- How many remember Southpole Clothing? Or what about Lot 29? Did you even know they were owned by the same people?
Baggy jeans, loud bold graphics, typical late 90s rap fashion. If you were coming up in the late 90s and early 2000s, then chances are you do.
In the days just prior to the official introduction of streetwear, logo heavy rap fashion ruled the pack, and brands like Southpole and later Lot 29 offered the look and feel, but at much cheaper prices than all of the leading brands of the day.
So how did it go wrong? How did a brand like Southpole and their sister label Lot 29 go from a respectable lower price alternative, to virtual obscurity? Well, let's find out.
I'm Nate the Great from TakeFlight214.com and this is the rise and fall of Southpole Clothing: From Baggy jeans to Busted dreams.

Love the vid! My older brother (RIP) had one of his yearbook photos taken in a red, white, and blue Southpole shirt which he begged our mom for.

Thank you for your videos...keep up the great work!....You are doing a great job!!....When I saw the Oak Cliff image early in the video, Big Tuck popped into my head!..."Southside is da' Realest...im'a make ya' feel it!"
“Who said that we ain’t dope dealing wizards, car changing colors like chameleon lizards” Ayyyy 🙌🏽
I loved their clothing and often wondered what happened to them. Thank you.
We always clapped on people who wore South Pole when I was in school..😂😂 it was always a no go.
It was Mecca, rp55, dlo , nautica
I went to high school N chicago in the 90s and ain't NOBODY wear South Pole. By 2000 or 2001 U find S.P. at discount stores for a couple dollars
0:40 😂😂😂 I could 100% tell they were the same but never rocked either. In my area of the country they was a no-go, like U.S.P.A. & Beverley Hills Polo
I’ve been waiting for this episode. I had a Lot 29 outfit for Grad Weekend!
Yep totally remember them to the point that there were knockoffs of their jackets called Northpole (strange but true) I didn't know Southpole was still around though. You should do a mini doc of PONY shoes & Parasuco jeans & Paco jeans though, that would be dope.
Crazy how you did a video on these brands , back to school in 2001 to start the year my mom got me a Lot29 outfit & a SouthPole sweatsuit . I was in middle school. Loved them
Get compliments on the Southpole sweaters I STILL wear to my business casual style job. 💪🏼
Man i used to rock both southpole and lot 29 I loved the tee's from lot29
I've never heard of it, but it looks cool and vintage!
They got fire reversible puffer jackets👌🏼
Used to wear all their clothes. Their shirts was cut perfectly for people with big shoulders. It lasted for years under multiple washes. Love to have a few vintage shirts
I still get Southpole shoes, British Knights, L.A. Gear and other Urban brands from city trends, gabe's, Marshall, Burlington.
Can u do girbaud jeans
We’ll add them to the list
My dude
Classic
I had a Marvin the Martian lot29 sweater. Wore tf out of it
I remember wearing south pole as a kid the collared shirts too lol
My era was 97, 98 I know they had a resurgence in the mid 2000s but my style had changed by then.
I worked for a Korean Family on Jamaica Avenue and they sold mostly south pole.I would never be caught wearing south pole or Beverly hills polo club
Rise????? When in the hell was it ever up
What about doing a video on K-swiss and Etonics.
We’ve got K Swiss on the list
I remembered rocking southpole when I was in middle school. It was the last time baggy was in style before fitted came into the picture. I used to love rocking baggy clothes because of the street vibe it gave off, but now I can't rock baggy clothes anymore because they don't fit my physique well and the baggy pants would cover my shoes which always bothered me because I love sneakers. I would still like to rock southpole clothing if they have any styles available in fitted and not baggy because the baggy look isn't appealing to me anymore. This is what happens as you get older.
Do SOHK loved that brand 😢
The funny thing is since Southpole's inception, it was always wack. You couldn't be caught dead wearing Southpole. We'd just wear what Southpole was copying. I remember Lot 29 too but I had aged out by that time cause I was already late teens early 20's when we was making fun of Southpole lol.
Mecca clothes do a video on it
Mecca and Enyce 😌
E-nice
Azzure Jeans too
Can you do enyce
Bet, we’ll add them to the list. I plan to go through all the older brands
DADA, Karl Kani, Ecko, some good brands to do
We did Karl Knai and Ecko already, we’ll add dada to the list though
How do you feel about theTariff's that's about to affect clothing
Can you please do a video on prps jeans
We’ll add them to the list
Miss lot29
I had the cleanest Lot 29 short set it was grey and navy blue with Daffy Duck on it and went perfectly with the Flint 13s and I had a flint blue Yankee fitted you couldn’t tell me nothing
@Vondashusband IK that fit was tuff
Do Gino Green Global next
I always thought southpole was lame
YOU MUST DO EVISU JEANS, MISKEEN AND ENYCE
Nobody wore south pole besides people who didn’t know any better😂🤣😭
I had 2 pieces of South Pole but LOT 29 me and that brand had heavy heavy ties
I still wear it matter fact im bout to cop a new fit
Also stay consistent bro the algorithm is pushing you
Also shout out to the Stiff Cliff ! 214
Ayyyyyy ✊🏽
If u had South Pole on now …you’d be fly just cuz nobody has anything South Pole
My issue with SP were they would always have nice shirts and sweaters, but having that god awful big bold logo written across it would keep me from buying . At that time SP was on the decline and unless you were the eses, you wouldn't be caught dead reppin SP . One of the reasons I went back to wearing Ralph Lauren, Tommy, Nautica . Especially Ralph Lauren it's timeless ..
Should have stopped at $100 million and sold to Iconix like everrrryyyybody else 🤣
Shein should do a minimalism collab with shein lol
ED HARDEY
Share support Hit the like button I don't think you did one on PACO brand urban gear

Nobody wore this 💩
Back then if you wore these you were A BUM and a Joke even if they were brand new 😂😂😂😂
Naw fam, u could make it with a South Pole shirt or jeans as long as ur kicks were 🔥 😂
South Pole was in when I was in school but we really was more on Ecko Nautica,Rocawear Sean John ,phat farm. But when Lot 29 dropped we was on that heavy like 05-07. The good ol days
South Pole was the ish…….
fast fashion ruined individuality and quality
I was able to pick up a few Tees at Anchor Blue back in the day
