitely even more so with this engine where very little aftermarket parts even exist!

    Putting OEM parts back on is where your better response came from. Many times worn OEM still perform better than cheap replacements ;D

    Ace... loved the smoke test. Would this work with a possible boost leak on a 520d?

    Good thing to remember, first test. Then throw away used parts. Not the other way around

      Yeah I very rarely throw parts away if they're still in working order, just in case!

    I've been through this and enjoyed watching you do the same. Suggestion: use the 3 on-board diagnostics to assess the engine under vacuum ("only" at idle, because of valvetronic). (1) MAP balance. The left and right banks operate at different intake pressures. I'm off by 10mBar between bank 1 & bank 2. (2) O2 sensor additive Lambda, this will tell you rich the engine is at idle, if you've got a manifold leak, the additive Lambda will go high. If you sustain additive Lambda of 4.0 or greater, the CEL is displayed. (3) Smooth running values should be a mainstay of your diagnostics. If you've got a lagging cylinder (-0.5 or greater), keep an eye on it. An "Italian tune up" often cleans up the smooth running values. I'll trade numbers with you if you're interested. Thanks for the vids.

      Hi Mate, could you tell me which specific tests did you run in ISTA+?

    • @mikeshifflette8655
      @mikeshifflette8655 Рік тому +1

      @@kuleg Compare DME1 to DME2 if you suspect an intake plenum leak. Under "smooth running values," select 1-6 (DME1) and 7-12 (DME2). Anything under +/-0.5 is good. If DME1 and DME2 are very different, you may have a plenum leak. Under "general (I think)" select intake manifold pressure; expect 650 - 700mbar. If DME1 and DME2 are close, (+/- 20mbar), that's good. Under "oxygen sensor..." select additive lambda, it should be -0.5 to about 2. If it gets to 4, the CEL will come on. If additive lambda on DME1 and DME2 are about the same (+/- 0.5) you're probably good.

      @@mikeshifflette8655 thank you very much! I’ll be looking for vacuum leaks in F10 and I think there’s no DDE2 anymore. I hope the rest of things will be available to check

    There is an old saying, if it isn't broke don't fix it.

    • @GeorgeAusters
      @GeorgeAusters  Рік тому +2

      Not how I like to run things however.. You could just wait until you have misfires before swapping out the spark plugs etc but I’d rather be ahead of the game👍🏻

      @@GeorgeAusters I Agree routine maintenance Service parts at the right mileage or time is the key to a long engine life, the company print what needs to be done and when, the rest is fix when it broken it will tell you when is getting close to failure.
