    The pistol is a plasma pistol. Plasma weapons have a tendency to overheat which is why in part 4 after firing the gun the Marine drops the gun after firing 2 shots and you hear the metal deck sizzle.

    14:08 Armour is Ceramite "Ceramite is a form of heat and shock-resistant ceramic material that is widely used throughout the Imperium of Man. High-quality Ceramite is used in the higher-quality types of Imperial infantry, vehicle and aircraft armour, including Carapace Armour, Power Armour and Terminator Armour. High-quality Ceramite is also used to provide additional protection for the vehicles of the Adeptus Astartes. Ceramite is capable of absorbing and dissipating even the most extreme thermal and directed-energy attacks, and conducts many other forms of electromagnetic radiation in such a way as to disperse it across a wide area. This makes Ceramite especially effective at providing protection against directed-energy and particle-based weapons. Lower-quality Ceramite is also used to mass-produce cheap Flak Armour for the Astra Militarum. An inexpensive and sturdy building material widely used across the Imperium consists of pulp wood formed around a core of low-grade Ceramite. This material is used for the construction of the low-cost prefabricated housing blocks prevalent on many Imperial Hive Worlds."

    My favorite moment is when the lead Astartes pulls the plasma pistol to take out the multi-las emplacement. The camera follows the pistol in a beautiful smooth arc and the smoke being blown away in the plasma bolt's path is amazingly done. You definitely get a feel that Astartes in particular is a long service veteran, which is borne out in episode 5 when he removes his helmet. The three studs above his eye denote service length. The gold almost certainly denotes 100 years, and the silver can be between 10 and 50 for a total of at least 120 years.

    The wheeled weapon is a multi laser, very high rate of fire but low penetration weapon which is part of the reason he can take so many hits. Good for shipborne defence a lot of the time because it won’t cut through the hull but it’s not great against Astartes.
    The weapon that destroys the multi laser is a plasma pistol which fires a bolt of super heated plasma. Very destructive but difficult to produce and maintain and they have a bad habit of overheating if stressed (probably why he dropped it while charging the psyker).
    There are tonnes of other cool little details like the names of the Astartes appear on their right pauldrons.

    Oh, and as one literally final detail from Part 4, when both the rebel leaders are dead, the two Marines stand up and sheath their knives in nearly perfect synch... with just that 1/10s separation to make the scene feel real, not like an animated one, where the unseen puppetmaster could have made it perfect, with the uncanny valley effect that would have ensued

  • @palasta
    @palasta 4 роки тому +11

    16:24 I guess this is also interesting from a film maker perspective (which i'm not). The way it is cut to convey what is happening in this one second scene when the psyker turns around and knocks the bolt pistole out of the marines hand. First zoom out, the full turn of the psyker ending with his back to the camera to the point where he got rid of the pistole and his upper body and arm have completed the motion, then cut showing a close up with the pistole still grasped by hand getting knocked out, and another cut to the psykers front completing his action and again seeing how the pistole gets knocked away.
    I think this technique is actually explained in one of the videos made by Every Frame A Picture. A video titled "Jackie Chan - How to Do Action Comedy" ua-cam.com/video/Z1PCtIaM_GQ/v-deo.html

  • @Ghostly_One1

    Even the first part is full of detail if one knows to look for it, such as what could very well be the inquisitor in part 5 passing by at the end of the hallway, and the marine's bolter activating when he blesses it (the light flickering on). Quite fascinating really; in 40k belief is basically power, to the point if enough people believe in something it probably will end up coming true. The "machine spirit" is one of these, humans believing every human piece of tech has a spirit of its own that has to be appeased and coaxed to cooperation with the proper ceremonies and such. In some cases there's actual pseudo-AI technology in there and the rites used coincidentally involve the proper beyond ancient forgotten voice commands, while in the rest its a pure construction of faith.

    @halla9538 4 роки тому +8

    Its difficult to see, so i think you missed the part with the high caliber rifle (the sniper guy) shooting at the astartes. The last astartes stops and goes back, if you go frame by frame you can see the astartes apear next to the sniper and the reason the astartes fired two shots was because theres a second guy behind the sniper. You can barely see the astartes and i didnt notice the second sniper till i went and watched it in slow motion.
    ill link the time for you, 4:08, to the imediate left of your facecam you can see the second sniper, with the first on the gun above your cam.
    4:13 you have to go frame by frame effectively, id recommend starting at 4:12. You can just see the astartes appear only with the muzzleflashes and i love the way the snipers cape is affected with every shot.

    When the Astartes changes hand position on the knife before stabbing the dude in the face it looks like the knife's pummel is going through his left hand.
    The armor is made of a material called "Ceramite" iirc it's fiction
    The bullets are equivalent to 0.75 cal (.25cal more than current anti-armor guns aka .50cal) are rocket propelled and packed with explosives.
    These guys are basically able to pick up a car and throw it at you.
    The laser fast firing gun is using laser weaponry which is infamously useless in the 40k universe. The "Lasguns" used by standard guardsmen (soldiers) are nicknamed "Flashlights" because of how useless they tend to be against the enemies of humanity. They have an approach very similar to the CIS' droid army from star wars.

      There's a quote from one of the 40K boards which states that 'One lasgun isn't worth diddly. Fifty or sixty lasguns is a *whole lotta* diddly." That sums it up pretty well -- deploying Imperial Guard by the squad just makes them a target, but deploying them by the platoon or company and concentrating fire makes them deadly. A quote by a Space Marine from one of the novels goes "Anyone who disrespects the Imperial Guard lasgun has never had to charge across a battlefield under fire from a hundred of them."

    Knowing much of the lore of WH40k definitely Makes watching Astartes that much better.
    Even just when that one Astartes stabs a guy running up behind him, there's a pretty decent chunk of lore in that one clip.
    What that rebel was carrying was what's called a Melta Bomb.
    Think of superheated napalm almost. Had that guy Reached the Astartes, That bomb surely would've mortally wounded, if not obliterated that Astartes.
    So how did that Astartes know the guy was coming up behind him?
    Not just plot armor for cool visuals my friend.
    He didn't simply "hear" the suicide bomber coming, although I wouldn't doubt he did hear it. That isnt the only means to which he was aware of the bomber coming at him.
    I don't know EXACTLY What technology it is, but I'm pretty sure Astartes power armor has sensors of various types absolutely fucking everywhere.
    Astartes don't even see out of those "eyes". Those are high tech camera lenses. Because the see using an in built camera system, they have a very wide field of view on their internal HUD, almost completely unobstructed.
    But that's not how he knew what was behind him..
    There are sensors that can read temperature, motion, etc. That effectively give the Astartes 360° of awareness of their surroundings.
    Basically, that Astartes saw that suicide bomber long before he even ran into frame. Knowing what was behind him even before hearing em.
