cant wait to see what you guys do with the vehicles ... tho im not gona lie some more light vehicles for the marines, enemies, and player would be nice .... like say something akin to a APC or an mrap armed with either and auto GL or the twin linked HMG turret. would also make for more cool set pieces for mappers to play with.

But then Zoom Cringeternal came along and the developers decided it was a good idea to say that phrase with the serious face. Which is cringe. And you are cringe. Honestly, it's the first candidate to be cut in the (supposed) v23. Or maybe even the final version of v22. I mean, it's really funny and looks good, but it's just too funny for a kind of badass-serious mod like Brutal Doom. Imagine if the Predator flew away from Schwarzenegger's punches with the comical BOING sound in the movie. I mean, yeah, that would be pretty funny, but does it really fit? Same here. Don't get me wrong, I actually like that meatball spin, and it's really funny, but I just feel like it doesn't fit.

Doom PSX, Doom 64 and Doom 3 are real horror games, Doom 1 and 2 may look "funny" today because of the old technology, but I can assure you that not only were they very tense games with all that blood and gore that was unprecedented in gaming history, but also Adrian Carmack, who worked in a hospital before working in iD and saw a lot of gruesome bloody injuries, was inspired by them and tried to bring that body horror into the already demonic atmosphere of Doom. So yeah, all in all, Doom games are not funny at all. They never tried to be. Do not confuse Doom games with that colorful clown fest called Zoom Cringeternal. That game is hilariously funny, that's for sure. But it's not Doom.
Man, I've been following your work since 2014 I've loved how Brutal Doom has evolved over the years to this point. I never had the ability to financially support this whole project, and because of that I always felt a little bad for enjoying BD so much and not being able to help. But that has changed. Something I am VERY glad that you added was a toggle for boss monsters and evil marines. Some custom maps (like Whispers of Satan's level 32) are almost unplayable with the hundreds of evil marines running around (also a twin motherdemon surprise there too).

Kickass! Now we're talkin'! Them sprites look great, chaingun is easily my favorite, i love the new design, also i love that horde mode is gonna be a thing in V22, i played the invasion mode in Skulltag with one of the earlier versions of BD back when Skulltag was still active.

best mod ever made tbh. i remember playing through Brutal Doom so vividly that despite all the hours ive played the vanilla games, that remains the definitive DOOM experience in my mind.
Shortly after new years my PC had so much fun with fireworks he made some too. So yeah RiP, now I only have a Laptop that is okay for older games, which I will use until the Nvidia 5k series comes out, and I got some more money. I can't wait for V22 together with the improved performance it's a godsend for me right now. Thank you for all your hard work in creating by far the best mod for DOOM.

Wondering if there will be more killing animations with more details of entity's pieces of cracked open head by shotgun, so we can move from painting doom maps in red for 5 hours straight to 10 hours. New akimbo assault rifles sprites are pure banger btw.
I remember hearing about Brutal Doom when I was living abroad but didn't have any time to download it and play it. I since relocated back to the States and have been absolutely HOOKED on Brutal Doom; I didn't know what I was missing 😄! Thanks so much SGtMarkIV (and the rest of the team of course) for making this spectacular game! It brought back so many memories and gave me the same excitement and enjoyment as playing the original Doom on the hefty, cumbersome family HP sometime around 1994. This mod is simply brilliant. Thanks again!

This is looking great. Really looking forward to the release of the Gold version. Also, because it's now a USAS-12 instead of an AA-12, the Autoshotgun might benefit from the +1 in the chamber mechanic. Can't say no to an extra shell or two.
the links and cartridges that are discarded when firing the chaingun, so many triple A games have machineguns but none of them show cartridges or the links being expelled. I think it's a lovely (and overlooked) detail !
I thought the '9 shell in the shotgun' feature was already there in one of the v22 beta versions. Anyways, dad was super impressed with the progress. Keep up the great work!
The new weapon sprites are amazing, especially epic with the rocket magazine going more and more empty. You dont even see that on many new games. Impressive to see that on the doom engine.
Im loving how this is coming along. Thank you and your team for making the axe sprite smaller so it doesn't look like a sharpened door, and my view on the Chaingun jave changed and I like it now as I can imagine it held in either minigun or Rambo style. My only criticisms now are that the shotgun looks a little wide but I can look past that, the SSG looks kind of small now compared to the other weapons. And that Shotvolver cylinder and barrel look enormous compared to the shotgun and SSG.
Nice, man. You're doing stuff. I just hope that the still-existing addons will be updated to BDv22 someday, with new sprites/animations and their neural upscale pack.

This all looks fantastic! I particularly love the assault rifle(s), pistol, shotvolver and smg(s). So beautiful! Though, shame about the shotvolver, i think it swapping ammo was a cool gimmick - and i think making it a heavy pistol (using multiple regular pistol ammo per shot, instead of rare magnum ammo) maybe would give it a stronger niche? Lastly, isn't the plasmagun a bit too quiet? Anywho, loving the updates and dev diaries, cant wait to play with it! :)
Man, the thing i like the most on this mod, is how cool the sprite work already was, now, it is on another level, this and i always loved seeing what is possible to do with sprites for any kind of game, this is master class now, great work mate, you and the team, bravo!
My buddy told me about this mod when I was in middle school. Ever since then I’ve been playing doom and I’ve always come back to brutal doom every once in a while. I’m so happy to see that you updated brutal doom again. Now I gotta boot up brutal doom and try this new update.
Its nice to see that the mod has a more concrete direction. its fair to say a lot of people started knowing about doom modding from BD so its fair to offer it as a closer to vanilla mod and leave other mods like Project: Brutality to go hog-wild.
I used to keep up with brutal doom really closely, but haven’t as much in the past couple years as life developed more for me. Looking at how far it’s come since I used to play it is really interesting

Yeah I missed that too. It just feels to great to have that mode in the main game without having to load specific mods for that.

I liked it too, but I guess its just better to keep it more Vanilla friendly. I am moving most "non-Doom" ideas to Brutal Fate instead.

This all looks fantastic! I particularly love the assault rifle(s), pistol, shotvolver and smg(s). So beautiful! Though, shame about the shotvolver, i think it swapping ammo was a cool gimmick - and i think making it a heavy pistol (using multiple regular pistol ammo per shot, instead of rare magnum ammo) maybe would give it a stronger niche? Lastly, isn't the plasmagun a bit too quiet? Anywho, loving the updates and dev diaries, cant wait to play with it! :)
Man, the thing i like the most on this mod, is how cool the sprite work already was, now, it is on another level, this and i always loved seeing what is possible to do with sprites for any kind of game, this is master class now, great work mate, you and the team, bravo!
I'm consistently impressed at how much this mod has improved since the early days of initial versions I downloaded in high school. Bravo dude.

My buddy told me about this mod when I was in middle school. Ever since then I’ve been playing doom and I’ve always come back to brutal doom every once in a while. I’m so happy to see that you updated brutal doom again. Now I gotta boot up brutal doom and try this new update.

Its nice to see that the mod has a more concrete direction. its fair to say a lot of people started knowing about doom modding from BD so its fair to offer it as a closer to vanilla mod and leave other mods like Project: Brutality to go hog-wild.
I used to keep up with brutal doom really closely, but haven’t as much in the past couple years as life developed more for me. Looking at how far it’s come since I used to play it is really interesting

So awesome to see this mod still getting updated, making Doom a game that feels new after all these years, and a Horde mode!? As a massive enjoyer of horde modes (who was disappointed in Eternals "horde mode") this is awesome! Thanks for keeping THE Fps game fresher than ever

Very impressive new sprite work and animations. Excited to give v22 a download! In a strange sense v20/21 will be "my" Brutal Doom as that's when I discovered it, but I'm liking these changes. Keep up the good work! And still super stoked for Brutal Fate!
