@@marvinpetersen5037 Let's say I've got very little motivation for Leah right now because of this. 🤣 So there will be lots of updates on this over the next few months.
Congrats on getting the 16v going!!...the sound of this car made me watch the whole video twice🤣🤣...Maybe she has some hidden powers after motor loosens up?
@@lowdl You're welcome man👏...The sound of it coming alive is somewhat worth the time/effort and money spent not to mention stress😂...Im excited to see this one unfold bro goodluck💪🙏🤝
Lovely build bro love the 16v set best motors to work with had a 16 set has well back in the day ran 2lt long block digi fan block bmw 328 pistons alot work was needed with re pocketing the pistons but it worked no throttles used the old school 45 Weber set up magic stuff and a uno 1100 distributor was the secret
This video put me such in a positive state. With my car going on the dyno tomorrow. Having just gone over everything, I'm making sure it's ready and so on. Cant wait to see the videos of this car flying around the track. Does this car have a name yet?
That great to hear. All the best for tomorrow. Hopefully it goes smoothly. 💪🏽 I can't wait to fly around the track with it. I'm going to do a track day asap just to shake it down even though the brakes probably won't last a session 🤣 And no, it doesn't have a name yet. Haven't gotten too attached.
Yirre yessus.... How i miss my 1.8 8v ITBeast Fox. I have a wagon like yours but 1.6 and it's a crossflow head.told my wife now when I have money again I'm slapping some ITB's on it just to get that sound lol.
You should do it to the wagon if you can. That would be epic. Just for the noise. A mild cam and itbs. You're making me want to do some stuff now. Haha.
Awesome figures, pitty about the dip in the graph at start of the power run. I see you have lots of engine movement when throttle is applied. If I may suggest, if you havent tried it before, use an old seatbelt and tie it around the front engine mount through the bolt. It will remove alot of movement without increasing cabin vibration when on throttle. Cant wait for 328i / 20v conversion :p. Take care.
That dip in the graph is typical of those 288 cams. The only way around it is VVT or something which these old motors don't have. The engine mount in the video was stock. It has been replaced with a solid mount. We just didn't get around to it before the dyno.
Nice man thought it would of been more with that head and you have the right stuff I remember Morgan made 163kw on pump fuel on jvs dyno after salmaan built the motor
The head is interesting, it's got very little port work but the combustion chamber was modified. So we didn't expect too much from it. There is probably some more in it if we revise it but for parts I had laying around, it's not bad. That motor Salmaan built for Morgan was a thing of beauty, can't even compare the two 😅 There are a few strong pump fuel 16v's that make over 150kw on that dyno but it's an art to get it there.
Only to get the pistons above deck. It was flush before. Don't quote me but I think the piston height 9a/ABF is the same, it's just the rod length is different.
@@lowdl 9a pistons sit about 2mm below deck at tdc. So the block needs to be decked to get the piston to sit flush with the top of the block to get a desired CR. This is as 9a is a short block.
I was going to ask why not 2.1 or 2.2 20valve NA, like 8V Performance builds...will be interesting to what power those motors make down here at the coast but i understand and respect the goal for the build, will be great to see what is required to go track racing
I wanted to build another 16v because I had so much parts for it. Thought it would be quick and easy without having to buy a lot of new things. Like I mentioned all out power was not the goal and as much as I want more, I don't need it right now. Going 2.1 was an option, I had both cranks in front of me and chose the 92.8mm stroke just for reliability. We'll see how things go in future, I might get carried away. 😂
It takes me right back as well. Hopefully this engine lasts longer. In the process of building this one we figured out why the other one died and fixed it so fingers crossed, we're good now.

That sound though😍 I'm soooo glad there were multiple pulls on the dyno though. Hearing those ITB's at full tilt is a serious eargasm!
Glad you enjoyed it. It sounds amazing in person. 😬
The core memory of your first 16v doing runs on the M5 making its rounds in my head. Clarkson would approve.
Back to where it all began. I'm so pumped. I still watch those old videos. Glad I get to make new memories with a NA 16v again. 😅

Nice one Mnr L, small bumper conversion on the 16v for the future perhaps ?
I've considered it but I'm not sure. Maybe I should, just to differentiate it a bit. Two of the same is a bit much. lol.
