You can easily inspect the valve by removing the top (remove the two screws) and unscrewing the valve seat underneath. You can try turning the plastic cap first, but it breaks easily so best to remove. There are two O-rings that could be damaged. If the valve froze (and it will if the temp drops below freezing) you will need to purchase a repair kit, just google part number and size (looks like 1"). The kits are very simple to install. Note that the top is a vent, there is a float in there that closes the vent when there is enough back pressure, so you need some back pressure in the line for it to work properly . If your valve is oversize (using 1" valve on 3/4" pipe) there will not be enough back pressure and water will come out the top.
Hello Everyone, I know this was an old post, but I am having the same exact problem. It will leak at first and then pressurize. After about 20-30 seconds it gushes again and spudders a little. All of the parts look fine...no cracks or broken gaskets. Instead of buying a whole brand new kit, any recommendations as to which parts to start trying? It is quite possible the guys that closed it last year did not drain it, so I am thinking it froze.
I am having the exact same problem. I purchased a Watts repair kit and replaced all the parts, however, water continues to leak. Were you able to figure out how to fix it?
