      I have a 92 model (first year for the Ultra package). Fair warning: even if you find a spotless one-owner car expect to have to do some electrical work! I only am willing to spend the money because I love it. At the end of a long day at work it's almost as nice to drive as a Rolls.

      @@antoniojmonetti Absolutely the GM Supercharged 240 HP 3800 V6 requires premium fuel.
      I have a 2002 Pontiac Grand Prix with the 240 horsepower Supercharged 3800 V6 with over 280 thousand miles that requires premium fuel.
      This engine without a doubt is the longest lasting, most dependable, low maintenance, high performing engine GM ever built.
      Unfortunately GM stopped building this engine and replaced it with 3600 Direct Injection Variable Valve Timing V6 which isn't as good because of carbon build up issues on the valves.

    • @gtpcruiser02

      @@antoniojmonetti I definitely would avoid the Northstar engine because they have a tendency to blow head gaskets.
      Luckily GM doesn't build Northstar engines anymore and their best engine the 3800 has been discontinued and replaced with the 3600.
      I have a 2017 Chevy Impala Premier with the 3600 V6 with 306 horsepower that really performs lots of power, torque, smooth, quiet but will probably have carbon issues around 70-80 thousand miles.
      At 34 thousand miles still runs great.

    My dad had that Buick. It's the car I learned to drive in. I mixed up the gas and brake while parking it and jumped the parking thing and came 3 inches from crashing into Publix before realizing my mistake and slamming the brake. My dad didn't even mention it and still let me drive home after we went shopping. I miss that man every single day.

      My first 5 cars were General Motors. My first was a 1993 Buick Park Ave. Loved it after it hit 200,000 i needed a new trans. My second was a 1997 Buick LeSabre Limited, that one was a pain in my butt. Ended up getting a rebuilt engine for it and then selling the car. My third was a 2000 Buick LeSabre Limited, loved that one too but it got totaled. My fourth was a 2001 Oldsmobile Aurora V8 with a cadillac north star engine, which i still own. My fifth was a 2001 Buick LeSabre Custom and i gave that to my sister. Now i have a 2007 Toyota Corolla LE. Very reliable and fuel efficient and an amazing car. Love Toyota. This guy is hailing them, the Buick, the AMG custom Mercedes build. Lexus hahaha....
      To me, that AMG still has that taxi desgin, good? just a taxi....Timeless? always boring you call timeless?
      Mercedes can do good cards too, that Wankel 1970 thing, some SL coupe models, but most of them are the family Taxi cars...
      Who needs high quality, they lease them for 2 years, ONLY the used old car people love that! Today? They do well better now, selling sports coupe models. Who needs family quality?

    • @ErecMr
      @ErecMr 6 років тому

      I don't get your point. What do you want to say? The old C Class is - in its regular form - an old ordinary car. With the AMG - trim it gets a different car for me. There are just some little changes to the car that makes it interesting to me. What is family quality? Quality is, when the customer comes back, not the product. By the way...my C coupé is bought.

      To those who put the C36 down, you have obviously never driven an AMG of any erra... My C43 would roast a BMW M3 of that era... they would have me 0 to 30 by almost a car length... after that they rapidly disappeared in my rear view mirror. The C43 was unreal in it's 60-120mph time... neither of the others could even come close. The buick would probably explode.

When it came time to move a large number of cars, I loved when I had to move all the cars with keyless entry/push-button start cause all I had to do was list off the numbers, get the keys, keep them all in my pocket or hanging from my belt or whatever, pull the door and start em up without even thinking about which key was which, the car knows it's key is present.

In 2019 my daughter started university and she expressed an interest in driving the car, so I replaced everything that could be unbolted with brand new parts because it was still cheaper to do that than buy her a new car, and she's very proud to drive it. She came home from hospital in it the day she was born. It's a car which has aged remarkably well with not a rattle or a creak.

Hoovie is so right about older generations of cars having more unique characteristics as well as being easier to work on (watch The Wizard’s vid on the 3800 V6, same engine minus the SC, that’s found in the Park Ave). Buick, if you’re listening, bring back a boulevard (shout out to Jay Leno’s Garage) ride and a reliable engine!!!

      Nope but 90s Japanese and American cars let alone luxury were at a pinnacle. Right before OBD2
      500k+ Lexus Toyotas, 300k infiniti, 300k easy GMs. Toyota(lexus)/GMC also has cheap ass parts at the counter as opposed to BMW/Mercedes/Infiniti, etc.
      Lexus would win the 90s luxury title. Non luxury is debatable but I'm really liking my 91 Jeep as far as low cost of ownership but it depends who you ask, people who say they're a money pit are often taking the expensive routes 90% of the time

      @DavidPysnik 6 років тому +7

      +Kevin Michaud: Hoover seems to appreciate the cars for what they are and gives a balanced approach to their presentation. I find much of what he says to be spot on (facts and opinions, but obviously the opinions would depend on the person) and really never find him making any mistakes. He seems to capture the essence of the cars he presents on.
      Demuro makes many mistakes, particularly on older cars. His rating system is odd and he doesn't seem to appreciate different types of cars from different eras in the same way Hoover does. His video titles lean toward click bait and his reviews are more gimmicky, relying on odd quirks to entertain at the expense of the bigger picture.
      Not to bash on Demuro as he's decent and I watch his stuff, but Hoovie strikes me as more of a car connoisseur who takes all kinds of cars and tries to come at them from all angles where Demuro is more about nitpicking cars on the extremes, both good and bad. I like both, but appreciate Hoover more as a reviewer and what he reviews.

    I'm surprised by the outpouring of love for the Buick. I was never fond of it and resented GM for it's (poor) interpretation of a Jaguar XJ6's styling. I love the Mercedes and the Lexus. Current Lexus designs make me weep, and Mercedes seems to be building a fleet of throwaway cars that are best if leased rather than purchased and passed onto junior when he or she attains his or her driver's licence. I'd go for the Buick. I love the 1990s Buicks and Lincolns, those unambiguous and unostentatious luxury cars that offered cushy rides for highway cruising and didn't pretend to be flashy, high-performance supercars.

    • @jamesbowden4871
      @jamesbowden4871 6 років тому

      Definitely. Lincolns could use Ford parts, too, presumably.
      As for myself, I have only ever owned American cars; I like that all my replacement parts are cheap and easy to find.
      But the new Buicks and new Lincolns have moved away from the stealth wealth and adopted these silly aggressive styling -- it just doesn't work! All I want is a comfortabe highway-cruiser.

    The Lexus reminds me so much of my son’s recently departed 1997 Tercel. Utterly bulletproof. So much so, I always wanted his car back. Unfortunately, a semi driver tried to occupy the same space as the Tercel, and one can imagine who won and who lost. Gratefully, no injuries, but the Ultimate in Reliability is gone. I’ve offered up my 2013 Cruze to h8m and his GF and may find myself looking for a replacement DD. I can only sit back and lust after that Lexus and wish I were rowing the gears each day to and from work.

    Look man, you know I love you.... I've posted many positive comments....
    But in the same time frame, you could buy a Cadillac Eldorado, or a Cadillac Seville, with 300 horses, that was amazing, and luxurious.... And faster than everything, including the AMG, if only by a hair....
    I'm not quite sure why you're skipping over the best offerings of that time frame....
    And for Lincoln people, I never owned one, but the Lincoln Mark 8 was also out there, which blew these offerings away as well.... 300 horse V8, like the Cadillacs.... Some might remember the Actor Jeff Goldblum doing the voice over in their commercials, "What a luxury car SHOULD be..."
    I am confused. Why are you ignoring the best of those times????

      Speaking of ignoring things, if you are going to speak Cadillac I wouldn't ignore the mid-90s Fleetwood. They ride better than the Eldorado and Seville, are larger and more luxurious, and if you don't like the fact they are a bit slower, then a few simple modifications can be done to the LT1 engine to undo the detuning and get it signficantly beyond the 300 horses of the others and with massive torque to boot. Not to mention that the LT1 was nearly bulletproof where the Northstar reliability of those years had a lot to be desired.
