Damn he actually did that to his childhood friend...
Lol
it was a bit hard to watch this episode of sao due to the unexpected gore
they didn't explain in the anime but in ln is plan is to kill all his mates and take alice and go to Australia and use the soul dive tech for himself and warp Alice to do his bidding
I feel like pointing out that the show didn't properly explain his reasoning which is actually rather critical to his character (imo)... Throughout his childhood Gabriel experimented on insects (and I think small animals) using his fathers tools and equipment while hiding this from his parents and Alicia. Alicia's family falls upon hard times (deep financial debt) and is going to move their lifestyle going to change drastically. The reason Gabriel killed Alicia is because he believed that this would cause her soul to "lose it's brilliance". Also, they removed a couple points in the light novel where he shows his charisma and leadership skills, to a lesser extent when figuring out what to do once the rath members had locked themselves in and them out, and to a greater extent during the throne room scenes. (the biggest one [imo at least] is when all of the leaders rush to the throne room and are in disarray, he promptly has them organize themselves into the rows we see them already in in the anime and then state their names, statuses, and duties.)
Childhood friends never win, even in SAO
“They would only be able to use ordinary citizens accounts”
Miller: time to do what’s known as a pro gamer move
I never found that joke funny, is that a reference of something?
Damn, childhood friends always get the wrong end of the shaft
:roll on drums:
I mean in this case either side would be bad ^^
I'm guessing the guy will have some sort of role in the future as he didn't really die and he is inside vectors mind but we will see
I wanna like, but this comment is in "nice" status. So take this as a like.
Hell they never get the shaft at all.. if you know what I mean ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°)
anime community: SAO is trash and they try so hard to be serious
war of underworld: ...you said what?
SAO is trash and they try so hard to be serious
1st arc of SAO is the only one that's not trash. This one is seemingly to redeem themselves.
Correction: "Minority group" of anime community lel. They just have louder mouth.
@@GoInGcRz This is one example of those loud minorities. SAO is a smashing success everywhere, and there's absolutely nothing you and your lousy whining can do to change that fact.
@@zazomy8629 I can honestly see this season fixing the fuck ups of prior ones
SAO literally stepping into “Dark Territory” this episode...
To think a guy who was obsessed with human souls and had a childhood friend named Alicia would be involved in heist concerning human souls and an AI named ALICE. This guy is like born to be raiding Ocean Turtle.
Oh yeah, RIP Shasta. At least he took out 3 chiefs in his Eight Inner Gate rampage.
People do stuff that interest them
Can't anyone figure out that the memories of him killing his childhood friend is just a backstory the game forced upon him as he dived into it? How else would he be able to feel or see her soul??
@@KaimArgonarEyyyy the dude is obviously crazy,so l doubt he actually saw her soul.
@@TheSpencermacdougall That's how the anime showed it! How the hell else am I supposed to interpret it then? And it's not like the anime showed him as crazy before he went into the game, it might as well be implanted memories that are affecting him. What else could the childhood friend illusion be when he was diving into the game?
@@KaimArgonarEyyyy then why did he do that to Sinon b4 he dived into the new technology ?
A literal soulless man and here I thought I seen it all
Damn Gabriel been insane since day 1 lol. I like how reasonable he was with people trying to overthrow him and invited it. Just sat there unfazed as that general was going berserk.
Shasta
Gabriel and the boys gonna take over the human empire
Notice how much detail are presented in Episode 1 of Alicizaiton: Sinon saying Subtilizer is the winner of BoB4 that no one came close to. In fact in LN, Subtilizer literally brought a knife to a gun fight and killed everyone.........
In Episode 2 Eugeo asked Kirito if he is the "Lost people from Vector", which are people who lost memories. A direct hint to Vector account's true ability, which ironically is what Subtilizer enjoyed.
Also a fun fact, this part of the story in WN came out on 2007, the same year NSA launched the infamous PRISM program. The submarine that Gabriel Miller and his team took to Ocean Turtle according to WN is US Navy's special mission submarine SSN-21 Seawolf, which actually transferred to its current assignment on 22 July 2007.
Can we also point the fact that people start wielding light sabers after Kirito won BoB only to screw it up for themselves? That bit in the LN is funny for me.
@@xian3571 That was mentioned in the Alternative Gun Gale Online LNs. It was funny. Shirley's team killed a whole squad of guys who were only using lightsabers lol

Oh yeah the Dark Knights suffered a Horror Movie Character fate.
This guy gets it. I 100% agree. I see people complaining that it doesnt fit in Sao as it isnt a dark themed anime. Which I understand. I like the transition though. Its a nice change of pace.

To further emphasize the whole thing with putting passwords on the Dark Territory, it was stated in Alicization season 1 that they made Underworld as an experiment as a whole, the fact that they were going to be attacked was something that they never thought would happen, I'm anime only, and that's basically the impressions I'm getting
Plus the fact that it was being defended by the _Asahi_ destroyer. In real life, that's the most advanced ship Japan has created and is literally a one-ship fleet on its own. The _Asahi_ is basically the John Wick of the Japanese Maritime Self-Defense Force, it was designed to destroy entire squadrons of submarines without any support. I keep up with navy developments in real life (as well as air force and firearms procurements) and I was *floored* when the show mentioned the _JS Asahi_ was the Ocean Turtle's defender.

Nice review man! It's great to have you back discussing about SAO. Shasta's attack was rather unique, it was an evolution of the incarnation system. That attack was not meant to affect the HP of the person but his fluctlight, that was the reason he could kill both leaders of the Goblins along with Fu Za (he even cut the Witch's leg) despite them being on the same level than him. In fact, Gabriel could have been killed in normal circumstances despite having a God account and a humongous amount of HP, luckily for him, since he is way too damaged, he no longer have neither will to live nor fear to die and Shasta's attack needed to connect his blood thirst with one of those two feelings in order to work. That is well explained in the light novel (Volume 15 Chapter 17) and I think A-1 Pictures failed in portraying that part properly. Of course, Gabriel, Lipia, Shasta and Alicia are more fleshed out in the novels, but I understand the animation couldn't include all the details regarding their backstories
Oh poor Chibi. You have no idea what’s coming...
I'm surprised they didn't put the explicit content advice, as they did before in the last season. These scenes are really shocking and unexpected. I'm thrilled to know what this villain is going to do to the main good guys if he encounters them.
Kinda... the other one was mainly because of the whole rape thing. Death was normal for SAO just that last scene from the last scene was kinda explicit.
I absolutely loved the most recent episode. I saw it this morning and I have to say that it was amazing how they showed Gabriel's thought process. I am excited to see where they take him now.
The guy has so many traiits of "classic" yoshikage kira that is sweet to watch
I know Chibi heard of Beastars but I can't wait to watch his reviews about it
Gabriel can't be killed by the specific attack the dark knight used, because, that attack is out of the bounds of the world's rules. It is not programmed to exist like Kirito's abilities, it is something created by exceptionally strong will for something. And in this instance, the dark knight's last strike was created by the will of "this strike would kill whatever it hits", and also the man had strong enough will to make this sort of attack come to existence. The attack he swung out would kill even Kirito if he got hit by it. Or anyone else. Atleast it would kill the mind. But what happened to Gabriel is that Gabriel doesn't recognize the meaning of life and death, so the attack that would make one's fluclight go from "alive" to "dead" doesn't function correctly on him, given that he doesn't have these two aspects installed. Think of it like a program, you want it to print "hello world", so you typed print ("hello world") but the program doesn't understand any command that is not 1s and 0s. Naturally it wouldn't function.
For those who has also watched/read accel world, the concept of those "will abilities" would be more well established there. Canonly, Accel world happened after the series of SAO stories, and I don't want to spoil anything so just go read Accel world if you want to know more about what the dark knight actually did by the end of this episode. Or just go read the SAO novel.
wait accel world is connected to sao?

When they killed the two Dark Knights, it took me back to Overlord. made some awesome characters, gave us a connection with them, made us love them, then killed them right after.... why they do this!!???
Am I the only one that thought that young Gabriel looks a lot like Eugeo?
Nope
When the show first came on I did
Not the only one at all.
Yes, there's more characterization for Shasta and Lipia in the LN. Unfortunately, they were in an untenable situation; they knew what Vector/Gabriel desired would be disastrous, but at the same time, they knew they'd be unable to actually do anything under his nose while he was still around.
To put a finer point on it, both the Dark Knights and Integrity Knights have a very limited number of flying dragons available to them, so for instance, taking one to go AWOL isn't going to happen.
Also, while there are plenty of "bad" individuals in the Dark Territory, rather fewer of them are truly "evil". There is logic, even if primitive in some cases, for why the DT residents act as they do. Much of it has to do with internal politics and the way the environment of Underworld itself was set up.
In a round-a-bout way, I'm trying to say that there are still definite possibilities for dialogue between the two sides, absent Vector of course.
Shasta couldn't touch Gabriel because Shasta's Incarnation was that of killing, murder, of death, but Gabriel lacks even a concern for his own self-preservation; so Shasta's Incarnation encountered nothing within Gabriel's FluctLight that it could attack. It has nothing to do with Gabriel's real body being outside of Underworld.
The essence absorbtion thing is the unique skill of the Vector Account, the other god accounts also have their own unique skills. The Memory absorbtion thing isnt limited to living fluctlights, any object with a Memory, Vector can absorb.
Statia - Terrain manipulation
Solus - Flight
Terraria - Unlimited Life regen.
Vector - Memory absorbtion
In this case, Gabriel Miller is a perfect fit for Vector, the Vector Account literally just absorbed all the System Memory that the Dark Knight tried to Overload his Fluctlight with
But like in real life how did it work?
They FINALLY gave a villain some backstory & they did it perfectly?!
i mean yeah he got more backstory than your stock variety evil-for-evil's-sake villain but it wasn't a masterpiece. we got 2 short scenes of him wondering where the soul is and mutilating a bugs and friend's head to find out. doesn't really explain how he got twisted, just that he was twisted when he was young too. it felt less like a backstory for character development and more like an explanation to justify him being able to sell the dark lord persona convincingly. like the writers are trying to preserve our immersion by having him not be a level headed operative acting like a dark lord in vr, but instead have him essentially be a dark lord on the inside already.
More characters from the dark territory will become like the dark knights later on dw

What Gabriel did in the episode was some of the most horrifying moments in SAO so far. Lipia didn't deserve to go out that way and her fiance was about to become a monster after he saw what happened.
This episode sent chills down my spine
Sao been dark asf don’t forget we almost seen 2 girls get raped last season
Damn I’ve been waiting for this review
Damn, never thought I’d see this from SAO. I’m impressed they crippled Kirito and are giving all these other characters a chance to shine
I've never disliked an episode of SAO, but that was a little brutal for me.
Still setting set, guy needs to die, no redemption
I agree with you on the scientist guy not being portrayed correctly. I watched that scene and thought he must be the dumbest smart person in the history of SAO, but the way you explained it through the manga makes him seem much more competent.
In case you guys are wondering about what Shasta the Dark Knight Commander did in the end.
To put it super simply, you can say he used Incarnation on himself along with his Sword's Release Recollection which had the ability of directly attacking fluctlights.
As a result, he was sending some kind of "self-destructing" emotional attack to everyone he hit, their fluctlight get scared and imprinted by his "self destructing emotion" and die.
But as for Gabriel/Vector, he is so fucked up in brain he can't even understand any emotion or fear, his soul is like a void, so Shasta's attack had no effect on him, if Gabriel was actually fearing his life and felt a lot of emotion from Shasta's attack, his fluctlight would self-destruct and he would become like Kirito or die.
I’ve been waiting for your upload
Honestly, which SAO villain isn't a psychopath....
Evelye This one finally had backstory though & showed how insane he really is
Evelye and at least he isn’t rapist this time, he just likes to kill people and eat their souls
@@johnnyassflat9335 To be fair there were only 3 rapist villains in sao loool (Suguo, Sinon's friend, Rios/Humburt) None rapist sao villains (Kayaba, Death Gun, Shigumura, Queenilla, Miller, Vassago if you wanna count him too) so technically there's a balance xD but i'm glad we got a truly complex unique to sao villain Miller is just insane
Gabe is the darkest psychopathic character ever in the series and the season was so darker than the rest I guarantee it.
Chibi: This is the darkest episode of of SAO ever.
Tiese, Ronye, & those bastard senpais from episode 10 of Alicization: Am I a JOKE to you?!
This isn't even the darkest scene in this arc.
It stopped being dark when you have a few good seconds of Raios leaping onto the bed with his arms stretched out like a flying squirrel

Back then, I complain about SAO not having interesting villains, they are always short-tempered and petty to the core. But this Isekai Overlord is damn interesting, he is very similar to the main character of the movie "Perfume: The Story of Murderer 2006". And it gives me the chills to the spine. I don't like Psychopaths or bad people but this guy is making the show interesting enough to keep me watching.
I've never been sickened by a piece of media but this was just outright unsettling. I felt completely fucking sick in my stomach when I realized he killed that girl.
sorry to ask but where are your review of ep 3-5-6? Love your vids :).
maybe leaving the Pontifex alone would have not been such a bad idea lol. at least she would have been able to deal with this threat pretty easily. Quinella wasn't good by any definition of the word but at least she had a reason for what she was trying to do not just kill people to get a boner.
I want to know how he got away with killing that girl as a kid.
he's rich, she's poor, so his Daddy had everything buried. it *does* happen, and not just in Japan.
Was her social status in the Manga? There was no indication in the anime.
@@MasonC2K well, if the fact that her killer manages to walk away without any hint of repercussions isn't enough of a clue as to their different social status, I don't know what is.

Stayed away from sao for a long time.. until i heard about this from a friend.. damn the underworld arc was really good
Hmm the storyline is like the ordinal scale where the villain trying to make ai to become alive.
Hmm....Interesting!
His punishment is literally living on earth he just wanna go home to heavens
Alicia is actually Alice in spanish
Or maybe it's specifically because he's on a god account and doesn't have any numeric values keeping him alive. He's just... alive without numbers.
In the light novel it was said that his life was close to 0 but Shasta’s incarnation was filled with Murderous intent that could make ones soul get destroyed if they were scared for their life. Shasta never got the 3 chief life to 0 but destroyed their fluctlights instead but since Gabriel don’t care about his life his fluctlight did not get hit and Shasta could not keep up his incarceration long enough to kill him
Now you know the glimpse of the LN reader suffer (although LN are more in details) and many more are coming.
I just watched the episode and jesus fuck I was shocked. I kinda knew he was gonna do something to his friend, but not stab her in the ear damn.... Great season so far btw!
Hold up. I won't allow you to pass that off as 'complex dark writing'. The writers have a knack for introducing a token cliché psycho every odd series of SAO. This was the last thing this series needed: another one dimensional caricature. What this season needs is a villain who opposed the pontifex and her methods, but was forced to do so through questionable means, due to the lack of resources in comparison to her unlimited spams.
Ah shit here we go again ....
Is no one going to talk about the fantastic animation in this episode?!
Yup its getting "DARK" and even Fell Asleep watching after a great opening ep. 1-2 courtesy of Alice!
Lets just say that's there is more death in this episode than your typical SAO episode...

I am really enjoying all the musician lookalike themed villains we've been getting lately. SAO has a david bowie as the enemy although Araki did it first and we get Michael Jackson. I hope this trend keeps going.
What happened to these reviews? I just stumbled across your channel bc of this video and would be interested in seeing more of this content as a Ln reader. I hope you get back to me.

I really thought Gabriel was Eugeo and Alicia was Alice :/
Fucking knew the last episode's death flag would strike true. Just didn't know it would be this soon, and as a double whammy at that. Damn this episode left a bad taste in my mouth.
Nice 👍🏻
In the light novel the Underworld arc was pretty dark. So I'm not really surprised about it. I'm more surprised about the fact that they decided to keep the dark element when making the anime itself.
Vinland Saga my boy
I feel like SAO holds a lot of great promise... it brings the viewers/readers an "escape" and better yet, an escape to "another world/reality" where they can be something other than themselves. But I seriously hate lazy writing.
The best villains are the three-dimensional characters that are well-developed, carry personalities, and aren't written just for the sake of being evil. Istg EVERY single antagonist (aside from Kayaba Akihiko) are just... terrible. There's no depth. There's really no motive. Nothing that concerns anything else but the need to *dominate* and it's ridiculous.
The way they showed Alicia's death was so disturbing that I stopped watching right away just to read up and see if it would get any worse than that. I have witnessed a lot of things before... and I'm a survivor of violent crime myself, but the way the anime depicted this scene was horrendous. Yes, the artists are amazing... and their work is tremendous in the way that it can portray Gabriel's character.. but seriously, the author of this series needs to do a complete 180 because at this point, I feel like there's nothing he can do to redeem his bad writing.
Everyone's issue was that "Kirito was too overpowered" so he literally did a 180 and made his character remain in a vegetative state... Like... seriously lmfao. What the actual f***? There are A MILLION things that could've happened... Like Asuna getting gravely injured by some accident... and making Kirito realize he wasn't "invincible" so he'd actually start training and have something to overcome. So... much other incidents instead of just "having his ego stripped from his core".
Then they just put another psychopath (and albeit, a worse one than the others we've gotten- the brothers in GGO and that other guy who's so irrelevant that nobody can ever remember).
Everything in your video 100000% hits everything right on the head. I don't understand why someone would create a fictional world like this and just destroy it with lazy writing. Honestly, it's a waste. I feel like at this point... I'm just going to watch for the sake of knowing how Alice, Sinon, Asuna, and Kirito's story will end.
I swear to God, this guy literally always voices villains.
He's so good at it.

Pls no more psychopath villains in sao. For once a interesting villain in sao(beside maybe Akihiko Kayaba in first part of sao) and they had to ruin it.
The villains have no character and no motivation ( why did you kill ? Bc psychopath) .
