Thanks for the video, it was most helpful. I am in Australia, where our towbars have a much bigger tow capacity of 2100kg. My towbar is an original Volvo , a slightly different design which meant I needed to make alterations to the collision member and a deeper cutout on the bumper cover. The main point here though fyi, is that I used 3 bolts on either side to secure it to the car. I now know way more than I ever wanted to about these towbars. Given the opportunity to do it again I would have bought a Hayman Reece version which is a great design for quick install, still providing 2100kg rating and no changes to any components . To think, the model previous is basically a 10 minute install. This was a 28 page download of instructions and another document of the harness. Crazy!!

It's nice when cars are designed and built correctly. It is a shame when you take it to the dealer and little bits are missed. Unless you find the right person, no one will give it the same level of detail as you would yourself.
    Nice job.

I think you're right there, no one would have gone to that much effort - the benefit of being able to do things yourself! Skills. It was also tight space wise torquing those exhaust bolts, but you still managed to do it without dropping the exhaust whilst keeping a camera in there too 🤣

Hi just some info for you. Volvo wasn’t lazy to make the trailer module cable short, this came about because the original trailer module 30744321 actually lived where the cable ended under the organizer. Then Volvo came up with updated trailer module 31407107, because of the angle which the connectors are plugged into this updated trailer module they changed the mounting location, hence the original cable became too short & requires the extension cable. I heard rumor that original trailer module doesn’t like LED lights on the trailer, hence Volvo updated it, although I was not able to confirm if this was true.

Very nice work. In watching your procedure, I believe I am going to drop my exhaust like you did, to run the red hot wire to the front of the car (2014 XC70) - I can route the wire over the exhaust shield. etrailers said they used an electrician's fish tape.

Very useful video thank you, I am undecided whether to fit a towbar at this stage, I fitted one to my previous car (not a Volvo). Good on Volvo for having the predrilled holes but a little more work despite that. Mine will of course be a 13 pin connector (I am in the UK) but I have an adaptor for older trailer wiring.

If it's an aliexpress can you please provide link?

Could you tell us what kinds of tools and extra parts you keep in the spare tire cover?Or your top go-to hand tools in general? I’m trying to build up a basic Volvo maintenance kit, and I’m a beginner. I have a compressor/jump pack, lots of bulbs, a body pry tool, a socket set, and an electric screwdriver with a lot of bits. Oh and a funnel and a spare quart of oil.
I can’t get out my front parking bulb despite a few helpful videos, so I thought I’d add a pick and long bent needle nose pliers to my little tool box.
What else is good to have on hand, car people? I have a good mechanic, but this channel has become my DIY to-do list!
Definitely not hauling anything soon but now I’m going to look for rust! Thank you for all the good tips and video work. :)

@@volvosweden tested today with the TRM P.N. 31399575 bought from the scrapyard from an XC60 and installed in the XC70 and afterwards configured with VDASH… no issue at all so I bet any P3 Volvo TRM works. Also, the power supply cable from the existing harness to the TRM can be pulled from the loom to reach the TRM location, it comes from the fuse panel to the location where is taped, I also extended the small green connector wires to reach the location of the TRM (obviously COM wires with twisted pairs as they should be). On the other hand, do you have any contact at D5T5? Tried today to disable my 4C adaptive suspension with vdash cause the previous owner changed the struts to standard bilstein and I get DSTC error and headlight service required messages after loading the CEM config, when tried to see what the issue is with VIDA, I see that the suspension module config is what’s causing the errors so I’m wondering if I need to do some other HW actions to disable the 4C without any errors. Thanks!
