I must have been THE WORST school-mate for the other kids! My two favorite guitar players when I was 13 were Steve Howe and Al DiMeola. Everyone was listening to Led Zeppelin, Van Halen and Iron Maiden… on music appreciation day I brought “Race with the Devil on a Spanish Highway”! … no one liked it. A considerable number of years later - I’m still listening to Al and consistently blown away by how incredible he is.
How can you not like Race With The Devil On Spanish Highway? Even as a metal dude, it has killer riffs, Al's patented picking, and its just an awesome song overall.
... it was not to the class' tastes. I tried to explain that Al was probably a more skilled player than the guys in Judas Priest - but no one would listen to me! @@sullyb23511
Better than the record! This was incredible to play drums to....hundreds of hours of practice acting like I was al Di's drummer! These guys are unbelievable!
In Casino album Al Di Meola on guitar, Barry Miles on keyboard, Anthony Jackson on bass, Steve Gadd on drums, Eddie Colon on percussion, Mingo Lewis on percussion dream team for me. Casino album released in 1978. No internet, no much more material to access to see to read what are others doing? This live record is incredible, extreme performance.
Casino is an amazing record, instrumental, yet very narrative with its theme changes and melodies. You can really hear that many death metal bands were influenced by his music, most notably Death and Atheist. Damir
This man right here was/is John Petrucci's biggest influence. Liquid Tension Experiment was going to cover this song, but it didn't happen as far as I know.
We shall fight in the plains, we shall fight in the landing grounds,we shall fight in the fields and in the streets,we shall never surrender!!!🎸🔊⛰️🏞️🏔️✨🎇🎆🎉🎊bwa... hahahahaha!!!🎈🐕 hope you are well God loves you deeply Shalom
Can't let that one slide BA ... RESPECT is what the two of these players mentioned have for each other. My gawd man, they've toured together. Whoever first said "So and so is better than so and so... " in the realm of music is a complete idiot .. jus sayin.

Saw him outside of San Diego a couple of weeks ago, and he burned the place down!

No questions asked: If Al wanted to play neo-classical metal he would have been a BEAST! Like Yngvie but beyond.@@livingbeing1113
No one liked it??!! 😮

The guy to whom all the '80s shredders owe a debt of gratitude (along with Ulrich Roth, Michael Shenker and Frank Marino, of course). Al is THE MAN!!!

Thank you man! I grew up playing drums to these records..
Al is an absolutely incredible songwriter guitarist and outstanding band members!
Not does he have flawless technique but, he has heart and soul when he plays. Amazing.
Casino is an amazing record, instrumental, yet very narrative with its theme changes and melodies. You can really hear that many death metal bands were influenced by his music, most notably Death and Atheist.

Well, well, for a long time I thought I was the only one to hear the similarities.
this man is why I have a Les Paul and an Ovation in the corner of my living room.
thanks so much for posting this,, love Al's playing..
Brilliant ! Al always had Memorable Melodies along with all the other stuff.. That's why he always stood out from the rest of the pack..
I honestly have never listened to this guy's music before now.
GIMME MORE!
Ihab H. Bouch Check out his work on Return To Forever - Romantic Warrior.
Meola is one of the best guitarists on this planet and a brilliant musician for me.
My favorite by the master! Casino was one of my first jazz albums. I wore out my Casino tape.
He is just a MONSTER!
Phrygian mode + les paul standard + dimarzios + marshall = magic
You forgot "+ Al Di Meola"
who thinks Yngwie heard Al somewhere as a kid and got the idea to run with the fast harmonic minor scales?
The master at work.
garfnart, cant thank you enough for putting up these al di meola vids!
so many good memories... the maestro!!!
Yngwie has quoted Al is a major influence
Petrucci also
Great upload!
Just paused Beato’s interview with him, just to get some!
🤘🏽
What ever happened to good music al? Wow love ya
Nice i rarely get to see old Al, YEAH!
AWESOME!!! Love Al's playing here!!!
Al Di Meola shreds Ritchie Blackmore to pieces!
Amazing
Loved his sound back then!
1:51 that part guitar + organ together.. ahh 😍❤
It's not, it's a xylophone or a vibraphone
@@Drench3Yes, you are absolutely right about that! Thanks! 😎

been listening for a very long time.....great as always..MOSAICMANNYC
As much as I love the studio intro, somehow "AL DI MEOLAAAA" is more fitting
What really impresses me is the year this composition was made, certainly impressive¡
@Chromatype That´s exactly what i think, he said Blackmore and vivaldi, but Al is all over, mostly in his first two records, cheers!
amazing ...
I believe how smoothlyy this song went
This was tearing up before tearing it up was invented!
insane
Artificial Intelligence di meola! One of the best
Wow
best of him
@Moaeon Actually Petrucci's biggest influence is Steve Morse, but yeah Al is up there.
Burn it up AL!!!!!
Far beyond a "shredder"...
Why this broadcast don't show the keyboards?
Reminds me of Iron Maiden.. I love me some Maiden!

This would fit well with Powerslave. 😄🤘
Al D is all fucking Business! :)
@bej144 : Agreed!
@freemetalguitar Sure. Find me any Blackmore tune that remotely resembles "Far Beyond the Sun" or "Black Star", and get back to me.
Tune
Ron, do you know the setlist for the concert? Can see that the show started with Egyptian Danza, but hard to tell what the order is from the videos.
2:27 Dat bend
Se o tocar com a Madonna eu sei que é ele!
hahah his face at 3:18
@MajesticMist I think he played *too* fast once and created dark matter :-)
@ericgenocidex2 I like very much Blackmore, but I have to admmit you´re totally rigth :D
@Chromatype thats exactly what happend!
Lovely instrumental, Al Di Meola ripps it! Cheap keyboardplayer sucks though! This guy cant´t stand the shadow of Barry Miles on the Casino record!
Great technique and sense of melody, but you can see his hog. WTF dude?
Only Al Di Meola can get a great sound out of a guitar as horrible as Les Paul
That’s one of the most idiotic comments I’ve ever read...
Very good but still , John McLaughlin - Lite.
What do you mean "John McLaughlin- lite"?
Al's compositions speak to me more than John.
Black Arrow bull dinky.
^ idiot alert
