Best Earbuds For Riding Motorcycles

- Here we test multiple brands of earbuds with the goal of finding which ones provide the following:
1) Hearing protection and isolation from wind and road noise
2) Comfort under helmet
3) Work with communications units (Cardo/Sena)
4) Good sound for comms, music, and talk radio/podcasts
Not sure if you both are trying to grow the channel, but to me if you guys could add the timestamps wether it be in the description or on the actual video, that would increase the value 10 fold. I just purchased the earbuds you guys recommended and would love to see you guys thrive. Quality over quantity all day on UA-cam. Good luck!
How have th earbuds been over the last year?
Then people wouldn't watch the full video
@Ace01010 better than clicking off immediately because of no time stamps. Which is what im doing, now.
@@MV-vv7sg Still use them. They work great 👍
Thank you for this earbud test. You did a great job. The scoring table at the end was a big help.
Great video. I'm also really impressed with your cordless hole punch collection!
Thanks for taking the time to put this together. The chart in the end really helps gauge everything to summarize everything that was tested.
Motorcycle content with a lot of 2A going on in the background…. Yeah I’m subscribing 😎
This was unbelievably helpful, thank you! I was stuck in that review vortex you mentioned at the beginning of the vid, this helped TREMENDOUSLY.
I was most impressed with the guns on Summer. Wow! Nice arms.
It’s a hot Summer 😁
I used the earbuds that came with my phone a few years ago, and radians earplug kit. The combo created a custom molded earbud set that works great on long rides.
Excellent job on this video comparison. For so many years Etymotic was the choice of m'cycle earbuds which were good in the day but not cheap.
They all break eventually...but for the price I just ordered the M6 Pro. I still prefer wires to my helmet. They are like those strings your mom tied to your winter mittens so you wouldn't lose them .
I got Shures long before I got a motorcycle, and the wires fit well on my ears, but you aren't alone in not liking them. I also use them for listening to music when I'm off the bike, and they really shine for that. Another plus is now they have good BT adapters, so you can switch between wired & wireless. But if people don't care about all that, then yeah the M6 is probably a better choice.
I didn’t know they had wirelesss adaptors for the shure headphones. I’ll need to check that out. Nothing beats the shure iem heafphones.
M6 Pro, ill have to give them a try. Thanks for the unbiased an non sponsored video refreshing
Thank you, I've been waiting for a real world test like this for some time now!
Really helpful review, just what I was looking for 👍
great vid! loved your assistent, she is very knowledgeable and funny.
Thank you for such a detail review. I ordered the M6 Pro based upon your recommendation. I wanted to check your other latest videos only to notice that you guys have not produced any new videos. Please do so. Thank You.
My experience with the with the Mi 6 pro using Shoei X fourteen was terrible, very difficult to remove helmet.
The ones that worked for me :
Sennheiser CX1.0 , CX3.0 and klipsch T5M - comfrtable , very nice sound and decent sound isolation .
CX1.0 the most comfortable earbuds due to low profile with nice bass and sound isolation , CX3.0 are slightly sound better but less comfortable due to a larger earbud profile .
The Klipsch sounds great on the mids and highs but no so comfortable due to long shape of the earbud.
Thanks for those recommendations. We’re getting ready to test wireless ones so I’ll add the Sennheisers to the list. Any others you’d like to see tested? Sorry about replying from our main channel. Full Throttle Family is our family channel we do for fun and for non-tactical topics/products. Thanks, Gary
Thank you for taking the time to address this! Wife and I have been riding our bikes for over a decade (all lower-48 states, 15k miles/yr, through everything from 114deg Texas heat to 30deg Colorado peaks) with Shure SE-215 (hers) and SE-315 (his). They are both still working great (speaks to durability), comfortably (wife uses the smallest tips), and the sound is very good for comms and music. We were using them with Starcom1 wired systems (best motorcycle comm system ever - now out of business unfortunately), and now with Cardo PackTalk Bold (poor excuse for a moto comm system). All the BT systems that have taken over the market now are junk compared to Starcom1. Same as GoPro was junk compared to Contour when they out-marketed them way back when. Either way, Shure earbuds worked perfectly, and they should since they are designed to be used as musician monitors for stage performances. Any earbud that doesn't have the formable wire section and fit over the ear will be a bad choice - they must be designed (like Shure) with a shape-holding wire that loops over the ear, so they aren't pulled out when putting the helmet on or moving around on the bike in the twisties. I wouldn't even consider an IEM for helmet use unless it has this feature. And that Bose battery box... come on guys, that's rediculous for motorcycle use - another thing to manage.
Awesome video. Visual/audio superb. Content/info super helpful. I'm subscribing.
Old video by now... But I noted the comments about the Bose QC20s and the popping noise. I have a friend who has those earbuds and he noted some time ago that the popping noise was his chief complaint with them. I bumped into him just the other day and this topic came up again in our conversation. I asked him if he was still having the popping issue and he said no. As long as he was listening to music there was no popping. Interesting. He's also commented about how effective the active noise cancellation is.
After watching your video and suffering with some KZ20 IEMs, I gave the M6 Pros a try with a Packtalk Black. They turned out to be really good. I ordered a shorter cord that was only about a foot long, so that I didn’t have so much cord to deal with and I discovered that the company can make custom ear tips for $200 at the time. I had to get impressions made at a local audiologist. They were scanned and 3d printed. Once they have impressions on file, they can make replacements for much less and they can make them for their other, more expensive models if I decided to upgrade to more or better drivers per ear. I got a pair for my wife and I don’t think that she has put in enough work in getting the right size ear tip because they keep falling out of her ears. The custom tips fit really well, but it took a little while to get food at removing them.
Guys... An excellent video... If u could make a vlog setup involving both the buds and the communicator... Would be more helpful... One of the videos i actually found no BS... Straight to the point and well set up... Kudos my friends...
I have found that I am just replacing wind noise with the Occlusion affect from the engine sound unless I get an ear plug that goes deep enough to fill enough of the cavity of my ear canal. The occlision affect to me at least is even worse than the wind noise. My ears ring after a ride. My solution was to go with a Hybrid Earplug/Earbud that is meant for loud work areas. These go deep in the ear canal. Hope this helps someone.
What brand, or is that something custom made?
Do those also struggle staying in while putting the helmet on?
@@honeybadgerwrx not at all. They stay in very well
I had the same occlusion issue with a lot of different earplugs. Shure's yellow foam tips on their SE earbuds wound up working best for me. Their black foam tips are a bit of a tradeoff (slightly better on wind noise, slightly more occlusion) but I like them too.
Very good point referring to you really don't hear things anyhow, besides maybe listening for an emergency vehicle, in which you should see before you hear it if you are paying attention as a rider. If you rely on hearing mostly, then you probably shouldn't be riding . Love the Background Brother
Would love to see a product list in the description.
Thanks for the review guys. Exactly what I was looking for
Kewl beans. Enjoyed your testing style. Suggest a schedule for publishing your videos since it appears you are trying to get it growing instead of just hobby posting.
Thanks, I appreciate the advice. Unfortunately it's a time management challenge. We have our primary UA-cam channel Paramount Tactical that we do post to regularly. We do want to build this channel up but it will have to be a spare time effort for now. We appreciate you watching. Hopefully you subscribed and I hope to see you in the comments often! -Gary
i have tried them all... the Beats Fit Pros work the best....they stay in your ears and keep the seal tight....FTW
Bone conduction earphones are the correct answer. Of coarse you can hear two tonne cars around you but yes your visuals cover 90% of your awareness. I need 100%.
2:10 Nah bruh, hearing is one of the most important senses to know what's going on around you. I mean, why would we have ears otherwise?
I purchased and just rec'd the Mee A6Pros, as I have a three year old Bose QC20. As of a few weeks ago, I ride a BMW 1300 and use an older HJC rpha 70 helmet. I played the same song at its beginning (Irene Wilde), which is fairly quiet as it's a ballad. I properly fit (tried refitting several times to be sure) the Mee A6 Pros using the direct connect to my Cardo unit (I paid for the more expensive Mee with the bluetooth headset too jic). It was not even close. The Bose was sooo much better at being able to hear and quieting the loud boxter engine. I can't fathom how ya'll rated the Mees equal to the discontinued Bose. The only advantages I see are the loop around your ear should avoid the plug getting loose, and the fact they are still in production. But one can still get the Bose...in fact, after this test, I've ordered another Bose QC20 in case my current pair develop an issue.
Can you please put the links to the ear buds you rated the best please.
Check out those guns, and I don't mean the ones on the wall!!!💪🏽✌🏽
Great video; thank you!! One question though... what did you guys to with all the extra wire once you got your helmet on? I have a Sena 20S that I'll be plugging in to and did you basically just stuff it up in to the helmet after you put it on so its not flowing in the breeze?
Exactly what I was looking for. Thanks!
Thanks for making this video, been looking for something for my sena. Great video!!!
Great video! Your wife has some pipes, damn!!
Would you be able to make a video on how you tuck all the wiring in / leave the earbuds in the helmet when you’re done? Do you first put the earbuds in your ear and then put on the helmet and have a lot of extra wire to deal with? I’m practicing this now and find that if I put on the earbuds prior, I need a lot of extra wire sticking out from the helmet and sometimes my helmet pushes the earbuds out of my ears anyways.
Surely these are not left in the helmet at all but put on completely separately and then the helmet slips on top? I just bought the kzt model with a Bluetooth amplifier. The reason for this is because my helmet is a snug fit and I cannot have the built in speakers from typical Bluetooth devices. Wireless headphones don’t work either as they fall out, often leaving me with sound in only 1 ear quite often . Then when removing them , they fall off and if the come out of the helmet can hit the ground and break.
Have you tested the IASUS Extreme Noise Reduction Earbud Kit ?
Any update 3 years down the road? Still the same opinions?
They r gone in covid sorry for them
Have you tried a SHOEI AIR GT2 with a SENA made especially made for it ?
I have this combo and it works pretty good.
Thanks a million for this! Have you tried the Plugphone Liberate 2.0?
Y'all did fantastic! Great job with the reviews.
Great video, you should put affiliate links in the description so viewers can help your channel. Thank you
I use Bose QC 30. I got them refurbished. They work great. You consider them or other Bluetooth options?
When do they cover which comms systems they used? That’s the only detail I need.
I just ordered the M6 Pros to give them a try. Ill let you know my thoughts
Did you guys review Gen2 of the M6 Pro or were these Gen1? I noticed that the new ones are larger and am now wondering if the M6 Pros would still be a good choice.
So is the microphone sound coming from the cardo or the earbuds? I cant believe this is how motorcycles bluetooth work...
Have you tried taking the air pod pros switching the earbuds from right to left and upside down? Very comfortable. Also you have noise reduction, transparency, live listen. Also your wife’s frequency will come in clearly LOL!
Alpine ear plugs first, then my Sena 50s with included pads to keep the speakers closer to your ears.I wear a half helmet and talk on the phone.I know, only if some one calls they do not know I am on a motorcycle.
my wife rides her own bike she has a half helmet with Sena 30K as older riders it’s a great way to look out for each other. The speakers need to really be center of your ear for best sound
1/2 helmet? Why bother?
Bro, I came to for answers and got called out on buying a 2014 Vrod a week ago in the first 20secs
ok, I tried out the mi 6 pros with my shoes RF-1400 and it took me some practice to get the helmet on without having the headphones forced off my ear, but it sounds good to me. I am going to have to keep on practicing.
Active noise canceling only works up to a certain decibel so I think that is why the Bose were popping.
Hello! Did you completly quit creating content?
Yes
Great video. Thats a ton of guns, bud.
Excellent job on the breakdown of these products. Very helpful and direct!
What's that sniper in the centre behind you!!???
You guys should try skull candy wireless earbuds
I use the Bose QC 30's through a AirFly Pro Bluetooth adaptor and Cardo..awesome noise cancelation and audio. Just hard to get helmet over them , like any earbud. I use a headband over them top to under chin to slide helmet on and off..looking for a better way to do that. Thanks for your video!
How are you talking I to the m6 pro's?
Surprised that there were no links to the products tested.
Thanks for doing these comparisons. I am looking to get some. How does the Mee M6 Pro attach to the Cardo Packtalk Edge?
What caused the popping noise in the bose? Did it pop with the noise cancelling turned off.
Ive watched the video twice. Im not sure what you guys are doing here. Are you using the headphones alone? Are you using them in addition to comms in helmet?
I'm seeing guns in the background and you evidently ride .....my type of folks 😁
Still the same recommendation? Btw thanks for the video 👍🏻
Careful with the mee m6 pro if you have an aux adapter intercom system that is 2.5mm you will need an adapter
Sold me on the M6. Thank you for the info.
I ride a Bandit 1200 S (Yoshimura, KN) with a HJC helmet (the cheap IS17). It is just unbearable as soon as you reach 50 mph. The noise from the exhaust and carbs inlet is not significant unless you push the throttle wide open. So it's mostly wind noise. I usually ride with custom molded ear plugs. I gave the MEE a try and it was deceptive....I still have to find a real noise effective ear bud set, allowing me to ear intercom/GPS...and no noise...
Try comply ear foam tips and sony MDR EX 110AP work great and disposable lol
M6 Pro you should have mentioned if bluetooth
Thanks for this video.
Edit to initial comment
What com system do you use and the buds connected directly to the com with no issues? Also what about the mic? Still able to use initial com system mic?
Thanks for the info!
They connect to a 3.5mm jack. We have the Cardo Packtalk but I know Sena uses the same and I’m pretty sure most brands use a 3.5mm jack as well. I’ve been using the M6 Pros daily and I like them more every time I ride with them. Thanks for watching! -Gary
Yep, you can still use the comm mic. 👍
I use Sony MDR EX110AP with comply memory foam tips and Cardo edge. Tried too many like you that failed miserably.
Remember the good old days when real bikers just put in ear plugs and listened to the music in their heads?
Ok boomer!! 😜
I think the situational awareness that comes along with ear buds or listening to music is no different with motorcycles as it is in cars. Only with motorcycles it is a little more detrimental. you get lost in the moment and zone out with hearing things in your ear. Could be music, phone calls, or talk radio.....you are going to not concentrate on the road. It as little to do with what you are listening to or how and more to how you handle being aware when you ride or drive. There is a deeper psychological explanation but for us simple folks....you listen to stuff you dont see stuff. It means more to work on your ability to be more aware....no matter what you are doing.
Great vid. Would love to see a video about wireless headphones. I currently use Powerbeats pro when riding and the only drawback is I have to remove the headphones before removing the helmet.
We’ll look into that. The only issue is I don’t think any of the current comm systems will link to wireless buds without a external Bluetooth adapter.
@@paramounttactical just link them to your phone!
@@JoaoMPSilva13 the point of this was to find earbuds that are compatible with a comms unit. We plan on testing wireless earbuds in the near future. Full Throttle Family is our family channel where we play around with non-tactical gear and subjects. Thanks for watching. -Gary
@@paramounttactical ohh fair enough! Looking forward to it, hope you can compare the sony and samsung ones!
@@JoaoMPSilva13 the Sony WF-1000XM4’s are on the list. Which Samsungs?
Awesome and informative video! How are y’all connecting the earbuds? And how can I get a microphone connected to it too? I have a Ruroc Atlas 4.0 which has wires already running through for the shockwave system so one side has a plug for audio and microphone to connect directly to Bluetooth. I’m interested in the M6 Pro but would like to still be able to make phone calls and communicate! Thanks!
Popping from the nose usually means you didn't have the right size foamie to fit your rear allowing noise through and the NC can't regulate. Cheers
Hi, i am only interested in wind noise reduction. Is Bose earbuds better for that than quality earplugs?
Appreciate the video, I subscribed.
Molded earplugs or earplugs in general will get rid of the wind noise and you will hear music/comms way better.
"Cars are almost soundproof, we don't hear a lot from them to begin with."
- A deaf motorcyclist.
Great video, unboxing could’ve been seperate 😎👍🏽
So I have to buy a "comms system" now too? Are there no wireless earbuds? No phones now have aux ports
In many states you are legally required to have one ear open to hear sirens, horns, etc.
Hi really like the content. By any chance did you test if the comm system is degrading sound quality vs direct connect to your phone? I know the wire will get in the way if you mount on the bars but I'm thinking those comm systems have bad music processing. Thanks!
Why no links to the products?
I have the Bose and they are cool especially when you stop and hit the switch you can chat with the bypass mic in the box without taking your helmet off. You're problem is the noisy HJC overpowered the cancelling power and you get the clicking you spoke of. My Shoei RF 1200 is said to be a bit quieter and it pops just a bit at 60 or so and a flip up is supposed to cure it. Maybe but I havent got that far yet. ;
If you could please make a video showing how you got these to stay in while putting the helmet on or if you put helmet on and then fished them to your ears. I know these are the solution to my problem but can't seem to get them to stay while putting helmet on.
Has someone tried the Sennheiser IE 200 in a helmet by any chance? They are a good competitor to the Shure with an even smaller design.
Fantastic video! Thanks for sharing.
I want the mee m6 pro but my phone does not have a audio jack :(
Great vid, earned a sub. Look forward to more content. I was looking more for multipurpose earbuds, not for use with something like a cardo, but for like when I’m in the semi(trucker here) as well as in the helmet. AirPods Pro just don’t stay in my here once they get to the speaker pocket with the stem pushing it out of alignment. Solo rider so commas isn’t really a thing for my use case though. Great info all the same. Thanks guys!
Ok so I’m watching the video and thinking she looks familiar. Then I see your riding near Martinsburg and I used to live up there. But I think I have seen you guys before because of spartan races or you own a gym up there and my friend knows you guys.
New Sub, informative, however I would like to see the actual install, what do you do with all the excess wires and do you fit them inside your ear then put on your helmet, or after? I am seriously hearing impaired, the high speed JBL Speakers that came with my CARDO are completely useless. I found a generic pair of ear buds and have been using them, however putting them in my ears then the helmet is AWKWARD! am I missing something?
The ones you recommend (M6 Pros) hurt my head behind my ears where the cable gets clamped between my ears and my head in my Shoei helmet. I really wanted these to work.
cool! muscles!!
(yeah, I know. Off-topic comment, but I couldn't resist. Good job!)
Are you using these for phone calls? I'm confused
@fullthrottlefamily9928 are you guys making content elsewhere? Y’all seem great and I’d love to see your opinions on other things.
Thank you for the video. What type of receiver do you recommend with the M6 pros?
I have a friend who swears by Klipsch noise-canceling earbuds for riding. Do you have any opinion on these?
