This anti-drug film from 1972 uses abstract and modernist animation styles and techniques to depict the effects of different drugs (both legal and illegal) on the human brain and body. Set to eerie music and inter-spliced with live action footage shot in and around Los Angeles, California, you’ll be shown unnerving and psychedelic imagery designed to make you think twice about abusing drugs. “Drugs and the Nervous System” was made by Spencer Peel, David Weidman, Selby Dale, Bina Grossblat, Lee Kent, Pieter Van Deusen, Robert Kaufman and Robert Churchill, and produced by Churchill Films.

Every description of every drug in this film is spot on. Right down to nicely advising paranoid Schizos and LSD. this is the education I got in 8th grade. It worked well for my generation. DARE failed, and now every other kid is prescribed speed or psych meds. Both give kids drug induced euphoria ala THX1138

I think Periscope Films restore & preserve the films, not make them (Somebody correct me if I'm wrong)
A good place to dig deeper if you enjoy these classics would be the Prelinger Archive. There are hundreds (if not thousands) of similar out-of-copyright films there made by many different production companies.

I remember seeing this film in the sixth grade, in the 1970-71 school year, so I know it had to be released around that time,not in 1972.

Idk why they call these "scare films" like besides for weed these old films hit the nail on the head, literally today in America the number one killer among young Americans is opioid overdose. Like literally every major city has started experimenting with having areas where they don't enforce drug laws (mass Ave in Boston, civic park in Denver ect) and it's not like everything was just all right and the problems disappeared when persecution seized, in fact it was the opposite. It created something almost equivalent to Brazil's favelas here in the United States

@@viennapalace Haven't lost anything. These doctors knew the dangers of smoking and alcoholism at this time and if you did your research you'd find documentaries just like this from the 70s and even decades before. It's just that today the relevant subject is drugs. Get your facts straight.
