This anti-drug film from 1971 attempts to debunk anecdotal arguments made in support of the drug LSD (Lysergic acid diethylamide) and other psychedelic drugs. Hosted by singer-songwriter Tommy Roe (best known for his hits “Sheila” and “Dizzy”), the film features teens having scripted conversations about their opinions and experiences with psychedelic drugs. The conversations are first shown truncated, leaving the viewer to believe that what is being said is declarative or empirical, but then the same footage is later shown in its entirety, revealing that the opinions beings expressed are unfounded or incomplete. Based on the locations seen and referenced, and the accents of the teens speaking, this film was shot in and around New York City. Narrated by Tommy Roe, Executive produced and written by Max Miller, produced and directed by Noel Nosseck, an Avanti/Directions Unltd. Production, presented by American Educational Film, 1971.
Psychedelics are a subset of hallucinogenic drugs whose primary effect is to trigger non-ordinary states of consciousness (known as psychedelic experiences or "trips") This causes specific psychological, visual and auditory changes, and often a substantially altered state of consciousness. The "Classical" psychedelics, the psychedelics with the largest scientific and cultural influence, are mescaline, LSD, psilocybin, and DMT. The psychedelic experience is often compared to non-ordinary forms of consciousness such as those experienced in meditation, mystical experiences, and near-death experiences. The phenomenon of ego dissolution is often described as a key feature of the psychedelic experience. Many psychedelic drugs are illegal worldwide, with occasional exceptions for religious use or research contexts. Despite these controls, recreational use of psychedelics is common. Research has been conducted, however, and studies show that psychedelics are physiologically safe and do not lead to addiction. Studies conducted using psilocybin in a psychotherapeutic setting reveal that psychedelic drugs may assist with treating depression and alcohol addiction, and possibly also nicotine addiction.

My experience shows why the connection between LSD and messing up one's life is unproven. My life has been a colossal mess and I've never taken LSD.

I met a very nice person who had a 'Trip'. The next day he told me how he Actually Found God, and was able to Appreciate the little Beautiful Things that he had been Walking By and Never Noticing before. Also, he explained how much of a 'Better Person' he is as a result and a Super Feeling for the future as All the 'Closed Doors' had been Kicked Open. He seemed Really Calm and Happy with a Ton of Energy. How Nice is That???
Some people it DOES help. But that's really rare. My son got way worse and is just now coming out of a break down. LSD didn't help him at all!

The immediate aftermath of the trip shouldn't be an indicator of how it has affected the individual . Whether positive or negative. The true signs will appear over a few weeks/months depending on the individual.
Psychedelic’s definitely have potential to deal with mental health symptoms like anxiety and depression, I would like to try them again but it’s just so hard to source here
Psychedelics are the reason why i didn’t take my life when i was at my end. I was stripped of my ego and saw the beauty of life and interconnectivity and even though i still battle anxiety and depression, I’m doing better everyday and will never think in such a self destructive way again.

This experience gave me a lot of confidence about my self and my body. A bunch of bad thought / behavior patterns were broken. One of these was pretty bad OCD that made me wash my hands a lot. It gave me a lot of hope that things will be fine, this is the one thing that I heard throughout the trip: Everything is alright. The main reason for the trip was my severe depression and it definitely helped me (although it's not gone). Before all I could do was lay in bed. Now I am trying to rebuild my life one step at a time which wasn't possible before."

@@russellzauner Yeah no doubt. Same thing in other states and countries regarding weed. But with harder drugs and stronger weed it is more difficult to make a case for legalization and taxation. I'm all for it myself, i just doubt the those in power will allow it due to parts of the population becoming 'drop-outs' and 'noncontributors' to the nations economy. Like the Chinese opium addicts.
Just to add. Films like this are framed, as they are now, as educational to help save people and their health but it's really all about money.

You can learn things you didn't know already. You merely reflect on a previous experience through another point of view (easy when dosed) and consider the new information you obtain from that.
At 2 minutes 36 seconds that's Tommy Roe a rock and roll musician from the 1960s. He wrote "Sheila" in 1962 and "Dizzy" in 1969.
He did have his fair share of success writing and singing music. I guess he was used in this video to add some credibility to the dangers of drug use. 🎶🎶📀📀🎸🎸
Happy 80th to Noel Nosseck, director of this film. By the way the points made in this film are incorrect: 1. LSD does not cause chromosome damage, that was a myth spread in the '60s. 5:07 "The only real understanding you could gain would come from having a bummer and then analyzing it". WTF? This is reiterated later: that LSD doesn't "really give you understanding" of your problems. This is an extremely narrow view of what understanding actually is. By the way I don't advocate the use of acid or any other drugs; those that have used it say you don't need it for true understanding of the universe and existence. Eastern philosophy is the key.

If there is an answer, is that the alteration of the conscious mind is always there. You have in you're own brain the capacity to do self-search without anything of this kind, you have those substances in you're own body, and by breathing correctly you do not get addicted and not the list even healthier. Two great minds that advocated LSD were Dr. Timothy Leary, Phd in Psychology, a graduate fr Berkeley. And Dr. Richard Alpert, Phd. in Psychology. Both were banned from Harvard because colleagues thought their lectures promoted drug use.
They were both professors, they knew what they were doing. Leary became an author and wrote about projects held by students on psychedelic drugs. They did nothing illegal, but were ostracized by non ethical methods as professors.
Well, I'm not condoning mind altering drug use as much as I am condemning a corrupt education system. If it wasnt for our education system getting screwed up, those two would have never been professors. And the idea of sending your mind on a permanent serendipity search doesn't sound too promising in solving any issues.
