This song has the greatest pocket ever, and this band was all in it. The guitars were restrained, tasteful and all but perfect, and Bill K has always been a tasteful "pocket drummer." Change my mind.
I enjoy watching this ensemble a lot. Better to my ear than either Bobby or Phil's lineup. I was there when the Grateful Dead played Red Rocks the first time and the second time too, when Billy had the broken hand. Something magic about the place. This music is nice and feels pretty fresh.
@@direwolf6234 Yep 8/31/78. First time Shakedown Street played, if i recall correctly. My first show came a few days later 9/2/78 at Giants Stadium, and Bill K. had one arm in a cast. Regardless, a Scarlet Fire Estimated Eyes for the ages played that afternoon. I was never the same...
The real magic with " Billy Shakedown" Seems like the perfect name for him. He has lots of orginal songs. And he keeps writing. That will be the true magic over the years with Billy. Plus his voice is so unique and universal. Thanks! For the music tonight!
2nd set on 🔥 >> that was a stoney 🛸jam >> Billy Strings 🎸 holding it down⚡ The whole band is really good 🍻 >> kinda taking everything to the next level 💯
Reed Rocks at Red Rocks!! His smile makes me heart happy! And the music makes me dance! James Casey blows me away! What an incredible group of musicians playing as one... Creating Harmony.!
Billy”the old one” , once again proves that the Grateful Dead only really needed him as the real drummer in the beginning and when Micky quit the band in the 70’s… he can handle the whole thing and it sounds great..
Only $20 for the tickets 🎟 That's soooo cool! U guys rock! Just wish you were playing more shows Please play some more gigs this summer in the Bay Area 🙏
Billy Strings electric playing has grown big time since the Mahalo gig. Huge strides. Still has that sort of Toy Caldwell sound that fits well in this group.
@@deadspread7717 Not doubting that he used to play metal. But playing this music -- which is why Hamilton's playing bugs me at times -- isn't about shredding but literally holding a conversation. Strings' phrasing during the Hawaii shows wasn't there. He had some cool Caldwell moments, but he was missing it a bit. I noticed he lacked a bit when he played with Marcus King a while back on electric too. This is much more relaxed and quite a bit better as far as his phrasings.
Agreed. I also think Carlos was throwing him off at Bill's birthday... Love Santana and he did a lot for Jerry before/after the coma, but I never thought he should ever play dead music...throws off the groove at times. Not a Hamilton fan, but he definitely has his moments.
for bluegrass -guy he sure uses distortion in a positive way, I noticed he uses some fuzz w/ th bluegrass often also, love the way he gets sustain in the GD notes & melodies
Wow not sure if id ever heard billy strings on electric guitar but im really really digging it. Edit- made that comment before hearing the Jimmy cliff (I think..right?) Amazing
I felt like they wanted to go into Victim or the Crime there for a min...Scarlet->Victim->Fire only happened once. Grateful Dead - "Scarlet Begonias/Victim or the Crime/Fire on the Mountain" (8/16/91)
This is PHENOMENAL! This feels like the Grateful Dead--notice I did not say "sounds" like the Grateful Dead. I thought Billy was pretty much done listening to DeadCo. BOY, was I wrong!
We have some amazing stuff right now...DSO, JRAD, now these guys I mean how spoiled we are its all good guys...hell I look for something on Jerry day and there is a amazing stream from Terrapin Crossing Stu Nelson and Mars Hotel holy shit they rock too...organ is HOT...Then Dead and Company coming up. All kinds of Grateful Dead cover bands probably hundreds maybe weekly around US...after watching Jerry day I went out here in Louisville, Ky.....The Pransters had a jerry day of their own spoiled with all these dead riches....
Hmmm. My favorite song of all songs. But being honest I don't care for the way the vocal harmonies are here. And this version doesn't have the wobble and bounce that makes the original so magical!!!
The guy wearing the John Mayer mask playing the instrument. I just wish he was black playing that sexyphone. Knock knock. It's sexy on the phone. Never learned the hard way, the hardest way back home
Fuck yeah!!!!!! Reed kicks ass. Saw him in the Steve Kimok Band in Fayetteville Ak. With Rodney Holmes on drums. 3 day show at Chester's. Blew my mind.
maybe not "better" but certainly more enjoyable. I was here last night and walked away thinking I haven't had this much fun at a dead and co show and I love that band and have enjoyed every one of their shows. The energy last night was otherworldly in comparison
@@trevorkinzie4267 good for YOU, glad you had a good time. I’m happy with all of it and thankful the music is going to live on. I saw Jerry 16 times before he died ..Anyone who celebrates the Dead is alright ..I did security for the Dead back in the day ..80s..old man now of 61
I attended the show on 13th, what a damn good group of musicians for these two shows !
Love to you all from Patti Cornell keep the music alive for always and forever
Holy smokes...that was freaking SICK!!!! This band needs to tour. Period, paragraph, end of story.

Dead Head since 78. This just blew me away. Holy....please come to NYC
The music just goes on and on to the next generation. The new kids do pretty good in keeping the historical journey out there for us…
Loved all of the adventures threw the years
Thanks for putting this show on UA-cam >> Super Grateful 🙏
A really cool and unique take on the best (imho) dead segue jam. And then blessing us with the Jimmy Cliff song was an amazing and unexpected gift
Love red rocks one of my favorite places to be.
Always a wonderful adventure with the band
Wish all these guys had the time to do a tour.

Heard them play a pop up show in Charlottesville, Capital theater before Lockn a few years ago. It was great!!
Of course, minus Billy Strings.
That’s the one where they broke out Spidegawd/Eep Hour I think. Billy is really the Keeper of the Flame
