    Thank you so much for making all these videos! Couldn't imagine how I'm able to get any work done without them! Just got my xc70 in Ontario and I'm just glad that someone already done and filmed it.

    This is a well known problem in Sweden, Volvo have fixed a lot of plastic panels on warranty on xc70 and v60cc. They blamed the owners of using to effictive cold degreasers when washing the car.

    Also a good product and tried and tested for unpainted car plastics(Trim) is the one below, Meguiar's Ultimate Black Plastic Restorer. It does a very good job on plastics.

    I had this problem with the driver's door of my identical '09 XC70 after hitting a pothole. The backyard mechanic here in Prince Edward Island inserted a tiny screw through the trim, into the metal, to bend that point on the trim back towards the door so that it would open.

    I just had to replace some of them on mine after an accident. Both door trims, both arch trims and sill. Just for information if you buy any of those new they come with tape and clips already on them.
    For restoring the rest of the trim I can highly recommend Gtechnique C4 (60ml). If applied properly it lasts for 3 years with no need to use any other products on them.

    • @skookum_ahc
      @skookum_ahc 8 місяців тому

      I can totally vouch for the Gtechniq C4 stuff. Used it on the grey plastic trim on my 850R and they still look brand new after 4 years. Also it just boosts the original trim color without any tint like some other products. The car is parked during winter times and always stored indoors, so best case scenario for this stuff to last as long as possible, but I'm sure it'll do a great job in not so favorable scenarios as well.

      @@skookum_ahc I live in UK and it’s always raining here and very humid so better for plastics than Australian sunshine for example but I do wash the car every 2 weeks and this stuff lasted so long. Most of these detailing products only last few weeks before you have to reapply again and over time you end up paying more than the C4 costs. Can’t decide if I like quality products or I’m just lazy🤣

    • @skookum_ahc
      @skookum_ahc 8 місяців тому

      @@Dalbayob69 Oh I'd say it's 100% better than most "trim restorers", that just add a little shine to the plastic that's gone after 1-2 washes and you have to reapply the product. I used to use the Meguiars "Ultimate Black Plastic Restorer" and still do sometimes on friends cars I detail, but for longevity there's not many products out there like the C4.

    Ah these door trims, they have been a source of irritation for years on my XC70. But doing it correct like this make the job last as long as possible. I always carry some tape in the car so if the trim catches when opening it can be saved from bending and temporarily stuck down. The rears will bend easily if they catch the front door, had to make a small notch to save the panel, like the P2 model has. I think the problem is the plastic warping, if because of salt, degreaser or what I don’t really know.

      This and your Salty roads won’t help with deterioration of the double sided tape and plastics. Very good idea not to replace the older panel with a newer one..beautiful work👌

    I’ve already done this on my using 3M double sided tape. And after just 2-4 months same problem come back. So I don’t know what tape or glue they are using to do this job. Over the internet people have same issue and probably best glue for this job is windscreen glue. Just no idea how to keep pressed panel to the door for 24hrs. Coz that long glue need to fully solidify.

    • @h.z.4585
      @h.z.4585 8 місяців тому +1

      Same here. I had to do the rear door driver side because the corner was caught in the front door. I really put a lot of effort in the repair, also using a high quality 3M tape, exactly with the same width as on the original. The most annoying part is getting the adhesive off the trim, as I did not have that rubber disc recommended here. It is almost impossible to do it without damaging the plastic. An alcoholic detergent did the job on the door itself easily, but not on the plastic. And after a couple months the problem appeared again. As the panel has a crack now, I will probably have to replace it completely. Using some kind of additional glue when the corners are sticking out probably is the best idea. One could maybe even do this without taking off the panel completely. If I have to do this, I will use some kind of tape to keep it in place until the glueing is ready. At present, some pieces if tape are holding the trim in place. But the gap between the back and the front doort is really narrow here, a few milimeters less than on the passenger side.
