    All I can say is that it could have been worse. We could have been stuck with the Probe for a Mustang. Then the Cobra would have been based on a Mazda platform. They would have been loved as much as the Mustang II. But instead of the car that saved Mustang it would have probably killed it. The SN95 sounds a little better now,doesn't it?

      Not to get off subject, but the Probe could have been a nice car to add to as a Mustang if it was Rwd or Awd with the 5.0 engine 5 or 6
      Spd Manual it could never replace the mustang ever, but it had potential to be a good performance model especially in Cobra or Svt and Shelby models.

    • @camaro3gen
      @camaro3gen 2 роки тому +1

      Agree with you replacing the Mustang with a Probe would have been bad! But I run a 14.8 second 1/4 all day long with my 89 MX6-GT and still average 27.2 mpgs driving to work. Do I miss my 96 Mustang GT? No I don't. Worse Mustang I have owned so far.

    • @midnight347
      @midnight347 2 роки тому +3

      @@camaro3gen what was wrong with your 96 gt? They have some decent potential even on a budget. Ported pi heads and intake and aftermarket cams you can make 300+ rwhp in a 96-98 gt pretty easily. You will make more power with those than an actual pi motor because using pi top end with npi bottom raises compression up a whole point to like 10.5:1. Not bad power for such simple mods on a 281 cube engine from over 25 years ago.

      The 2v has just as much power and torque stock as the old 5 liter and has just as much potential modded. People just talk shit and don't know wtf they're talking about. People didn't like them in 1996 because the aftermarket was crap. That isn't the case today. I swear I think some don't like them just because it's a 4.6 and not a "5.0" so it don't sound cool rolling off the tongue. People will claim other reasons for disliking them but I believe that subconsciously has alot to do with it. The 2v sounds every bit as good as the pushrod if not better as do the rest of the mod motors.

    I guess a lot has to do when you were growing up on the model run you like. I got out of cars right when the foxs came in, and reentered the Mustang world 2 years ago. I just remember being blown away when the 94 SN95s came out, they were sleek and sporty looking, not the boxy "fairmont" look of the foxs. I do watch the fox channels as you guys do the cool engine stuff, that is hard to find on the SN95s sites, especially for the 94-95 pushrod models. So it goes back and forth on model favorites, in the end they are all Mustangs!

      That car has a npi 4.6 so on a budget do ported pi heads and intake and aftermarket cams with headers exhaust gears stall and a tire. You should get to 300 wheel with that setup and with the right stall and tire and suspension it'll move out for what it is. Then throw a power adder on top.
      If you wanna spend more coyote swap it. That is easily done too since it is a mod motor car. Alot less things need to be changed in order to run the coyote compared to a pushrod car.

    The Lincoln mk viii came out the prior year with the DOHC 4.6 and every publication had been putting out rumors of the new mustang getting an over 300hp powerplant for the design change.
    The Mach iii show car was making rounds with a supercharged DOHC 4.6 (ten years before the terminator).

    My 94 cobra is by no means the fastest car out there. But off the line I keep up with most modern cars until the top of 3rd gear. My motor is just full bolt ons but it does have a pretty well set up suspension. And a well setup drive train (save for the t5 which is about to explode) a metric fuck ton of weight reduction. At this point it drives and handles like a full blown race car just making borderline stock horsepower. Its running a very low 12 right now on street tires with stock h/c/i. This year im getting a new trans and a cage. Next year is heads and cam. Then finally a procharger. The goal is to run mid 9s and considering it was over a 14 from the factory im well on my way for not a whole lot of money. Everyone that asks me what car to get into for a project I recommend an sn95 and if they've got the extra money I recommend a sn95 cobra.

    i always wanted one of those especially when i owned my 94 Gen1 Lightning, i wanted a black 94 cobra to match. the big let down were the 96+ mod motors, the pushrod cars were easy to modify and make power, the mod motors had to revved to the moon and still didnt make torque. the SN95 was the only modern day mustang to get the 351W👍. the 94-95s have the ugly tail lights too, the 96-98s tail lights are better looking. The round fog lights on the Cobras are sweet too.

      The mod motors make plenty of power. They make as much power and torque as the 5 liter in the 2v and the 4v makes 80 more hp than the 5 liter and equal torque albeit at a higher rpm. The mod motors have as much if not more potential than the pushrod. The cobras have a far higher ceiling (4v ones) forged rods and pistons and you can make 700-800 to the wheels all day long before easily. Try that with your pushrod with the same mods. Stock engine with just forged rods and pistons and boost and try to make that kind of power. The mod motors even sound better although pushrods sound awesome too. People didn't like the mod in 96 because lack of aftermarket that isn't the case today. It's an old out of date way of thinking acting like the mod motors are inferior to the pushrod before it.

Up until then the foxes were holding their own most already being modified weren't being embarrassed on a weekly basis. With limited availability from the aftermarket right off the get go it was hard for the sn95 to keep up. The cobra could have been fine if ford hadn't retarded the timing by way of the computer it easily would come down to the driver. The cobra motor should have been in the gt, the r motor in the cobra and a 427 stroker in the r. That takes care of the 94/95 and then it got worse with the 4.6 gt... regardless of how fast they weren't if done right they are very sexy cars!

Like 69 was the last year of the original 64 1/2 front bumper. 70 they changed it. 71 to 73 was the next generation but it was a boat Mustang. 3rd generation was the 74 Pinto look. No, but they can be boosted with great results - Pro-Charger anyone? - and a well-tricked out Cobra still turns heads and with a decent exhaust on it, will sound fabulous. As you mentioned in 94, 95 the power remained unchanged. I havent driven the previous 5.0 but am sure I would really like them as well. The the 96 cobra's hp, which had a relatively big bump in power, for the time wasnt the known tried and true 5.0. I know back then the 4.6 4v put out a ton of hp but seemed to later be over shadowed by the terminator cobra which is also an awesome car. I truely love my 96 and plan to keep it from now on. With some light mods they light up the tires through the gears. I would really like to try out an older 302 as well one day. It was tough time for the mustang but I suppose these times are as well with the forceful pushing of car makers to enthusiast to buy electrified cars.. Enjoyed the content and thanks for the video!

      As for those 2V 4.6L SOC engines, I owned a 1996 Mustang GT and you are absolutely right that they are bullet-proof and run forever. Mine was in the high 200K range when I traded it on 2013 Mustang GT. There are a lot of old Ford Crown Vics still running today that were built as cop cars. Heck, even the straight-up passenger cars are pretty well made. I still see 'em around the town where I live, along with Lincolns of the same era, and most of 'em run fine.
      Sure as heck was expensive to replace the catalytic converters though - all four of them if memory serves.

    They are making the SVO style side exhaust again for these cars. Ignore the missing piece off of that car and add side exhaust to it. SVO style side exhaust on those cars make them look amazing. I wish I could do it on my 04 Cobra, but there are subframe connectors in the way.

    I owned an 87 Mustang and a 94 . I didn't at first care for the 94 because it so heavy compared to my 87. The biggest thing to me was it did feel or look like a Mustang to me. After owning the 94 the years the it earned my respect was it was reliable and comfortable. I would car show the 87 but I long trip my 94. So I always used to tell my friends don't judge the 94 till you drive or own one.

      People say they're so heavy it's like 100 lbs difference bro lol. Maybe 150 if you compare it against a stripped notch. Stripped notch against stripped 95 gts I bet there ain't much more than 100-150 lbs difference and the sn is a far better car.

      I think the sn looks more traditional mustang than the fox does. It looks like a 1980s escort on steroids. I'm not dissing the fox I think they're awesome too but I also think they're way overpriced and overrated. The sn is the better car period. The advantages they come with more than offsets an extra 100-150 lbs max. In some cases the weight difference might be even less.

    They don't get much love but my 98 Cobra vert was awesome and you can fit big wheels and tires unlike the Fox.

      Had my 96gt lowered with staggered fit 20s on it. 20x8.5 up front and 20x10 in the rear and it sat perfectly!

    My wife loves her 94’ gt convertible. Restored the whole car and it’s a great little thing

    I love that they're STILL hated on. I get parts for dirt cheap, and have a lightning fast car for a bargain. Love the Foxbody crowd, they put up lots of cheap go-fast parts that I can use.

    Sounds like an e-cam.
    The other thing we did was swap in a fox computer into the car using the PIH kit from ProM.... MAKES A WORLD OF DIFF... still run it on my 95

    1994 and 1995 had the the horizontal slots in the tail lights . 96 and up had the verticle slotted lights . That's another way to tell the year difference .

    I'll admit when I was a kid I disliked the SN95 , and Mustang 2 , I love them both now plus the level of aftermarket and customization the possibility is unlimited for any gen Mustangs .

      The way you fix the fugliness of a mustang 2 is with a nice wheel and tire setup. I had a 78 king cobra in high school. Sold that and bought a 1998 GT lol drove that car for 15 years so I've had both of your lease favorite mustangs. Nice set of BBK headers and off-road x-pipe with two flowmasters made that 4.6 2 valve sound like hell unleashed.
