- "My Unorthodox Life" star Julia Haart explained that when she was a practicing ultra-Orthodox Jew, she wasn't allowed to watch TV - but she secretly would catch episodes of Ellen's show. Now, as the star of her docu-series and a guest on the talk show, she shared how her visit is a full-circle moment. The CEO also described her life before leaving the community and announced a second season of the series on Netflix!

To all the Orthodox Jews and Jews in general we know you’re not unhappy and oppressed I love watching actual documentaries on living an orthodox fully kosher life ; people are joyful living happy lives wondering in the magic of life and the purpose and warmth of family life and the community i wish I was raised this way sometimes (I was raised by devout Christians we do have some similar life experiences)

I’m religious and I don’t feel even close to what she felt! It’s sad that because of her specific experience she includes the whole community… there’s so many women who are successful, clothes brands, photographers, makeup artists and the list doesn’t end!

I’m a religiously practicing Muslim and I didn’t like the way the show portrayed Jews, and Judaism as a whole. The only thing I am glad about is now Jews specially the orthodox community understand what we Muslims have to deal with as the media constantly portrays our religion as an “oppressive backwards religion”. In the show Julia made it look like women were second class citizens in Judaism, which I know is definitely is not the case. Look at how they make us Muslims look as “radicals and oppressors” which is definitely not true. My entire point Is I hope the Jewish community can understand that the media can portray any religious group as irrational, and to actually take time and meet Muslims and ask questions if you have any, instead of just listening to the hateful Islamaphobic media. All we want to do is live in peace, and live by the way of the Quran and the Sunnah of the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ. ☪️☝️.
she literally said at the start of her anecdote that her story does not represent all orthodox Jewish families.. it's her own personal experience, isn't she allowed to share that?

The show could've depicted Monsey in a better way, not all women experience what she did and the show could've demonstrated Judaism in a fairer light, with that being said, congratulations to her, I wish her all the best
Yeah, I'm from Monsey and I'm still Orthodox and religious and I love it. I think she experienced Judaism in an abusive way. Likely more due to how her parents educated her. Not how Judaism values teaches.

This lady is so desperate for attention and so money hungry. She was never trapped she lived a super relaxed Judaism lifestyle. She had to create this narrative to sell her story. Go to a Jewish community MANY women are entrepreneurs, owners of companies, Lawyers, and doctors etc.
Update: now she got divorced from the man that made her all her money and now that company she was the CEO off is sueing her …. Such an amazing life
Do you know her personally? She isn’t the first or the last to talk about having that experience. She also at the beginning mentioned that this is not every woman’s experience in Orthodox Judaism but it certainly was hers. It is what it is.
She never lived any aspect of the life she describes......if she did.....okay.....maybe shed deserve some sort of validation, but the main point is that all shes describing is built not on spun truths but COMPLETE PATHOLOGICAL LYING. And all who know her know this. SHE knows this. Thats the main issue! Name me a detail with which you sympathize with her and ill show you how its a fabricated lie......the only truth, and rightfully so and proud, is that most ortho Jews (and other people of intelligence besides) dont watch TV. Besides that......all lies!

Just because you dont have a similar experience doesn’t make hers wrong or invalid. She even said not all jewish communities or families have the extreme rules she had to go through.
How do you know she’s in need of therapy? Just because she is telling her story and you don’t like how it makes the community look? In her community that was the case and she doesn’t have to sugar coat things to make it look or sound pretty. It is what it is and some fundamental laws should change as they said, fundamentalism in any religion is not a good thing.
I watch family guy and laugh at jew jokes And I am a jew as well.
What I’m hearing from this is that the “lack of individual freedom” by the “fundamentalist laws in extreme” made her detest it. I’m not from her community but in general I think every human being just wants a sense of independence and autonomy in life. On the other hand, existence in society also calls for a sense of conformity because we can’t all be extremely individualistic too without consideration for what’s appropriate for the community to have a healthy society. Balance is always a tricky thing. But one thing I know, if too much power or control is placed on the few without consideration for equity, then the scales would be greatly imbalanced.

Is it just me or did she not answer Ellen’s question about what she does? Im asking cause I really wanna know. I know her title and all but we know that was given to her by her husband who is the real owner of the company.

ellen do yourself a favor and go visit monsey and see for yourself what a paradise it is to live a life without the filth of tv\hollywood , and have the feeling that god is always with you . go read books written by great rabbis what our purpose is here on this earth ... . all the other people who wrote here - go see for yourself what angelic beings exist in monsey and other places that are similar to monsey .

Can anyone confirm if she came from an ultra orthodox community? Cause a lot of people from Monsey are saying that Jewish community there is not an ultra orthodox one it’s post modern?
It's not mutually exclusive
There is a huge spectrum of Judaism in monsey. I grew up mainly in the same sect she was in but am now part of a more modern sect by my own choosing.
The community she came from is ultra orthodox, but the stories she tells about it are not true.

julia is a self hating jew thats trying to convince the world how horrible her previous life was, well what shes doing now to her children is horrible. How can a mother be so cruel and confuse kids like that, she pulled them out of a loving community and is bribing them with materialistic nonsense, these things dont make you happy in the long run. the life she had before was a meaningful life with quality and values i know many orthodox familys and theyre all very happy, no one is forced to do anything woman are not opressed at all many go to collage and have very successful buisnesses

I don't understand how so many Jewish people are offended or angry about what she is saying. Wasn't she ultra orthodox? She is talking about a really specific subsection of the religion.
Because apart from her lies, holes in her stories, and generally uneducated, ridiculous rationalizations and story lines--those of us who grew up in Monsey, or nearby, or in a similar Ultra Orthodox community (and the rest of us know someone who did), ALL KNOW SHE IS LYING! Not talking about her personal feelings, or "her truth", just THE TRUTH! And as I tell my 4 children (now adults)) all the time--you are entitled to your own opinions, but not your own facts. She keeps banging on about how she was educated....well, many of us sat on the board owf those schools (yes, women!!), and we KNOW what the curriculun is! It is NOT a secret sect (altho they do exist--hers is not one of them). And now that she will be in court for her divorce and embezzlement proceedings, I am sure they will ask her alllllll about it!!!
Many of us commenting are from that exact community and she's simply lying.

Julia is truly so inspirational and empowering. I love how she always shares her stories in such a respectful manner while exuding the energy of a confident woman boss at the same time. She's so unapologetically herself and I love that about her. So excited they got season 2, I'm looking forward to further getting to know her and her family!
She married out and totally ditched traditional Judaism and is encouraging her children to do so . The 400,000 debt that her and her ex husband had did not help their marriage. She lies that Her and Batsheva were not allowed to go to college. They chose not to. Her ex husband was a Wharton graduate and she tries to portray her self like she came from New Square or Kiryas Yoel
