- In this vlog, we leave the Foxton locks behind and have a peaceful countryside cruise on our Narrowboat, further down the Grand Union Canal and then up the Welford Arm.

Jo wrote a short book about her travels and how she met Michael.

We don't often check our our messages on UA-cam, if you want to contact us please either comment on a video or email us using the address listed above. We love hearing from everyone.
I am certain leaving Jo behind reduces the luster of any social evening. The care each of you show, one of you is ill or injured is heartwarming. God Bless you all.
Thank you! And yes everything is much shinier when she’s around. M
At the end of the Welford Arm was where our holidays in the 80's started. Black Prince narrowboats had a base there.
That's a nice stretch to have started on! M
Enjoyed - thank you.👍
Thanks for watching! J
Go down the Welford Arm, it has a great pub! We stop there in our campervan for the Crick Show :)
It is a very nice pub! M
Hi guys. well still catching up. Must say you are definitely getting into the filming when you watch one after the other you can definitely see it. And as for George are you teaching him how to scene steal, or is he a natural. As for Jo sorry you feel bad , just a silly tip you know those bathroom mirror cabinets. well I always thought that they were stupid no room for anything. well finally figured it out. they are just deep enough for all the stuff that cluttered the cabinets, ie, the Alka Seltzer Cold, the cold decongestant, asprin all the stuff that you would not need on a daily basis, if I open mine twice a year I'm amazed at what's in there. but when the headache and sniffing start I know that there's something in there to help and as I said it doesn't clutter the main cabinet's. just a thought. Take care and be safe. Treat for George.
George was a scene stealer from day one, I can assure you! Sadly our boat hasn't that bathroom mirror cabinets, just mirrors in picture frames stuck to a wall... instead we've got a cabinet near the kitchen stuffed with everything from medicines to industrial marine sealants. M
Finally caught up on all of your vlogs, super entertaining and informative. The British canal system is so interesting. Thanks for taking us along on your journey.
Thanks for coming along with us! M
She's got him well trained, does as told, you need to bow, no questions, just bow.
It's the key to a happy life! M
Hope Jo and George feel better soon ❤️🤕❤️
Happy to report they're both doing much better! M
I’m having and a catch up and can’t believe how many I missed! Enjoying them all. The start was funny with George! Thanks.
There is more to come, I’m a little behind with the editing. And with replying to comments. Thanks for your support as always! Jo
I thought I saw Michael helping out Jo with the locks. No I must be seeing things . Hi George .
It happens! Every once and awhile she decides driving is easier! M
I am still playing catch up on your VLOG's. I found that if I had a light at the rear (mobile phone torch) shinning along the roof that because I could see the roof it gave me a better perspective. Don't know if you have ventured to the Worcester and Birmingham canal yet. But Waste Hill Tunnel is an experience for you.
I'm still playing catch up with the edits. We have been on the Worcester and Birmingham Canal. Here is the playlist. ua-cam.com/play/PLt9UiadU1aXls3QBLwJTJU2fW8r-FnGpw.html
I don't remember the tunnel off hand.
Poor George! Love the Music :) Don't think we could get our widebeam through some of those locks!!
Afraid not... Foxton, Welfore, and Watford are all rather unfriendly to widebeams! M
LOL George at the beginning had me rolling!! I was wondering how long it was gonna take you to noticed him lol
He’s quite a scene stealer! M
There were glimpses of Orson Wellian movement of Michael going across the lock, like a scene crossover from The Third Man and Citizen Kane, ......all rather spooky. Amazing what you see thro the eyes of a viewer 2 glasses to the good of a cheeky little Montepulciano D'Abruzzo....my excuse and I'm sticking to it. Just watch it again.....I can hear the Harry Lime theme now.......good on yer you two, it's always a delight to watch hear and blooper appreciate. ......loving George and his fondness for all the genitalia, hey if we could we would don't knock it.....tabasco and beans.
Oh good god, yep, if I'd had a stogie, I'd have been old Unicron, devourer of worlds himself. Well that's an image I can never get back in the box, thanks!! Ahh well. I've been told Hemingway, Brian Blessed... even, horrifyingly, Val Kilmer... but Welles is a new one.
Rosebud.
Having the cabin lights on and the curtains open helps you see the sides of tunnels but I’ve found that a head torch works better. I’ve got one that zooms and has adjustable light levels.
I haven't tried a head torch yet, but I'll give that a go in the next one. Cheers! M
Ah George...scene-stealer again! Sorry you aren't feeling well Jo...hopefully much better now. Quite a scary tunnel, but well done on getting through it! Very enjoyable video...enjoy your time at that beautiful little village.
We did enjoy it! More tunnels coming up! M
Hahaha “I’m not walking 3 miles to see a bloody abbey”
Unless it's very extremely bloody, perhaps! M
Love seeing all those sheep!
Bah! Baaahh!! M
Love your boat name! Enjoying your videos thanks for sharing your journey :)
Thanks! And thanks for watching! M
Mike, she's not cranky, she's tired! (or sick-ish)
A little of all three, I think! M
Hope Jo is feeling a lot better and do you really have to get up and face a camera when you don't feel well?
Much better thank you! Jo
Did that tunnel have any ventilation stacks on it? Looked smoky. Maybe some small weatherproof LED's on either side of the rear cabin when your in a tunnel.
We passed you twice this week... once at crick and yesterday by braunston tunnel... you were probably out shopping....☺
If it were yesterday, I was traipsing around Northampton, getting my cinema fix in. Deadpool 2 and Solo aren't really Jo's thing! M
Great vlog again,my Border Collie used to have sore feet. Managed to find a great natural foot remedy called "mushers secret". Great name I buy mine off Amazon 60g size lasts ages. Just need to apply twice a day and is also good for helping to heal small cuts.
Oh, that's very good to know about, thank you! We've been treating it with Vaseline and bandaging it and it's healed up, but that sounds like it'd be a better choice. I'll get some ordered! M
Hi M&J :) Did you turn the inside cabin lights on when you went through the tunnel? That should light up the walls and give you some reference at the back of the boat.
We do, and they do help, but as our largest windows are at the front and only portholes at the back it's still quite dark at the rear. Which for me, and my rather higher than average noggin height, is a bit disconcerting. The nav lights certainly help, but the rear one is on the left, leaving my right hand side often in pitch darkness. But we've had some good recommendations for lights by a company called MPow that are fully waterproof, charge themselves using solar in the day, and have a nice diffuse light that works well in the tunnels. I hope to order one or two of those soon. M
Oh they sound like a good idea. I'll have a look at those :)
They look good, just happened to run into a fellow whose boat was beside us in the marina where we purchased her, and he's gotten them and recommended them very highly. He'd bought a few small rare earth magnets and epoxied them to the back so he could place them anywhere on the boat with ease, which seemed to work a treat. They're designed for sheds and whatnot, with a motion sensor mode that makes them good for a nighttime drunken approach to your own boat, I'm sure! M
Found them on the web. They do a few different models. They look good :)
Next time at a major market or a home supplies store. Pick up some of them battery powered closet lights and mount one on both sides of the stern Will provide light on stern for tunnels and winter
We got some and I had them on the roof, but that blinded me with basically just lighting up the fog and the diesel smoke from the guy in front of us. But I'll try them on the stern, thanks! M
Minimal List keep them low and out of eye line. More a flood of light than directional.
Big tunnel today, I'll give it a go! M
Don't fall for it! When your wife says "you can go if you want to", it's a test... Especially if she's "not feeling well"...
Liked the music, by the way!
It may be a test, but I've always been preternaturally good at tests! M
Short interruption :
Thank goodness that it's no 'smellovision'😂
A, sadly, never quite perfected technology. M
Hope Jo feels better soon. George has some kinda pixelation rash on the bottom half of him. You might want to get that looked at. I know your not Attenborough but for crying out loud. I just have a thing with pc these days. It's what a dog does and all men wish they could. Thanks again for a well done video.
So. So many joke. So not making them.
We wouldn't pixelate if it didn't make it funnier. I'll just leave it at that. M
Touche, as they say...didn't see that one coming. Unfortunately I have never one to leave it at that. It's true it's true you can ask either one of my x-wives. That's right, I'll be here all week, tip your waitresses its funny when they fall over I'm so sorry it just comes out. I don't have a editing system between my brain and what or where it comes out..Although I surely do enjoy your videos and am envious of your life. Thanks again for what you both contribute to this life. You are a stream of photons in an ever darkening world.
I like pumping light into darkness... the universe is full of the stuff, so it's going to take a while to fill, I'm afraid. :-) M
I can get the Hemingwa and the Blessed from previous vlogs......but thd Welford arm will always be Rosebud........
Now we just have to find the canal arm that's Transformers: The Movie. M
George wanted to stay with his Mum 'because '.....?
Didn't quite hear you!
All love, and best wishes, Claire, Sally, and Zora ( 2 older Goldies ), Berlin 😙 😙 😙 ✌ ✌ ✌
To be fair, I don't think we heard it either. He just wanted to not walk past the locks again, probably because he had to be tied up a lot. M
Do the bowing thing at the end of every video, it could be your very own new channel sign off routine. You both need to synchronize, hold hands and give it some flourish tho, like on the opening night of a Broadway play .. "Bravo !!"
Hah! Might have to try that one day. M
Nice vid. Shame about the backing music...;0)
Personally I like it, but not every tune holds universal appeal, that's for sure! M
Great to see the Welford stretch from the boat. We popped over to welford when we visited the crick boat show to see a wonderful lady who sells canal art from her boat pea green instagram kayscanalcraftyarts or Twitter @Kay_Canal_Art
A little plug for Kay as she is such a lovely lady
I think we may have seen her, will have to keep a look out for her work! M
Has George got enough Pringles?
Are there ever enough Pringles? M
oh george
Oh George indeed!
You need to bow 😂
Haha, I didn’t realise he was so obedient! Jo
🐶👀🙈😂👍🏻
👁👂🏻🐑
Jo you look terrible, you really do look poorly, we had a dose of lergy post Crick and it seemed a bit sexist as it hit Viv harder than me , so I had man flu she got non gender specific flu , otherwise known as a "cold plus" but went to her chest. Anyway get well soon. Oh George what a star nough said! Hope you enjoyed the pub Michael , now look after Jo and get a grip on the shopping front . As always stay safe ( and this time healthy maybe a chat on accessing medical services would be an idea as M is an expert on casualty units ) V&B
There's not a lot to access for the common lurgy, though it was nice to get to a pharmacy a couple days later and find some decongestants. Thankfully, it's cleared up for us both now! M
Minimal List being seriously old 🤔 we travel with a substantial medical pack both the prescribed keep us alive stuff plus anti hist cold remedy and stuff to stop and start compost loo use😵 but u r vastly experienced travellers So know all this. Anyway glad u r on the mend B&V
Our experience is more in the stop loo than start end of things... India. Will never, ever, forget India. ;-) M
music yes singing or whatever no
Sigh. It's vocals as an instrument, there are no lyrics. I rather like it, personally. ;-) M
